69 50 JAY SEAN Down f/Lil Wayne 133 49 84 0.449
As popular as this song is on Pop, it does not belong on Hot AC. Another case of the Pop/Rhythmic syndrome trying to make its way into the format, only because of a few stations that are out of place. Interesting since both 3OH!3 and Pitbull made their exit this weekend.

Yes, this song has no business on HAC.

To be fair, there's a version without Lil' Wayne on it. It might make the top 40, but I don't think it'll go top 20.

It's just seems that everytime the track is played or the DJ gets to announcing it, Lil Wayne's name seems to overshadow the main act on this one. And as long as my station keeps this song dayparted to evenings and overnights, it will probably keep Lil Wayne's parts in there. It kind of reminds me what happened with "Let It Rock" last year with Kevin Rudolf and Lil Wayne. Only when my station promoted that song to regular rotation, Lil Wayne's parts were edited out.

Probably charting cause of HAC's that go CHR at night (and maybe some misplaced ones)

Interesting since both 3OH!3 and Pitbull made their exit this weekend. I've said this many times before. I like seeing more Pop/Rhythmic crossovers doing well on the Hot AC format. However, there has to be a certain line that should not be crossed when choosing individual songs for the format. Any song in my opinion that contains a disproportionate amount of rap, and/or any song that sounds too hip-hoppish (ie: not much of a discernable melody and/or rhythm to it), has NO business being anywhere near a Hot AC format. I may have heard this Jay Sean song once or twice, and from what I remember of it, I have no clue as to why any station that calls itself a "Hot AC" station would even consider playing this! This is where we need a reclassification of certain stations in order to properly have them correctly classified in the first place. Why this was not done this past week when some new stations were added to the Mediabase Hot AC panel is anyone's guess.

You know, as critical as I was about this song before, the non-Lil Wayne version is actually not that bad. Better than the aforementioned Flo Rida or Iyaz songs that don't belong on the Hot AC format.
This song was just added on Chicago Hot AC WCFS, along with "3" by Britney Spears. So it looks like a full blown battle setting up between Fresh 105.9 and the Mix. It will be interesting to see when and if, and if so how often the Mix will eventually play these songs.
Another thing to remember regarding Fresh 105.9 is that being a CBS owned station, it will be interesting to see how CHR leaning they will go as a Hot AC without infringing on longtime sister station B-96, the city's longtime rhythmic CHR. Maybe no hardcore hip-hop, but it looks like they are becoming a bonified Adult CHR to compete with the Mix. Maybe they are trying to force the Mix back into a more Modern AC direction like they were for many years back in the mid 90's to mid 2000's.
