I'm super late to the Lana Del Rey train, but her album is really good. Florence is just... I dunno, there's something about her that irritates me. It's like her vibrato is uncontrollable and too pronounced to the point where I just can't enjoy her music.

Hmmmmm, I probably prefer Florence by a tad since her material was more instant for me. I've grown to really like Lana though.

I like her songs, but only when covered by other people. Her voice is obviously far superior to Lana's in technical terms, but I find it annoying.

Lana has a few good songs, but I can't think of anything she does that's on par with Florence.

Florence by so much that you can't even see Lana anymore.

I like Lana, but she hasn't proven to be anything other than one-note. Plus Ceremonial is better than Born to Die. Florence, quite easily.

at this poll. I'm not a huge fan of either, but the answer is clearly Florence.

Yeah, Lana is fairly talentless, IMO. Florence by an unspeakable amount....

Yeah, Lana is fairly talentless, IMO. No. Opinion or not, just NO. Incorrect, especially for someone used to the talent of the person in their avi.

^^ About a year or ago so, I was pleasantly surprised by how "different" she was in the music landscape based on her recording. After following many of her live performances, I realized how limited is she is as a vocalist and how poorly she translates live, which made me lose most of my interest in her.

So just because she might not be a good live performer she's talentless? What about her songwriting and the studio versions of her songs?

Lana, talentless? No. Absolutely not. She may not be the best live vocalist (although she has been improving as of late - I implore you to check out some of her recent concert videos), but she sounds great on record and she's a wonderful songwriter. Her album is flawless. I'd say it's pretty obvious who I voted for.

After many arguments, I have come to respect neally and their posts/opinions but to say somebody is talentless because they do not sing very well live is beyond ridiculous. There is more to talent than singing really well live.

You're right, there is more talent than singing well live, in fact I have to defend pop music to my friends all the time.
That being said, it's a lot easier to fake talent in the studio as well. That's what makes good pop music so intricate, you have to weave together different types of talents. This can be anything from looks to voice to studio production. Of course, a singer being able to sing well live is probably one of the more pronounced talents. Lana's problem is that she seems quite talentless all around, or at least has some element of plasticity that turns people off. She could have had minimal involvement in the project and the result would have been the same. Florence on the other hand is undoubtedly talented in many ways. I just can't see the comparison.

I usually don't care for either of their live voices all that much, but voted Florence. I do enjoy Lana too though.

I prefer Florence. I used to find her voice a bit jarring and unusual, but now I have grown to love it.
I do like some of Lana's music too.
