And another question...
Anyone know what's up with charismusicgroup.com? The site's been down for at least a couple days. (Charis remasters the '70s & '80s AT40 shows for Premiere Radio Networks, right?)

Got a date on when that will be? :) I'm guessing it'll be this Sunday (December 29). I guess I'll have to tune in to 105.1 The River and find out for sure.

^ I might try to do the same; my interest in it is that I've recently taken on the task of keeping up the total affiliates list on the AT40 Proboard. :) I was able to catch Part One of 1981 today, freeing me up for tomorrow. Speaking of which... AMERICAN TOP 40 TOP 100 SONGS OF 1981 - PART ONE(Original airdate: December 26, 1981) 100 Andy Gibb - Time is Time (15) 099 Kenny Rogers - Share Your Love With Me (14) 098 Rick James - Super Freak (16) 097 Christopher Cross - Never Be the Same (15) 096 James Taylor & J.D. Souther - Her Town Too (11) 095 John Cougar - Ain't Even Done With the Night (17) 094 The Beach Boys - The Beach Boys Medley (12) 093 John Lennon - Watching the Wheels (10) 092 Barbra Streisand & Barry Gibb - What Kind of Fool (10) 091 deleted Cruise - Cool Love (13) 090 Cliff Richard - A Little in Love (17) 089 Al Jarreau - We're in This Love Together (15) Flashback Extra: Olivia Newton-John "Physical", which spent the final six weeks of 1981 at #1088 The Four Tops - When She Was My Girl (11) 087 The Greg Kihn Band - The Breakup Song (They Don't Write 'Em) (15) 086 Barry Manilow - I Made it Through the Rain (10) 085 The Alan Parsons Project - Time (15) 084 Terri Gibbs - Somebody's Knockin' (13) 083 Dan Fogelberg - Hard to Say (7) 082 Champaign - How 'Bout Us (12) 081 Stevie Wonder - I Ain't Gonna Stand For It (11) 080 Dottie West - What Are We Doin' in Love (14) 079 Dan Fogelberg - Same Old Lang Syne (9) 078 Tierra - Together (18) 077 Heart - Tell it Like it Is (8) 076 The Police - Don't Stand So Close to Me (10) Flashback Extra: Pat Benatar "Fire and Ice"075 The Electric Light Orchestra - Hold On Tight (10) 074 Cliff Richard - Dreaming (10) 073 Styx - Too Much Time On My Hands (9) 072 Gary "U.S." Bonds - This Little Girl (11) 071 Eric Clapton & His Band - I Can't Stand It (10) 070 The Police - De Do Do Do, De Da Da Da (10) 069 Rick Springfield - I've Done Everything For You (8) 068 Steve Winwood - While You See a Chance (7) 067 Steely Dan - Hey Nineteen (10) 066 Franke & The Knockouts - Sweetheart (10) 065 Neil Diamond - America (8) 064 Devo - Whip It (14) 063 Neil Diamond - Hello Again (6) Flashback Extra: The Go-Gos "Our Lips Are Sealed"062 Hall & Oates - You've Lost That Lovin' Feelin' (12) 061 The Climax Blues Band - I Love You (12) 060 George Harrison - All Those Years Ago (2) 059 Bob Seger & The Silver Bullet Band - Tryin' to Live My Life Without You (5) 058 Delbert McClinton - Giving it Up For Your Love (8) 057 The Manhattan Transfer - Boy From New York City (7) 056 Donna Summer - The Wanderer (3) 055 Diana Ross - I'm Coming Out (5) 054 Marty Balin - Hearts (8) 053 Hall & Oates - You Make My Dreams (5) Flashback Extra: Phil Collins "In the Air Tonight", which "just missed the Top 100 of 1981"052 Diana Ross - It's My Turn (9) 051 Sheena Easton - For Your Eyes Only (4) NOTES: - Yes, of the three years where the year's Top 100 was still two shows, this is the first where both parts will be aired.
- Casey mentioned that Barry Manilow's first 18 chart singles all made the Top 40, a string that ended with "I Made it Through the Rain".
- So, Neil Diamond's first of three songs in the Top 100 came in at #65. One (original) segment later..."Hello Again": #63. Fitting, no? ;)
- Not a lot of year-end figures in here...most of Part One seems to be story-based rather than figure-based.
- Casey states in his closing here that the survey period covered is from mid-November 1980 to mid-November 1981.
- #1 Soul Album of the Year: Street Songs by Rick James
- #1 Soul Album Artist of the Year: Rick James
- #1 Soul Singles Artist of the Year: Stevie Wonder

This is the 1981 year end top 100 based on the Billboard charts as compiled by AT40 and not the Billboard year end Hot 100 Correct. 1980-84 the show compiled their own year-end charts, 1985-89 they used Billboard's. - Casey announces that the survey period was from November 1974 through November 1975. From what I've read, the survey (AT40 used Billboard's rankings that year) was from 11/2/1974 through 11/1/1975. - For the tied positions at #97, #71 and #66 it looks like AT40 played the higher-ranked song in the tied position first followed by the second-ranked song. - More next week including a revamped ranking of the Top 100 survey (since Billboard didn't give full chart runs to 1974 hits).

The 1984 countdown is one of the charts where the AT40 #1 and the Hot 100 year end #1 were not the same.

