They played "Blister In The Sun"? :o WOW! I was really surprised when I heard Casey play this; and I was even more shocked when he said it was one of the most listened-to songs 24 years ago in 1983. ??? :o That's b.s.! "Blister" never even made the Hot 100. It didn't even have any impact on the album rock circuit. Where did AT20 come up with this so-called "fact" that it was a popular song in '83? Popular among the underground crowd maybe.

Unfortunately, this sort of thing is very common now. It used to be that when Casey played older songs, he would say they were a hit "XX years ago this week" and that would be a factual claim.
Eventually, he started doing this without any regard to whether the words "this week" were accurate, and finally he stopped using those words altogether.
I'd say it's all because the average listener doesn't really care when a song was originally popular, or how well it performed on the charts. Only a small group of us chart watchers even catch things like that, so to them it's not worth trying to be accurate.
That's my take on it, anyway. Maybe I'm way off.

Maybe. However, the average non-chart-watching person who listened to the radio in 1983 never heard "Blister in the Sun". I can honestly say that, as much of a chart watcher as I've been for over 25 years, I never heard this song in the '80s, and never even heard of the Violent Femmes until about 2001. In a way, it's a novelty song somewhat like "Shaving Cream" - never reached many listeners in its original release, but became more well-known many years later. Both songs were a little risque in their time too, so that might also have something to do with it.

Has AT20 ever played Blister In The Sun as an extra before? I was just excited to hear it. I also enjoyed One Night In Bangkok, The Reflex, and Walking on Sunshine.
You've gotta admit, AT20 is still the only show that is truly refreshing and enjoyable to listen to week in and week out. Kudos to Casey and staff!!

I hope Casey's still hosting this show another 20 or 30 years from now!

And remember when he used to say "the #1 song X years ago was..." and then said something about counting down to this week's #1?
