Lady Antebellum makes it 6 weeks at the top, but things have gotten much tighter at the top. It's very close this week and anybody in the top 3 has a shot at #1 next week. Will OneRepublic get their first chart topper? Will Colbie get her 3rd?
No top 10 entries this week, but Gavin DeGraw makes a nice 10-7 jump. Maybe his new DWTS gig might give him more fans in the AC demo. Adele meanwhile is having difficulty juggling 3 songs in the top 10 as "Someone Like You" slips 3-6 this week.
The only top 20 entry this week comes from the Rascal Flatts as "Easy" makes a jump 23-20. This marks the band's 5th top 20 hit. Their last top 20 was "Here Comes Goodbye" peaking at #13 in August 2009. For Natasha Bedingfield, this is her 3rd top 20 appearance. Her last top 20 was "Pocketful of Sunshine" peaking at #3 in October 2008.
Jessie J took the leap of the week as "Domino" climbs 27-23 in its 2nd week on the chart.
What's old is new again is the theme this week when it comes to debuts. The highest debut at #24 comes to us from Lionel Richie remaking a... Lionel Richie song. The new version of "Endless Love" is the first single off his new country duets album "Tuskegee." The original, a Diana Ross duet is remade with another AC fave, Shania Twain. As a solo artist, this is Lionel's 28th AC hit, and this now marks 4 decades of Lionel on the chart. His last chart appearance was (one I'd rather forget) "Just Go" which peaked at #11 in June 2009. Shania Twain made her return to the chart over Christmas as her duet with 2011 Christmas king Michael Bublé "White Christmas" reached #10 in January.
This is the 3rd rendition of Endless Love to make the chart. Lionel's original version with Diana Ross hit #1 back in September 1981. Luther Vandross & Mariah Carey took the song to #11 back in October 1994.
Continuing the "what's old is new" theme Elliott Yamin returns to the chart after a 1-week slip as "3 Words" jumps back in at a new peak of #28.
The next debut is another remake, this time from country singer Blake Shelton. "God Gave Me You" was originally recorded by Dave Barnes and was a Christian hit in 2010. The song crossed over to AC and reached #21 last June. Blake wears many hats from Country king, to Voice mentor, to Miranda Lambert's husband, an d now he has his first AC hit.
And how can we do "what's old is new" without a pop recurrent debuting? Entering at #30 are Cobra Starship & Sabi with their big hit from last year "You Make Me Feel." The song marks the first appearance for both acts.
The Doobie Brothers go recurrent this week, but the only new peak to result was the re-entry from Elliott Yamin.
