This is apparently going for adds on January 29th off a soundtrack to some movie.
I'm really surprised Rob is going for another add, I'm guessing that the movie is paying for a music video ad hoping that this song will create album sales. My concern is that Hot AC may be tiring of Rob considering he's been on the charts with a Top 10 Hot AC hit since about two years ago, not to mention, Matchbox still has a handful of recurrents.
Either way, I'm excited to hear this.

Yeah, I was a bit surprised they were releasing this to radio. I had heard he was doing something for the Disney movie, but didn't really expect it to be on the radio. My DJ said he was going to play this sometime this week. Haven't heard it yet. He said he's heard it and "it rocks". But Rob described it as a cross between Jack Johnson & Peter Gabriel.
Just learned that VH1 is adding the live video of Streetcorner Symphony to their playlist next week. These two songs are going to be bumping into each other.

Rob Thomas' marketing team are complete morons, why would they put two videos against each other. I to this day will never understand what happened with Lonely No More and how it charted, as well as Ever The Same and the lack of promotion it got.

Doubt that would ever happen. If he has managed weeks and weeks at No. 1 - I forgot the figure... was it 33% of the time since 1998? - and has managed to be in the Top 10 for, like, two years despite all the recurrents, I don't think Hot AC radio will tire of him. "Ever The Same" probably got little promotion because they felt the extra promotion wasn't required to sell the album.

I think there's still plenty of room for a new Rob song on HotAC. I mean how often do you hear Kelly Clarkson or Nickleback. If they can play them ad naseum, there's room for new Rob. I'm just excited that we get a new song this year. I can't wait to hear it.

The two singles are hardly going head to head anyway; "Streetcorner Symphony" is just completing its nineteenth week on the Hot AC chart. On the video front, it's true the video for "Streetcorner Symphony" is all-new, but I also doubt that's really going to collide significantly with the video for "Little Wonders". Noah, I agree with you about the video for SS. I think it will probably just get a modest amount of plays on VH1. I'm still surprised they are going to play it (well we HOPE since we haven't actually seen it yet). Anyway, I think the SS video will just be to get Rob "out there" again visually and not just a on the radio. I expect will see the video for Little Wonders in late March when the movie comes out. This is assuming that there will be a video for Little Wonders.
Also, it looks like SS has peaked on HotAC. I read on Rob's board that WPLJ in NYC (a big supporter of Rob's) already has Little Wonders and has announced it will be playing it in the next week or so. If WPLJ has the song, I'm sure many of the large market HotAC stations do as well.

According to FMBQ, the video for SS is only going to get a few spins in its first week. I think it's being released just to get Rob Thomas back on television before his new single is released.

This song was showcased on an LA station yesterday. I absolutely love it. It's Rob but at the same time it's a new sound for him. I really don't get the Jack Johnson-Peter Gabriel comparison that Rob made. I think it's very U2ish (one of their more mellow tunes) with better vocals than Bono's last few songs.
This sounds so much different than SS that they could almost be played back-to-back on a station without any problems. ;) There's a couple of links on Rob's message board if you want to listen.
This should get to number #1 here when the promo for the Disney movie gets in gear in late March and the video comes out. I said 'should.' We'll see what happens.
I need to listen a few more times but probably my favorite Rob written song to date. It's not angsty so if that's what you want from Rob you won't find it here.

I can just imagine the typical cheesy montage involving the hero / heroine off the disney film that this is going to be playing over! Big fan of matchbox 20 & Rob so hope this grows on me

This is typical Rob Thomas. A very solid song -- probably top 10 on hot AC if they give it decent promo. I don't get the Jack Johnson comparison at all.

This is great. I like it more than all of the singles from "...Something To Be" with the exception of "Ever The Same".
Very U2-esque indeed, with the familiar chiming, enchanting opening riffs and effects nostalgic of something along the lines of "Where The Streets Have No Name".
Absolutely disagree with that Jack Johnson comparison, but this does rock, even if not in an edgier or more electric way.
Rob Thomas could very well remain all over the radio in 2007 as well. He also penned a new song for Taylor Hicks titled "Dream Myself Awake", which is very likely to become a single at some point, and while I don't see Hicks becoming a big artist in terms of airplay just like Fantasia or Ruben Studdard, he still has the name recognition and could deliever iTunes momentum from sonething like that.
Sincerely, Noah Eaton

I'm really liking this song. Find myself humming it a lot. I'm curious to know who is playing the instruments on this. It seems like a perfect Disney song. And it is a little angsty with a big dollop of hope added in. I wonder if it is in the movie or just played at the end as the credits roll. My only worry is the curse of the Disney song that affected Counting Crows. One Disney hit with Accidentally in Love and the band faded away. Maybe it just wasn't cool enough to have a "kid" song out there.
Anyone know other artists who performed songs in Disney cartoons? I'm curious to know the history and how they fared on the radio.

