Will Breaking Southwest be assigned to one of the imprints or is Nash Next an imprint by itself? For me, from the name, if Nash Next is an imprint it sounds like a starter label for new artists until they have been recording awhile then be assigned to another BMLG label. For now, they're with the NASH Next label. None of the winners on this competition will be assigned to anything other than that label, at least to start with. Same goes with airplay. This is a partnership with Cumulus, so I'm presuming that any and all airplay will come from Cumulus owned stations. I'm not really sure any significant airplay will even happen anyway. I suppose that Breaking Southwest could be assigned to one of the major imprints (Big Machine, Republic, Valory, Dot) later on, if Borchetta decides to continue long-term with them.

A new group called Breaking Southwest is on the newly formed Nash Next record label. The group won the Cumulus formed Nash Next competition in 2015 and they have a debut single called "Ghost Town" out at radio shortly. Been following these guys for a few years...admittedly, I like some of their earlier material more than their recent stuff. Will be interesting to see what Big Machine does with them. For anyone who wants to listen, most of their independent stuff is still on Spotify.

They're getting spun ('Ghost Town") this past week on KSCS in Dallas (Cumulus), which is their hometown.

Interesting...it appears that Love and Theft may have signed with Curb Records. I just posted the Weekly Adds Report from Mediabase; "Whiskey On My Breath" got 1 more add, and the label was listed as "Curb" instead of Hate & Purchase/Thirty Tigers. I figured that it was probably a mistake, but I decided to do a quick Google search for "Love and Theft Curb Records" anyway, and I noticed this: curb.com/tourThat's a list of tour dates from Curb's official website. The only artists listed there are Curb artists -- Wynonna, Lee Brice, Dylan Scott, Tim Dugger, Rodney Atkins, Mo Pitney, etc. plus Curb's Christian artists like Plumb, Natalie Grant, Selah, etc...and then there are several Love and Theft tour dates mixed in. So yeah, I'm thinking Love and Theft have joined Curb, and if that's the case, we'll probably get an official announcement (press release or something) soon. PS: "Whiskey On My Breath" is the song that refuses to go away, lol. If Curb picks up promotion, this would be the song's what? 3rd wind? 4th?

Curb is one of the worst record labels of all time, especially for when an artist is trying to get back out there.

Curb is one of the worst record labels of all time, especially for when an artist is trying to get back out there. They're better than the newly formed full promotion staff at Thirty Tigers. As much as folks here don't like Mike Curb (for reasons that are justified in some cases), he and his label are still viewed in high regard in Nashville and their promotion staff coupled with Love and Theft's name recognition, might be enough for them to stay relevant on Country radio, at least for a little while longer. If Love and Theft are being allowed to make the music they want, then I would have signed with Curb too, if I was offered a contract.

Yeah, at this point, Curb is better than nothing for them, so they should definitely take any kind of opportunity like that if they hope to stay even semi-relevant at country radio.

For what it's worth, Curb's website has L&T listed on their on tour schedule. Yeah that's already been discussed.

Be ready!</p>— Silverado Records (@silveradolabel) I was gonna post about it, but thanks for posting anyway. From what I've heard from him, Nick sounds like a really great artist who is gonna do very great things. Best of all he's got a very Traditional song on the EP he released in 2014. It's called "Broke on Main Street".

I know there was some chatter about John King possibly being let got from Black River Entertainment a couple months ago but he's still with the label. Black River congratulated John on "We Went" (he was a co-writer) going #1 this past week and today they tweeted out a photo of John next to his custom made sign, outside the Black River offices.
The only reason I was a tad skeptical he was in fact let go was because he didn't appear at the Buffalo Sabres Unpucked event in February and he was a part of the event in 2014 and 2015, so I don't exactly know why he wasn't a part of the festivities -- I'll assume there was a schedule conflict, which is reasonable. My guess is that Black River is keeping John in the backdrop for now and waiting to try at least one more single.

Very odd release. They refer to some of their previous singles and call them hits, but only mention their "failed singles", not their two biggest hits, Runaway and Angel Eyes.

Maybe Curb and Music Row don't want to get everyone's hopes too high by mentioning their only two top 10 singles.

Yeah, I was just about to comment on that, as I was curious if it was a conscious move to not mention their number one single by the publicist or just an oversight. Glad they have a bit more label muscle behind them. Can they salvage Whiskey on My Breath, or did it already go recurrent?

Can they salvage Whiskey on My Breath, or did it already go recurrent? Its lost 72 spins and 330k in audience over the past two weeks on Mediabase. They could decide to salvage it if they'd like but I would think a new single would be better. We'll see though.

My personal choice would be "Everybody Drives Drunk" but I don't see radio touching that because of the title alone (MADD would be all over them despite the actual lyrics being more than the hook). "Can't Stop Smiling" and "Can't Wait For The Weekend" make sense too (if any of the other songs on "Whiskey" are under consideration).

Maybe Curb and Music Row don't want to get everyone's hopes too high by mentioning their only two top 10 singles. They're probably just conditioned to touting low-peaking chart singles as "hits" since well... that's about all they get for anyone not named Lee Brice these days. A little random, but I heard "Whiskey on My Breath" on the radio today and it sounded quite lovely. I think it could be a potentially wise decision for Curb to re-issue that one and throw some promo muscle behind it. The chart performance it was able to accomplish given their limited resources was a rather positive endorsement for that single, imo. Not saying it could turn into a big hit by any means, but I imagine if it was given a serious push by a stronger label it probably could've done something. Just my thoughts on that. We'll see what Curb does with them though. I'm not really expecting Love and Theft to get any more hits and honestly I thought they were probably about 'done' when they got dropped by RCA, but who knows.

I think it's probably in their best interest to release a new single, but I guess you never know. I would imagine "Whiskey On My Breath" (great song as it is) has accomplished about all it's going to.

According to the BMLG website, Breaking Southwest is with the Nash Icon imprint and Midland is with Big Machine. I thought Nash Icon was an imprint for artists or music groups who made a significant mark in country music throughout their career as opposed to new artists. Also, despite having him as a Dot Recording artist on the charts and such, Tucker Beathard is still listed with Big Machine. Anyone know the reason why?

Show Dog's Regional Manager, Lisa Owen has joined Arista Nashville as their Mgr. of Regional Promotion.

Another sore spot in a plethora of past sore spots for what's left of Show Dog Nashville.

While not the best source, someone made edits to Black River's wikipedia page stating the only artist remaining on the roster is Kelsea Ballerini. Does anyone know if this is accurate, and if so, what the reason was behind the roster slashing. This is quite confusing because as late as Mar. 10 on Black River's Facebook, they were congratulating John King on his songwriting achievement for "We Went."

John King, Kellie Pickler and The Raging Idiots are still with Black River. I never take any label roster information on Wikipedia seriously. John King was just congratulated by the label for his co-writing "We Went." Kellie still is supporting her television show and The Raging Idiots just released their album The Critics Give It 5 Stars, with multiple songs under the Black River label credit charting on Mediabase's rolling chart.
