IS P!NK G.O.O.D. ENOUGH TO BEAT KANYE FOR #1? RCA Diva Has Edge Going Into Week, The Killers Look for Six Figure Debut
September 19, 2012
She’s the daring young diva on the flying trapeze. RCA diva P!nk’s latest, The Truth About Love, her sixth studio recording, is on target to be her first-ever # album, with a projected total of 200-225k. Her previous high was the #2 slot reached by the last album, 2008’s Funhouse. That would be enough to top Kanye West’s G.O.O.D. Music compilation on Def Jam/IDJ, Cruel Summer, which may have suffered from a brief, one-day absence of the album from iTunes, but is gaining ground quickly, according to one-day sales reports from retailers both physical and digital lucky enough not to find themselves part of Mitt Romney’s 47% cut-off. At this point it looks like it will sell in the 170-190k range. We’ll keep an eye on the battle as we head into Friday’s Weakend Chart Preview.
Las Vegas alt-rockers The Killers’ Battle Born, their fourth Island/IDJ album and first since 2008’s Day & Age, should break six figures, with a projected total of 110-120k. The last one racked up 193k in its debut week.
Warp Records Brooklyn art-rock indie darlings Grizzly Bear—one of Jay-Z and Beyonce’s alterna-faves—is looking at an impressive first week of sales between 40-50k.
604/Schoolboy/Interscope Canadian popster Carly Rae Jepsen’s Kiss looks to be in the 35-40k range, with plenty of help from efforts by the label’s Scooter Braun to spread the world through social networking.
Mercury Nashville country singer-songwriter Easton Corbin’s All Over the Road, the sophomore follow-up to his self-titled debut in 2010, is on target for 25-30k, the same as Columbia alt-Americana rockers Band of Horses’ Mirage Rock, the Seattle band’s fourth album, the follow-up to 2010’s Grammy-nominated Infinite Arms.
Album sales were up 7% vs. last week, down 8% vs. same week last year and down 5% year to date.
Track sales were down 2% vs. last week, up 9% vs. same week last year and up 6% year to date.
TEA sales were up 4% vs. last week, down 4% vs. same week last year and down 2% year to date.

I'm a bit surprised to see P!nk being considered the favorite entering what truly is a competitive chart week.
Kanye West has that undeniable track record, and so for some reason I still feel he'll edge her out. But we'll see.
Those are pretty impressive numbers for The Killers. "Runaways" hasn't nearly sized up to the level of success worldwide "Human" did as far as lead singles are concerned (although on their core Alternative format, it runs about equal to that, I suppose).

I don't know how bad it is really [CRJ's projected opening]. As big as CMM was, she's still not really an established artist at this point. Also, while "Good Time" is current, it's split with Owl City.
The Killers actually were slightly above my expectations. I'm seemingly the only one I know who wasn't let down by Day & Age and it seemed like their popularity was waning since then.

Not surprising to me actually. The only reason I checked out the CD was because I like "This Kiss" when I heard it. "Call Me Maybe" and "Good Time" never got me interested in her, and made he sort of dislike her actually. So for the general audience, I can see why those two songs garnered no fanbase for her.

Damn, P!nk is slaying! :o I honestly didn't think she'd sell over 200k. Very deserved though. I hope she gets the #1.
Poor Carly. :'( I honestly thought she could get 70-85k.

Those 100k predictions for Carly from a few weeks back seem funny now.

Not surprising for Carly but still sad. If they release the right singles though she should have good legs.

Good for Pink, Kanye and Grizzly Bear.
Not surprising for Carly. The hit single has already sold nearly 6 million copies and the surprise-follow-up-hit-second-single has already sold 1.5 million.
p.s. What happened to Wiz's album being released this week?

p.s. What happened to Wiz's album being released this week? Pushed back indefinitely, I believe.

No mention of Nelly Furtado. Awesome as the album is, I bet predictions are sadly low.

As soon as I saw they were trying to fly Good Time as Carly's second single I knew she would debut low. A shared feature on a song that sounds identical to the other artist's sound just doesn't do the job that a second single needs to do to establish a fanbase or identity for an artist. Shame because it sounds like a great pop cd that could have sent solo smashes top 10 before the album release. Hopefully, a few of those songs will still be pushed.
Awesome for Pink and decent for The Killers!

If it was actually a Kanye album I would be surprised to see it not #1, but it's a compilation album headlined by Kanye, which isn't the same thing so I expected it to be less of a smash.

I wouldn't press the panic button on Carly. Remember when Bruno open with similar numbers with a huge hit like Just The Way You Are? Well now look at his sales.. I believe the same thing will happen after Good Time peaks and she moves on to other songs on the album that will give the album some good sales. She has smashes on the album waiting to be released.
Good for P!nk.

Good for P!nk. Could be. Bruno also had a relatively 'artistic' image as a pianist and songwriter. He also had the vintage thing (Grammy performance). I don't see Carly's album eventually selling 1.5 million. JMO.

I think GOOD will end up with a #2 slot, but will hit closer to 200k with Pink getting #1 with around 210k.
Carlys no surprise. Did anyone else know she has an album out? I follow this board and I only realized when I saw it at the lowly #4 position on iTunes.

Awesome for Pink! First #1 on AirPlay and possibly first #1 album :) Kanyes numbers seem low but if it isn't soley his project maybe that's why. Good numbers for the killers! I thought Carly would surprise ala Ke$ha but hopefully it has legs :$ and poor nelly not even getting a prediction, this era has sadly been a disastuh for her. Anyways Go P!nk :) oh and I'm sure Pink is happy she's beating Kanye...no love lost there.

But prior to 'JTWYA', he was either writing or being featured on tracks before that song blew up. He had buzz around his name & that song to produce hits & legs for his album. Carly is in a different situation. I don't see her pulling a "Bruno", but stranger things has happened.

It's not looking good for Nelly Furtado's "The Spirit Indestructible". It's a shame because her album is very good.

Carly's opening week seems fairly consistent with Katy Perry's debut back in 2008, and she ended up selling 1.4 M with that album, so who knows what will happen with Carly.

I'll just add that successful albums by ANY artist does not gaurantee that ALL albums forever will achieve the same success, especially when we are referencing one from so long ago. Time in the spotlight can be very limited

poor Carly, idc what anyone says, those numbers are pretty bad.
Even Ke$ha opened with 150k based off of "Tik Tok".
