An Enduring Talent Joan Armatrading has been known as a thoughtful and inspired singer-songwriter for over 30 years. She has released 18 albums, been nominated multiple times for Brit Awards and Grammys, received the prestigious Ivor Novello Award for Outstanding Contemporary Song Collection and been polled as one of the most influential women in rock. Armatrading has even received the MBE from the Queen of England.
Further, she wrote a song and performed it for Nelson Mandela on his 70th birthday at Wembley Stadium in 2000; she is a Patron of the Peace University in Vienna; she has been given the key to Sydney; and she recently became a patron of Ukuza, which helps raise the cultural profile of South Africa.
But what most people don’t realize is that Armatrading is also an amazing guitar player. And that becomes very clear on her new album "Into the Blues," which features "Woman in Love."
As she puts it, "This is the CD I've been promising myself to write for a long time. Blues is the bedrock of modern music. Recording it has given me so much pleasure."
