Since this is an official article with a link to the original source, I don't think the SS police can complain. www.billboard.biz/bbbiz/industry/record-labels/where-does-adele-s-21-rank-in-the-best-selling-1008031482.storyWhere Does Adele's '21' Rank in the Best-Selling Albums of Nielsen SoundScan Era? November 29, 2012 | By Keith Caulfield ( keith_caulfield) Adele's "21" joins a rare group of albums this week, as the XL/Columbia set soars past the 10-million U.S. sales mark, according to Nielsen SoundScan. It becomes one of only 21 titles to reach that rare threshold since SoundScan started tracking sales in 1991. "21" ran to 10 million in only its 92nd week of release. The last set to hit 10 million faster was 'N Sync's "No Strings Attached," which hit the number in its 43rd frame in January of 2001. So, "21" is the 21st album to sell 10 million. And thus, it becomes the 21st-biggest album of the SoundScan era. Clearly, 21 is a very lucky number for the pop diva. In a statement released by Columbia Records, Adele said, "What an incredible honour. A huge, huge thank you to my American fans for embracing this record on such a massive level." "21" debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 dated March 12, 2011 and spent 24 non-consecutive weeks atop the tally -- the most in the SoundScan era. It hasn't left the chart's top 40 since, earning 80 weeks in the top 10. This week, the set moves 31-35. Since 1991, the highest selling album -- according to SoundScan -- is Metallica's self-titled 1991 release, which has moved 15.8 million. Shania Twain's "Come On Over" is in second place with 15.5 million and Alanis Morissette's "Jagged Little Pill" is in third with 14.8 million. Below is a list of all the albums have have sold more than 10 million in the U.S. according to SoundScan (and thus, the top selling albums since 1991). This is probably OK since it is published
This was the exact topic that got the interest from the Soundscan lawyers and the thread ultimately deleted by Proboards and a warning issued to me.
So hopefully nobody goes crazy in here and posts real numbers

Adele will take down Linkin Park and Usher next week/next two weeks and should jump past Hootie in the next 2-3 months. I could see her ultimately challenging the top 10 of this list.
If 21 overtakes No Strings Attached, it'll be the 2nd best selling album of the new millenium and the 4th best selling female album of the soundscan era (3rd if you count The Bodyguard as a soundtrack).

^Adele has to sell 260k in sales to pass Hootie. It's going to take a while. Overall sales will plummet in January.

www.billboard.com/articles/news/1549354/pearl-jams-ten-album-hits-10-million-in-us-salesPearl Jam's 'Ten' Album Hits 10 Million in U.S. Sales Landmark album is the 22nd full-length to reach 10 million sales in the SoundScan era. Pearl Jam's landmark debut album "Ten" becomes the latest addition to the 10 million-sellers club in the U.S. This week, the 1991 Epic Records release surpasses the 10 million U.S. sales mark according to Nielsen SoundScan, making it the 22nd album to reach the threshold since the company began tracking data in 1991. In the week ending Feb. 17, the album sold nearly 4,000 copies (up 159% over the previous week). That brings its total sales to about 1,000 over 10 million. It is the fourth album to hit 10 million U.S. sales since the start of 2012. In that span of time, "Ten" follows Linkin Park's "Hybrid Theory," Usher's "Confessions" and Adele's blockbuster "21." "21" now stands as the No. 15 best-selling album of the SoundScan era, with 10.4 million sold. It is currently about 186,000 copies behind Britney Spears' "Baby One More Time," which is in 14th place. It should be a while before another album crosses the 10 million mark. While we had a quick succession of albums hit 10 million in the last year, the next-closest album to 10 million is still 400,000 copies away: Celine Dion's "Let's Talk About Love" (9.6 million). At the present, the album is selling well below 1,000 copies a week. Since 1991, the highest selling album -- according to SoundScan -- is Metallica's self-titled 1991 release, which has moved 15.86 million. Shania Twain's "Come On Over" is in second place with 15.53 million and Alanis Morissette's "Jagged Little Pill" is in third with 14.82 million.
In fourth place is Backstreet Boys' "Millennium" (12.21 million), followed by the Beatles' "1" (12.16 million), "The Bodyguard" soundtrack (12.06 million), Santana's "Supernatural" (11.73 million), Creed's "Human Clay" (11.64 million) and Bob Marley and the Wailers' "Legend" (11.26 million) at Nos. 5-9.

if singles were included Mariah would be on top since Garth did not release singles in his day.

