^What song(s) moved as fast as this one on HAC? The record for fastest rise to #1 on the Hot AC chart is held by "I'll Be There for You" by the Rembrandts and "Thank U" by Alanis Morissette, with each song taking 6 weeks to hit the top. Of course, that was on the 30 position HAC chart. "Need You Now" hit #6 in its 7th week on the chart. If we take away its only week below #40, that means it hit the top 10 in only its 6th week above #30. "Fireflies" hit the top 10 in its 5th week above #30. "Her Diamonds" hit #10 in its 4th week on the chart, as did "My Life Would Suck without You". "Need You Now" is in the top 5 in its 8th week on the chart. "My Life Would Suck...", "Her Diamonds", and "Fireflies" also hit the top 5 in their 8th week. I'm not trying to downplay Lady Antelbellum's rapid rise to the top. It's an impressive feat, and I'm happy for them. :) However, 3 songs from last year also moved quite rapidly to the top. Of course putting Lady Antebellum in the same group as Kelly Clarkson and Rob Thomas is a good compliment. Maybe another way of looking at it: When was the last time a song had a +700 for a week? Or a 20% gain in airplay, with the denominator being as high as "Need You Now" has? I'm surmising that it would have been 'easier' to have rapid position gains when the panel was smaller.

What is stopping the 4 other HAC stations from playing this I wonder? Probably the lack of a rule stating that a station has to play EVERY hit.

What is the highest spin peak for a HAC song? The spin numbers are tough to say due to the ever-changing number of stations reporting for the chart. I've only followed it for a couple years, and I remember seeing a few songs in the 4000s, but I know there are a few on the board that keep track of this stat. NYN is getting up there though, and could be the first song this year to spend 10+ weeks at the top on the chart.

I wonder who will replace them at #1 - for awhile I thought Lifehouse would hang around long enough to do so, but it's not looking good right now. I suppose the Script is a bit of a darkhorse. Beyond that, nobody is really moving up that fast.

I found this very interesting: www.billboard.com/#/column/chartbeat/chart-beat-wednesday-zac-brown-band-lady-1004081069.storyLEADING LADY: Atop Adult Pop Songs for a fourth week, Lady Antebellum's "Need You Now" rewrites the record for most weekly plays in the chart's 14-year history. Eighty-five reporters played the song a combined 4,129 times in the chart's March 29-April 4 tracking period, an average of 49 plays per station (or one spin approximately every three-and-a-half hours). Here are the titles to register the top weekly plays totals in the Adult Pop Songs archives: Highest Weekly Plays Total, Title, Artist, Year 4,129, "Need You Now," Lady Antebellum, 2010 4,043, "The Reason," Hoobastank, 2004 4,001, "This Love," Maroon 5, 2004 3,945, "Unwell," Matchbox Twenty, 2003 3,808, "Boulevard of Broken Dreams," Green Day, 2005

^I don't think that Billboard uses Mediabase as their tracking system...

Whatever about bullets, spins and audience impressions, this song is really really good and deserves its place at the top of the Hot AC charts. It has not been released this side of the Atlantic yet ( April 26th) but it is being played a lot on pop radio and Music TV over here. Im not into Country music at all, but the song is beautifully crafted and the lead male and female singers voices complement each other really well, reminds me very much of Fleetwood Mac.

Well, if a song reaches #1 on Hot AC, there has to be a good chance it will cross over to AAA eventually.
Of course, now that I say that, I'm thinking of exceptions. I doubt "Livin' La Vida Loca" did well at AAA, nor did "Apologize", "Bleeding Love", pretty much anything by Daughtry.
I guess it's not as automatic as I initially thought.

This doesn't really sound like a AAA song. I'm not complaining though.

This song could last at #1 for a long time. Nothing is really coming behind with a possibility to hit #1.

This doesn't really sound like a AAA song. I'm not complaining though. If Breakeven and Hey Soul Sister could chart there, why couldn't this? And, seeing if Breakeven misses #1, this really could stay at #1 for quite a long time. It'll be #1 on AC for a while too. Damn Derulo blocking them on pop.

^ Yeah, I was bummed about Derulo blocking them there. Top 3 is not bad though! :) Especially with the run that it had. And even more with them being a small figure in the music industry, what, 5 months ago?
