Little known fact: In 1986, the working title to Thriller's follow-up was "Exciter". I kid you not. Exciter. I am very glad cooler heads (Quincy J's?) prevailed.

Musically? We all know he received criticism personally. ' Yeah, or professionally. For example, I often read about how the Beatles received a lot of criticism in their early days and in hindsight, we can look back at that as being incredibly silly, especially where people said they wouldn't last and guitars wouldn't last as central instruments in popular music. That sort of thing. Was there anything that was prevalent in MJ's solo music, or with Thriller, that often popped up as a criticism that we can look back at and say it played an important part of what made him and the album among the biggest ever?