- After a Part One with no jingles whatsoever, Part Two kicks off with a #50.
- HUGE spoiler at the beginning - going into the first commercial break, Casey states in counting down to the #1 song of 1981, it would either be "Endless Love" or "Bette Davis Eyes". Any other year-end countdown where he...was so blunt about it?
- Casey stated that "Elvira" won the Juke Box Award in 1981, as the biggest moneymaker in juke boxes during the year.
- Casey counted down the Top 5 albums of 1981: #5 - Crimes of Passion by Pat Benatar, #4 - Christopher Cross, #3 - Greatest Hits by Kenny Rogers, #2 - Double Fantasy by John Lennon & Yoko Ono, #1 - Hi Infidelity by REO Speedwagon
- He also counted down the Top 5 Singles acts: #5 - REO Speedwagon, #4 - Hall & Oates, #3 - Kim Carnes, #2 - John Lennon, #1 - Kenny Rogers
For whatever reason, "Who's Crying Now" was moved from the first song in Hour 2 to the last song in Hour 1. EDIT: Turns out that wasn't Premiere's doing after all - they'd printed it that way on the cue sheet, but as shown by the respective segment lengths, it originally played that way to begin with.- Casey said we heard "What Kind of Fool" back at #52 - whoopsie!
- Gee, he must have been fond of Top 5 countdowns when doing this one...the Top 5 Soul Singles artists of the year: #5 - Cameo, #4 - Diana Ross & Lionel Richie, #3 - Rick James, #2 - Kool & The Gang, #1 - Stevie Wonder
- The Top 5 Jazz Artists of the year: #5 - Miles Davis, #4 - Spyro Gyra, #3 - David Sanborn, #2 - Al Jarreau, #1 - Grover Washington, Jr.
- The Top 5 New acts of the year: #5 - Franke & The Knockouts, #4 - Loverboy, #3 - Billy Squier, #2 - Phil Collins, #1 - Sheena Easton
- The Top 5 Singles Groups/Duos of the year: #5 - Styx, #4 - Blondie, #3 - Air Supply, #2 - REO Speedwagon, #1 - Hall & Oates
- The Top 5 Soul Acts of the Year: #5 - The Gap Band, #4 - Kool & The Gang, #3 - Cameo, #2 - Stevie Wonder, #1 - Rick James
- Female Artist of the Year: Pat Benatar
- Top Act of the Year (Singles + Albums combined): REO Speedwagon
- #1 Country Album of the Year: 9 to 5 And Odd Jobs by Dolly Parton
- #1 Male Singles Artist, Male Album Artist, Male Artist (overall), Country Album Artist, Country Artist (overall), and Pop Singles Artist of the Year: Kenny Rogers
- #1 Soul Single of the Year: "Endless Love"
- #1 Producer of the Year: Lionel Richie
- #1 Country Single of the Year (according to American Country Countdown): "Party Time" by T.G. Sheppard. Billboard's is actually different - theirs is "Fire and Smoke" by Earl Thomas Conley.
P.S. There was one more Top 5 of the year in Part One that I didn't make note of previously. The Top 5 Soundtrack Albums: #5 - Xanadu, #4 - Endless Love, #3 - Fame, #2 - Honeysuckle Rose, #1 - The Jazz Singer

- Station Of The Week: KOKZ - Only one tied position among the Top 50 and once again AT40 played the higher-peaking song first ("Angie Baby") then the second ("Wasted Days And Wasted Nights"). "Angie Baby" clearly would've fared better than "Wasted Days And Wasted Nights" if all of its' charted weeks were included. - As mentioned last week, AT40 used Billboard's year-end rankings. Well, Billboard made a really big error in ranking "Some Kind Of Wonderful". According to vince in the AT40 Fun & Games board, "Some Kind Of Wonderful" only accumulated 1,052 points during Billboard's survey period. If Billboard had counted right, "Some Kind Of Wonderful" would have ranked at #75. - In addition to the "Some Kind Of Wonderful" miscalculation, Billboard ignored "Black Superman (Muhammad Ali)" by Johnny Wakelin which was in the Hot 100 for 27 weeks. It could have ranked #92 for the year. - At the end of the show, Casey had fellow AT40 staffers mention themselves for all the hard work they've done. After which Casey said "Now get back to work." :)

Their site says they play a 3-hour show...were they in the 30s by the time you tuned in yesterday? I think the first song I heard was Stephanie Mills' Never Knew Love Like This Before. Apparently, I didn't miss much. AT40: The '80s is aired every Sunday from 9 am to 12 pm (Central Time) on 105.1 The River.

Did this go all the way to #1?

It hit #4 back in 1961. NOTES: - Something I'm going to start doing is color-coding the biggest (upward) mover and biggest dropper within the countdown - but only if Casey announces either as such.
- With all the upper-tempo songs out there lately, this show was kind of refreshing for all the slower music it had. That said, it felt like there was quite a bit of it in this week's show for a Top 40 of the later half of the 80s. I also have to hand it to WCRZ this week - not only did the show end when it was supposed to, but they played all four Flashback Extras this week. Add those to the show's own Extra, three LDDs, the Top 2 played in full at the beginning, plus the Top 40 itself...and that's 50 songs played in the four-hour slot!
- Casey erred when he stated that "Two People" was spending its third week at #30; it only spent two there. He did the same with "Control" at #6...methinks the week off he had the week before (He stated that Charlie Van Dyke filled in the week before.) must've had an after-effect.
- Fittingly, "This is the Time" was Billy Joel's 28th Top 40 hit. Casey announced Billy as having had more Top 40 hits than anyone in the countdown...except for Chicago, who in fact also currently had their 28th.
- Casey announced Ben E. King as the only artist at that time to have appeared in the Top 10 in four different decades - in the 50s as lead singer of The Drifters, 60s and 70s solo, and of course the 80s with the "Stand By Me" re-release.
- #1 on the Album Chart: Slippery When Wet by Bon Jovi (earlier described as returning to #1, unseating Bruce Springsteen's Live 1975-85)
- #1 on the Country Chart: "What Am I Gonna Do About You" by Reba McEntire
- #1 on the Soul Chart: "Stop to Love"
The 70s, however, will be a new (not previously aired) show.
