I had quite a bit of high hopes for this single, but it doesn't seem to be doing much here in Canada. One of the major stations, CHUM FM, apparently just dropped it from their playlist.
My station has been spinning it in evenings/overnights for the past month.

Unfortunately, it seems that she's being lost in the shuffle with many other artists at the moment being pushed in that format. Plus, given how "Angel" performed, and this track not having that familiar, upbeat pop sound that many come to associate with her (i.e. Unwritten, Love Like This, Pocketful of Sunshine), this seems like something Pop does not want to bother touching.
Even though Hot AC is giving this one a chance (thankfully), I don't think it will be as big of a hit as "Pocketful of Sunshine". It's not doing much here in Canada thus far, especially after CHUM FM Toronto dropped it from their playlist. I have a feeling that this song will resonate more on AC, after they get past "Pocketful of Sunshine".

Should be Top 30 by this weekend - enough for it to get some airplay on Rick Dees and AT40 in the upcoming weeks.
While I like both this single and "Pocketful of Sunshine" off her latest album, I'm starting to like this one a lot more.

34 30 NATASHA BEDINGFIELD Soulmate 514 457 57 2.210 Top 30. I'm not too famliar on how the US charts work, so can someone explain...if this does well in this format, does it have a chance of entering the Hot 100 or getting a Pop adds date? Thanks. :)

34 30 NATASHA BEDINGFIELD Soulmate 514 457 57 2.210 Top 30. I'm not too famliar on how the US charts work, so can someone explain...if this does well in this format, does it have a chance of entering the Hot 100 or getting a Pop adds date? Thanks. :) Not exactly. Coldplay's "Lovers in Japan" managed to reach Top 20 on Hot AC without charting on the Hot 100 but completely flopped on CHR/Pop. Had it managed to peak slightly higher than it did, it would have been enough to make an appearance in the Billboard Hot 100 but without enough spins on other formats like CHR and/or Alternative, it would be difficult. I'm thinking if this song goes on to do well enough as some of her previous hit singles first on this format, then Pop will probably go ahead and add this. Of course, it may take a while - notice Matt Nathanson's "Come On Get Higher" is only charting on CHR now, long after it already peaked on Hot AC and Triple A. Subsquently, this song should easily be in the Hot 100. While it has not gotten a Pop adds date yet, I did see this single charting somewhere below #100 in the format about a week ago. As of yesterday, it was still nowhere to be found in the Top 100. Unfortunately right now, it is not doing much in Canada either. It showed some promise at the beginning of the year on Hot AC, but had a setback when one of the country's major stations dropped it from their playlist. It peaked as high #24 on their weekly chart only during a few weeks' run. Pretty underwhelming since the other singles from her latest album including "Angel" all managed to reach Top 10 - this one didn't even reach Top 20 at the very least.

BTW, this is one of two singles getting sampled as a breakout this weekend on the Hot AC version of AT40.

No problem! In the case of regular weekly countdown shows like American Top 40, they play at least one or two songs that are "sampled" or "featured" as a breakout - better known to the listener as the "AT40 Breakout". The "AT40 Breakout" is a song being played for the first time during the weekly AT40 countdown show and promoted to become a hit song, which has not yet entered their chart. At the very least, it is a song that is either expected to or will enter the chart in the upcoming weeks. In almost all cases, the latter will happen. So think of it as a song that's at #41 or #42 (although it's not promoted that way and not played in order before the other 40 songs of the week). Since the show is roughly four hours long, each of the "AT40 Breakouts" are played at some point during the first and second hour of the show. In the event that the "AT40 Breakout" does not enter the chart one week later, it will be featured as an "AT40 Extra" since it has already been featured at least once, and will continue to be the case until it enters the top 40 in the following weeks. Depending on which shows you listen to on the radio, they have different ways of promoting these songs but essentially it means the same thing as it revolves on new music. Another countdown show like Rick Dees' Weekly Top 40 will refer it to as the "Sure Shot". Others will have fancy sayings like "Future Hit", "Bonus Track", "Extra Track", "Chart Bound", "Fresh Cut", and so on forth. It took me a while to understand this concept, but now I'm glad to share my knowledge with those who need to ask. Hope this helps!

And speaking of Rick Dees, "Soulmate" is indeed his "Sure Shot" this week, which means it will enter his chart next week.
