If "so many" 25 to 54 year old women love "Love The Way You Lie", then why is it being played on only 19 out of 100 Hot AC stations? That doesn't sound like many adults like this song, and most who do are already listening to CHR stations or misclassified Hot AC stations on the panel. Just my few cents. If a song like "Love The Way You Lie" or "Like A G6" fits somewhere into the rotation of a handful of HotACs, it doesn't automatically make the station a CHR. It just makes the station different than the HotAC stations that you're use to! There are different demo breakdowns across the country, and the audience of a HotAC station in New York could be a lot different than a HotAC station in Lincoln, Nebraska. Yes, it may not be the HotAC that you're used to, but it's the HotAC that a station's research says it is. Just let it be. It'll never be the majority. Oh, I wasn't hung up on the number of stations so much. I know the majority of Hot AC stations in the U.S. do not play these songs. But I'm more perplexed as to why these CHR leaning Hot AC stations call themselves Hot AC when some of them basically play the top 20 CHR list. I know you consider spins and dayparting the main criteria for what makes a Hot AC station a Hot AC station. I personally think it's the type of music that more or less dictates the format. But you probably know a lot more about radio than I do Kelownaguy since you have work in the radio industry. :)

Someone posted a while back that it's easier to get funding/advertising if you call yourself Hot AC vs. calling yourself CHR - same way it's easier to get funding/advertising if you call yourself CHR rather than Rhythmic - not sure how much truth there is to it, but definitely gotta put it out there as a thought...

I'm going to suggest that that is quite true. Once again, consider the demographics. Without fully researching, I'd suggest that the "advertising pecking order" might go something like this: Jazz AAA AC Hot AC Alternative CHR Rhythmic Country Rap

Is there a way the administator can move these misclassified chr songs over to the correct forum? There should be a rule for these type of songs. Top 25 or so many spins and on atleast 40-50 stations to be considered here

Isn't country the most played format in the U.S.? Yeah - I think what he was doing though was listing the formats by demographic wealth (in general) In other words, it's really easy for a Hot AC station to sell advertising, cause their listeners tend to be very well-off and have a lot of extra spending money - more so than CHR, and then CHR more so than Rhythmic I have no idea where Country would fit in though, since I think it appeals to a lot of different demographics (in the South, Midwest, etc.)

Even though I'm in the minority on this topic, I like the back-and-forth between fairly reasonable people. If you don't like it, nobody is forcing you to read it. Read another topic, or go hide under a rock or something.

CHR is moving towards Rhythmic, so Hot AC is moving towards CHR to fill in the hole - IMO the only way HAC is gonna move back to the center is if CHR moves back to mainstream, and forces it to
It's not the way I want it, but don't think there's anything anyone can do about it, since HAC can get higher ratings if it moves towards mainstream CHR (especially at night)

^Not sure how to look it up on allaccess - the only major market stations that played it were WWMX/Baltimore and WKRQ/Cincinnati, which both have a reputation for sounding like CHRs
