Martina's new Christmas album is up for pre-order now on iTunes! The label information is listed as such: "2018 Vinyl Recordings, Inc. under exclusive license This Is Hit, Inc. d/b/a/ Broken Bow Records".
The only thing I recognize from all that is that Vinyl Recordings is the same label on which she independently released Everlasting on a few years ago. I'm pretty sure I remember press about that being her own label that she had started. Does anybody know what everything else means? I thought we had just found out she was signed to BMG, but this lists Broken Bow, and I have never even heard of This Is Hit, whatever that is...

I thought we had just found out she was signed to BMG, but this lists Broken Bow, and I have never even heard of This Is Hit, whatever that is... I can clear up the confusion for you "This Is Hit, Inc." is simply another name for BBR Music Group (it's the label group's LLC name). BBRMG's parent company is BMG, which bought the label group in January 2017. BMG is different than the typical record label; BMG describes itself more as a rights management "music company" rather than a straight-up record label. They do own a number of labels, but BBR Music Group is the only country music label they own (fun fact: BMG used to own RCA Records, and then RCA became a subsidiary of Sony-BMG for a while before becoming wholly owned by Sony. This means that BMG's first success stories in Nashville were Alan Jackson and Kenny Chesney in the late 80s and early 90s, but BMG hasn't had a presence in Nashville for many years now, at least not until the beginning of last year when they purchased BBR Music Group). And of course you are correct that Vinyl Recordings is Martina's own label, and so the label information on iTunes essentially confirms that Martina has complete creative control over her career and that her deal with BMG is more of a partnership (these are the best kinds of deals possible for an artist). They likely listed Broken Bow Records as the label since, again, BMG now owns the BBR Music Group, but with BMG being more of parent company and not really a traditional label/label group, they probably had to 'assign' Martina's project to one of the labels they own, and Broken Bow is the only one that makes sense since BBRMG is the only country label that BMG owns. Hopefully that makes sense!

Hopefully that makes sense! The all-knowing jhomes87 saves the day yet again Haha thanks, but I did have some help from rsmatto a couple weeks back. I'm just so fascinated by record labels (seriously, this is my favorite thread on Pulse lol). I've been doing a lot of reading and research on BMG in the last few weeks because they're such a unique company. The company's actual name is BMG Rights Management, and what's really interesting to me is that the company essentially completely rebooted in 2008. Prior to that, BMG stood for Bertelsmann Music Group, but the original BMG only existed from 1986 to 2008 (in 2008 BMG sold all of its music interests to Sony Music Entertainment, and then did a complete reboot in 2009 as BMG Rights Management). The new BMG's headquarters are in Berlin, but they're an international company with many regional offices across Europe and Asia, and US offices in New York and Los Angeles, and they expanded into Nashville last year. BMG owns nearly a dozen music publishing companies now and a bunch of independent labels as well. Being purchased by BMG was probably the best thing that could have happened to BBR Music Group. #countrymusicnerd

Has anyone heard anything about Easton Corbin? Do you think he will land anywhere? It's been at least 6 months since he and Mercury separated, hasn't it?

While it doesn't show so on Black River's website, it does appear that Craig Morgan is no longer with them, as per MusicRow Magazine's Artist Roster issue, and BRE's Facebook page's "about" info.

The winner of the 2018 Nash Next competition is a friend of mine from college, Jessie Ritter! The winner of this competition wins a recording contract with Big Machine and substantial radio play from Cumulus! Radio Romance won this last year, but I don’t remember them ever charting or even releasing a song, but I hope Jessie will fare a bit better, ha! Todd O’Neill did see a decent amount of success the year before after winning though! www.wivk.com/2018/10/12/jessie-ritter-bests-more-than-800-artists-to-win-2018-nash-next-competition/

Eh I haven't really cared for any of his singles he's put out here in Canada. Probably my luck he'll catch on while other Canadian acts I've liked the last few years didn't.
ETA: From the article about Australian's in Nashville in tonight's Billboard update... "the Sydney-bred duo Seaforth — Mitch Thompson and Tom Jordan — is already signed to Sony Music Nashville after moving stateside in October 2017"

Too bad. Joe Nichols released only two albums and seven singles on Red Bow. Two of those singles hit the top of the chart.

Absolutely excited about this signing. Ryan has what it takes to be a mainstream star in the next few years. Country-pop, yes, but the writing's pretty good. "Drinkin' To Do" is a favorite. Real good ballad.

Billboard.com is reporting that Universal is making a $300 million bid for Big Machine Records. This will be incredibly interesting. Taylor Swift is a free agent in November, but at the moment a purchase of Big Machine would get you her masters. You could always sign her back, too. Plus, they got huge stars in Thomas Rhett and FGL under contract. Personally, I'd try to re-sign Taylor and keep rolling with their roster and not sell if I were Scott Borchetta, but that's easier said that done when I'm not the one on the receiving end of potentially $350 million.

I understand that Taylor Swift and her parents have a stake in Big Machine. If the label were to be sold and everything were to be split evenly, that means a payday from 75 million dollars to 87.5 million dollars. Not shabby at all.

If the sale goes through I wonder if Lady Antebellum will be happy considering they just left lol My guess is that Big Machine and its sister labels would still operate as a largely independent label group, but they just technically won't be an independent label anymore. In other words, although UMG would own BMLG, BMLG would still operate mostly the same as it does now, with the same staff, creative teams, etc.

The valuation hinges on BMLG maintaining ownership in the copyright and masters for Taylor catalog. If she negotiates ownership, the label is worth a lot less. If Scott sells, I expect him to remain the ceo and to sell to a financial equity company instead. Basically, turn it into another BMG.
