It's uneventful, forgettable but it'll probably be a hit. Even though I initially hated "We Found Love", the instrumental made it semi memorable for me at the time.

I really like it, but it seems like she is trying to immitate Sia's voice in various parts of the song.
EDIT:...reading through the rest of the thread I'm not the only one who definitely noticed.

It does sound like that. Back in the day when Prince wrote for Apollonia Kotero, Sheena Easton, Sheila E, Vanity 6, etc., he would give them a guide vocal he recorded himself and then they in turn recorded their version. The resulting final recording had those obvious enunciations and stuff that are characteristic of Prince's own work. I think that some of Sia's vocals from the demo are used as backing vocals in some places and/or she actually did the backing vocals.

Diamonds is now #1 in 13 countries: France, Spain, Norway, Portugal, Poland, Venezuela, Bulgaria, Cyprus, Costa Rica, Slovakia, Slovenia, Malta, Hungary. From Rihanna Daily, love seeing 'Portugal' on there

First listen this morning = wtf is this. Second listen of it just now = amazing. I can see why some people are scratching their heads at it but I think it's a grower, Rihanna always gets weird initial reception (from pulse anyway) on her lead singles; I remember people bashing OG and especially WFL when they dropped and then a couple weeks later people were all over their clits. #mess
I see this the same way and I actually think this could be HUGE. It's different and edgy to mainstream radio rn and in a way it kinda gives me an "Umbrella" vibe in that it has an ethereal, universal feel. I can def see why the label went for this first, it has loads of potential.

I am not that big of a Rihanna fan, I do enjoy her music but I absolutely love this song from the first time I heard it. It is something different from her other songs of late and her vocals are the best I've heard from her.

God, her pronunciation of "bright" is annoying me so much. Sing it normally for God's sake!
I REALLY hope I can get over her strange singing because the rest of it is amazing.

Slow burner. This song just gets better to be honest. Rihanna can't help but shit on a certain generic release from this week.

Edit: The rhyme was nice though :kii:

Listened for a second time. Yes, I do hear the Lana "Born To Die" comparisons, mostly because of the drum beat and the orchestration. A grower of a song if I EVER heard one. Perhaps I need to be as high as Rihanna to TRULY appreciate but I have heard worse from her - not in a lead single, per se, but definitely in her catalog of songs. I still would have preferred Sia singing lead and not just...background here because I definitely hear her, loud and clear. Yeah I think I would like this more if Sia or even Lana sung this. This one is a grower for sure and while WFL wasn't instant for me it was better. I do like that this is a departure from her normal catalog but there's nothing amazing about this. But the song itself does have a Lana vibe to me but yeah mainly in the production.

It is hard not to like this while I do sense certain elements/layers are missing in this song. The overall feel is a nice one. Vocally, I am impressed how much character/texture her voice is displaying in this song. The once monotone singer has become a seat warmer and Rihanna wants to show some vocal talent, I like. Lyrically, it has a repetitive flow but not generic, fortunately. From her description, I don't find the song to hippy or happy but it is inspirational though. Not on the level of the classic lead off, "We Found Love", but a nice addition to her endless discography.

The last release of hers I liked was...S&M feat Britney, and before that Rude Boy.
