He's No Loose Player! As is so often the case, it was the triple A community that recognized the organic and original talent of Willy Porter early on. Certainly, it was his guitar prowess and likable personality that attracted us at first, but, over the past 15 years, we have also seen Porter grow tremendously as a singer and a songwriter.
In December 2005, Porter formed his own Weasel label, and the first release for it is "Available Light." Produced by Porter and Dave Alder, the project reveals his unique skill at taming his guitar flamboyance just enough to serve the songs and -- with each passing album -- Porter's ever-stronger vocals. "Available Light" is also a band album in every respect, featuring Alder on keys, Steve Kleiber on bass and Dave Schoepke on drums.
Porter is gearing up for another track from the project called "Loose Gravel," which deserves your attention. He will be backing it up with dates booked throughout the spring and early summer.
