I posted this in the MB20 "retrospective album post" but there were two blogs sightings that MB20 will be in the studio for the month of June (now) in LA recording 4 new tracks for that album with Steve Lillywhite (U2, DMB, and others). I hope this is true and that they are trying something different with their sound. Not that the old sound was bad...I loved it but sometimes shaking things up in the studio is a good thing. To date everything they have done has been produced by Matt Serletic.

So does that mean they'll be releasing a new single in like August or September?

I've often said they need to release a great new rock song under a new name and watch the radio lemmings wet themselves all over the place to play it and then freak out when they reveal it's really Matchbox 20. Well, MB20 could do what Stevie Wonder did in the '60s - record a song & release it under their name spelled backwards. Stevie released a song called "Alfie" under the name Eivets Rednow. The problem was that it did so poorly because nobody knew who Eivets Rednow was. The same might hold true if a new song would be released by Xobhctam 02 .

"Disease" sounded exactly like "Smooth" - Not sure how "Bright Lights" could be considered a "rocker" - I still think if MB20 puts out a new CD with edgy, ORIGINAL sounding music, they could move back in on Top 40 and even maybe Alternative - when "Push," "3 A.M," and "Bent" all came out, there was nothing else that sounded anything like them

"Little Wonders" is Rob's 2nd-best hit to date - right behind "Lonely No More". Just my opinion.

You know what is funny? Most people don't like Rob Thomas OR MB20 at all, yet tons of artists have the highest respect for him, as he actually writes music with/for them. I think that's kind of weird, and then people find out who wrote a certain song and it's the "O MY GOD, Rob Thomas"? reaction! That's what happened when people realized Rob wrote Smooth...they were shocked. He may write some very shallow, sappy songs, but hey..he's been around 10 years now? Can't be doing that bad!

I love this song, but I don't think it'll be up for an Oscar b/c it received such limited airplay on only a select few mainstream Top 40 stations (including Q100 Atlanta) - unless there's no competition

Quite a few Oscar-nominated songs over the years have gotten little airplay. Even some Grammy winners in the major categories were virtually unheard on pop radio.
"Little Wonders" has some advantage because it has done pretty well on Hot AC - although I really wish it would have gone top 3. Also, it's picking up some steam at regular AC.

Go Q100/Atlanta (Top 40) putting this song into heavy rotation (the station still plays plenty of R&B hits also) - this is what more Top 40 stations should have done!

Anyone else's stations beginning to put "Ever the Same" in higher rotation? WINC has been playing it recently as a substitute for the burned-out "Little Wonders" (not complaining- it's my favorite song).
They still have "Little Wonders" as the song by Rob Thomas in highest rotation of course, they just play this more now. I think they chose this because it's not too "recent" like "Streetcorner Symphony" is, but it's not "old" like the first two singles from his solo album are.

Yeah - WSTR (Top 40 Atlanta) is playing "Ever The Same" big time and they didn't play "Little Wonders" - Q100 (Top 40 Atlanta) is also playing "Ever The Same" a lot, and they still also play "Little Wonders" Also noticed (a little off topic) that lots of stations are bringing back "Over My Head (Cable Car)" as "How To Save A Life" has burned out more

Good to see stations playing that again (about 5 months ago- I heard it the least of any of his 5 solo hits, and the pass 2 weeks or so I've heard it almost as much as "Little Wonders"). :) Yeah man WINC never really got that into "Look After You", but they did still spin "Over My Head" a lot untill "All at Once" came out. They've steadily played "How to Save a Life" the entire time (basically for a year now), however. WRQX had "Look After You" at #1 on thier station at one point, though.
