This is great for Hot AC - it has a late 70's feel about it, kind of reminiscent of Bruce Springsteen/John Mellencamp/etc., and Hot AC still plays them. Definitely a hit.

Put an adds date on this song! It's too bad it never even reached Top 10 on Active rock; has this done anything or been sent to country yet? Cause this is a better version of "All Summer Long"... Pt 2!

^ Yah but I thought that since the second single peaked at #11 (I think), it could outpeak that. Sad it had such a fast run on active.

^I know this is generalizing, but my friends who listen to Active will hear something that sounds HAC and call it "wussy stuff" or "elevator music" - it's definitely a format based on sound I think - if it's heavy, it ROCKS!!! (If it isn't, it belongs on another station)

(If it isn't, it belongs on another station) So? "Amen" made it to #11, and it's a soft song. And it doesn't need to be "heavy", it needs to be powerful, with voice and/or instrumental (there are exceptions). "Powerful" would describe it better than "Heavy" (hence "The Crow & the Butterfly" going #1 this year, powerful but not very heavy at all).

Yeah The Crow & The Butterfly isn't heavy, but I think it's got an Active Rock sound to it (the chords and all) - and yeah there are Metallica songs that aren't heavy, like Nothing Else Matters, so that post was probably too extreme lol
Not sure about the powerful thing, but Active doesn't like stuff that sounds HAC, and IMO this sounds really HAC - I think Amen had much more of an edge to it (and also it only peaked at #11)

I think it has more to do with a timing thing. "Amen" got as far as it did on active because "So Hott" had just been a tailor-made (bad) active rock cut. While "All Summer Long" did well, it also found decent success at pop formats and now with "Born Free" being the next major single ("R&R Jesus" didn't do well enough for the casual radio listener to remember it), this is the third straight majorly pushed Kid Rock single without distorted power chords and without the sound that made him an active rock artist in the first place. Make "Born Free" the follow-up to "So Hott" and "Amen" the lead single off the current record, and I think you'd find that their performances would swap.