Three problems with your Counting Crows theory:
1.) Shrek was not a Disney movie 2.) It's not like the Counting Crows were exactly burning up the airwaives in the time immediately preceding 3.) Counting Crows haven't released a studio album since Shrek II's release.

The Counting Crows never faded away because of that song; they simply haven't released a studio album since then, which 2002's "Hard Candy" was their most recent full-length album of new material and "Accidentally In Love" was a single released in 2004. Therefore, I don't believe it's fair to say they "faded away" because of that single, especially considering they continue to draw strong crowds in concert and all of their studio albums to date have received RIAA certifications. Wow. This is one of Rob's most powerful singles. I really enjoyed Ever The Same, but this is much better. I believe this will at least have as much success as his past singles but certainly deserves to go #1 at HOT AC and at least Top 20 at POP. Very impressive non-album single.

I'm not sure where this will peak airplay-wise, but I think this should likely out-peak Rob's past three singles with a major promotional iTunes push, just like Avril Lavigne has benefitted from her contribution to "Eragon". "Eragon" was actually a major box-office flop, yet "Keep Holding On" has performed decently as a single. "Meet The Robinsons" in contrast is a computer-animated film that appears to have a moderate amount of hype surrounding it, especially in that Walt Disney has a good track record with computer-animated films. I think this will be Rob's biggest hit since "Lonely No More" on the Billboard Hot 100 with iTunes success, but the airplay charts are a bigger question; whether this is actually going to be pushed in earnest to CHR/Pop radio or if it will be neglected, and to what extent this single will be pushed. Sincerely, Noah Eaton

I think the guitar work on this song is very reminiscent of "All That You Can't Leave Behind" U2. Like others, I don't hear the Jack Johnson similarity at all. Not really hearing the Peter Gabriel similarity, either. I think there's a bit of the midtempo Nickelclone power ballad vibe going on, but I much, MUCH prefer this to any Nickelback song, and have no problem with the familiar aspect of the song driving more airplay for it.
"Little Wonders" is pretty. I'm not a huge fan of Rob Thomas' phrasing, and I don't like the work done on his vocals, but I think the song overcomes that. As usual, I think some of the lyrics are a little clunky...but still, it is probably my favorite Rob Thomas single not named "Ever the Same." I'm rooting for this to do well, and think it could go #1 on Hot AC and having a lasting #1 run on AC. I'm not so sure about the Top-40 format; given current trends, it could probably crack the top-20 but not the top-10. I wouldn't be upset if it did crack the Top-40 top-10, though.

450+ bullet. This song is doing great. Now, the question will be when it reaches the top 5 will some of the more resistant Rob Thomas HotAC stations pick it up. One pretty big station that comes to mind is 101.9 WKRQ in Cincinnati. I listen to this station several times a year while traveling on I-75. It does play Rob but I don't think in very high rotation. This station is big on PCD, JT, Rascal Flatts (go figure), and the rock bands (Hinder, NB, Daughtry).

I think this song could go all the way on HAC and AC and maybe, with good promotion, Top 20 on CHR/Pop. But I heard from a PD friend of mine in Orlando that Thomas' mom died suddenly last week so I'm not sure how much radio promo he'll be doing the next few weeks. It does make the song even that much more meaningful, though. My condolences to his family.

That's sad about his mother. It's weird that on his and MB20's message boards there were a few posts about it by brand new members and then people expressing their shock and extending their condolences. But the threads were deleted on both boards by the administrators, which is very rare. Some people think it was all a hoax, but others believe it is true. So you heard about it too?

I heard that the NYC station WPLJ made a nice comment about Rob and played his song "3 AM" in tribute to his Mom. How sweet. The DJ's said something about being friends with a lot of artists, but that Rob was special to them. For those who don't know, the song 3 AM was written about his Mom. Very sad since she was only 50 something. :(

Found this online. It's a documentary that's being debuted at the Nashville Film Festival next month. Hope we get a chance to see it! Thought I'd post it here since any Rob fans are posting here.
MY SECRET RECORD or How I Learned to Stop Worrying & Love the Biz traces the creative process and aggressive marketing campaign of Rob Thomas’s Billboard history making solo debut, Something to Be. Featuring a cast of superstars and CEOs, we are given extraordinary access into the world that manufactures rock stars and hits for mass consumption. The film features an incredible cast of musicians and industry “A” listers including: Carlos Santana, Alicia Keys, John Mayer, Jeff Trott, Robert Randolph, Clive Davis, Lyor Cohen and Matt Serletic.

I'm so sorry to read about Rob's mom. It's very hard to lose a parent suddenly.
That documentary sounds very interesting. I'd love to see it.
I didn't know 3AM was about his mom. I'm off to listen to that song now with that in mind.

Top 5 for year at this format, no doubt. This will remain in Top 10 until at least July, especially with no singles coming afterwards for Rob.
