Hey I can't believe this is #22 on the Hot AC chart (with over 700 plays)...IMO any station which plays Miley Cyrus on a regular basis can't possibly be targeting adults, and should be classified as CHR - wonderin what you all think...

I've never understood why just because an artist's chief audience is young people, it's automatically assumed that older people wouldn't like their stuff, as well. I like "See You Again", and I'm 46 years old. So, I don't have a problem with it being played on an "adult" leaning station.

Actually, I think its 80's-sound really makes it belong on Hot AC.

Remember, some acts that appeal to teens also appeal to their mothers. The moms are prime targets of the HAC format. While none of the following acts had major success, they did impact the HAC chart and appealed to teens at the time:
Christina Aguilera, 10 top 40 HAC hits (1 top 10) Backstreet Boys: 9 top 40 hits (no top 10s) 'N Sync: 4 top 40 hits (no top 10s) Britney Spears: 5 top 40 hits (no top 10s)

I'm going to agree with the teens (well, preteens in this case) and their moms effect. Not to mention that this is a solid Pop song with a wider base than your average Disney Channel single. If Britney can chart, so can Miley.

Maybe, but then there's always the forces preventing the pop/top 40 panel from actually having stations that play all pop. So no matter what it just won't happen.

I'm going to agree with the teens (well, preteens in this case) and their moms effect. Def. agree with the "teens and their moms" thing...only thing is I def. remember CHR/Pop bein promoted as the "teens and their moms" format (with the exception of teen-exclusive Kiss CHRs)...i. e. teens weren't gonna sit through replays of "Hurts So Good" by John Melloncamp on HAC stations, so HAC was built to appeal just to the "soccer moms" (I thought) I guess what I mean is that...if a station is appealing to teens AND their moms, then it's appealing to a wide variety of ages, and IMO should be classified as CHR

I can't help but wonder who the target mom is in most people's minds on this board, because from what I know, most HotAC stations target women 25-44 (or somewhere in there).
I dunno, maybe it's just me, maybe it's just the Canada factor, but people don't "dislike" a certain kind of music when they reach a certain age. Is Miley Cyrus's song a little immature? Absolutely. But it's catchy, and I think that's all that's important.
The average mom these days isn't June Cleaver. She has a little more style than she used to.

I gotta give credit to Hot AC stations spinning Miley. Do I hate the song? Yes. But still...If you can be a station that both moms and kids can agree on while driving in the car... then more ratings for you.

This song has mass appeal. It totally makes sense to spin this on HotAC. Most of the 30 somethings probably won't have a clue who this is until after they hear it a few times and like it (just like me).

(Just wonderin what you all think...) Are Alternative Stations that spin Paramore CHR? No. There's always going to be bleeding over the format lines. It's not completely black and white.

Wait...that's not what I meant lol...in other words, if your station is playin Top 40 hits that appeal to both daughters and their moms (not just adults), then aren't you prob. a CHR? (That was the case 5 years ago anyway...to get your CHR ratings up, you were supposed to be a station that daughters and their moms could agree on...I've just never heard the "daughter and mom" thing applied to Hot AC)

How did Hiliary Duff's two hits do on Hot AC? I wonder if the mom and their daughters effect happened there.

Only one Hilary song has charted on R&R/Mediabase: "Come Clean" reached #36.
