From Idol Chatter:
Phillip Phillips, Gone, Gone, Gone (56,000, -14%, 332,000)
GGG got it's first CHR add this week (small station in PA but it's a start).
Home has officially passed Stronger and is now the best selling single issued by a contestant from American Idol (not Canadian Idol ;0_

Not a bad sales drop at all. I think GGG will end up being another big hit for Phillip but without incentive$ Pop I suppose isn't in a hurry to latch onto something from an artist who's just had one other song out. Interscope is probably counting on it getting too big on other formats and in sales for Pop to keep ignoring and if it works that will really boost album sales for P² over a longer period of time.

They need to start pushing this on pop. It's doing well on Hot Ac and AAA (i think it's even on AC right now) and it's selling well, so it's time to get the second top 50 for Phillip. The most top 40 hits he get this era, the easier it will be the second one.

It just needs a good push to CHR now. And not a month from now.

The one benefit I think that this song has is that it's super instantaneous. I mean, does anyone really think this song is that much of a grower?
I think this is an even more obvious hit than Home. Terrific song, but it's pretty accessible and doesn't require anyone to take multiple listens to "get" it.

So it hasn't been pushed to Top 40 yet? Why not? He's losing momentum.

Maybe Interscope is thinking GGG will build in sales and airplay on other formats and become "too big to be ignored" by Pop, the way Home did? Or they're just waiting for it to get a little bigger on Hot AC first. It could be that they're willing to wait with making single #2 happen because the album doesn't have a surefire single #3...

Maybe, but after a hit like Home, i doubt pop radio will be as reluctant to play the song. Maybe it takes some time (like it happened to Lambert's If i had you) and at the end they will play the song, and GGG it's catchier than Home, so that must help. I think it's a mistake wait too long, and it will be a mistake not sending a third single (Adam Lambert is a good example of that too).

Ugh, so depressing, thinking about how the old regime totally derailed multiple Idol careers thanks to their utter mishandling of singles. But back to Phillip, if GGG somehow does have the shelf life of Home that would probably throw off whatever internal timetable Interscope might be using in mapping out how the era is supposed to go. They seem a little more flexible in that way than Sony ever was. But considering the potential Season 12 winners, I think Interscope will probably be eager to keep the Phillip train going as long as possible.

I doubt this will throw off any timetable for the era no matter what it does, since most of the time Idol's don't get anything past a 2nd single from their album. This will have to be a big hit, or otherwise I'm sure interscope is done with the era.

But that's absurd (yes i know they did it before, but in those cases the things weren't good for the release of the second album so they must learn something about it). I don't know why some record companies treat AI alums like some kind of second rate singers. They are able to sing (wich is far more than a lot of stars right now) and some of them have really talent, but it seems the only thing they want from them are fast sales with no promotion

Bigger push may come during his tour with John Mayer. I think I read about that somewhere anyway.

I wish they'd send this to CHR already. It's doing well enough on HAC and iTunes for a push there. Plus it's the Idol boot song and the label should take advantage of that.
I'm hoping P2 doesn't get hit with the one album and done curse that's been affecting almost all the male winners of this show.

That seems rather late but I'm not worried. It's clear Interscope wants GGG to be another Home and they're prizing longevity over a higher overall airplay peak. If it works there's a good chance he will have the best album sales from any male AI winner.