Garth Brooks has sold only a couple hundred albums over the course of the last several years. This is because none of his albums are available for purchase, they have all been pulled from the market. If they were available, adding singles into Mariah's total still would not matter much.

It's weird that Garth Brooks is still #1 considering his albums aren't even selling anymore. He really sold a lot in his heyday. Unless The Beatles pass him in the next decade or so, I don't see anyone passing him any time soon. It's amazing that The Beatles may end up being #1 eventually considering they had disbanded over 20 years before the start of SoundScan.

7/13 Billboard charts: music.yahoo.com/blogs/chart-watch/week-ending-june-30-2013-albums-hip-hop-152636706.htmlAlan Jackson this week becomes just the ninth artist to top 40 million in sales since 1991, when Nielsen SoundScan began tracking sales for Billboard. (This misses Jackson’s first year of success. Jackson’s debut album, Here In The Real World, hit the country and pop and charts in March 1990.) Jackson’s best-selling album is 1995’s The Greatest Hits Collection, which has sold 5,807,000 copies. How big is country music? Four of the nine artists who have hit 40M in Nielsen SoundScan-era sales are country: Garth Brooks 68,634,00 George Strait 44,440,000 Tim McGraw 41,599,000 Alan Jackson 40,000,000

That puts him in third place among rappers, behind Eminem ( 42,307,000) and 2Pac ( 29,010,000). So in this coming week, he’ll surpass 2Pac, who was shot to death in September 1996. So 21 is now #13 and the 3rd best selling album of the 21st century, behind NSYNC and Norah Jones. It is #6 among all female albums (including The Bodyguard, behind Shania Twain, Alanis Morissette, Whitney Houston, Norah Jones and Celine Dion.

Week Ending Oct. 13, 2013. Albums: Miley Bangs Out A #1 By Paul Grein
Mariah Carey's 2005 album The Emancipation Of Mimi tops the 6 million mark in U.S. sales this week. The album was #1 for two weeks and received a Grammy nomination for Album of the Year.
This is Carey's third album to be certified at the 6 million mark. It follows Daydream (7,657,000) and Music Box (7,277,000).
Carey has two other albums on Nielsen SoundScan's running list of the 200 best-selling albums in its history: Merry Christmas (5,299,000) and Mariah Carey (4,885,000). (The latter album, Carey's 1990 debut, sold additional copies prior to Nielsen SoundScan's 1991 launch.)
Carey is the only female solo artist with five albums on Nielsen SoundScan's top 200 list.
How about Celine Dion? She currently has four. The Colour Of My Love has sold 4,558,000 copies, which puts it 10K copies short of making the list.

11/9 BB200: music.yahoo.com/blogs/chart-watch/week-ending-oct-27-2013-albums-katy-perry-151049350.htmlPearl Jam’s Lightning Bolt dips from #1 to #2. As you know, last week it became the band's fifth #1 album. That's one more #1 album than Nirvana had. That trio had four #1 albums between 1992 and 1996. These two bands were the leaders of the Seattle-based alternative rock scene which rocked the music business in the early 1990s. Pearl Jam is also ahead of its one-time rivals in overall album sales, according to Nielsen SoundScan. Pearl Jam has sold 31,785,000 albums. Nirvana has sold 26,410,000.

11/9 BB200: music.yahoo.com/blogs/chart-watch/week-ending-oct-27-2013-albums-katy-perry-151049350.htmlTLC's 20 vaults from #72 to #12 in its second week. The surge is due to VH1's biopic, CrazySexyCool: The TLC Story, which drew 4.5 million viewers in its first airing. That made it the highest-rated cable movie of the year. The show was named after the trio's sophomore album, which re-enters the chart at #108. It has sold 7,495,000 copies. Only two albums by all-female groups have sold more copies in the Nielsen SoundScan era. And they're both by the same group—Dixie Chicks. (There's that country base again.) Wide Open Spaces, the Chicks' first major-label album, has sold 8,841,000 copies. Fly, its second, has sold 8,396,000. Next in line, after CrazySexyCool, are Spice Girls' debut album, Spice ( 7,453,000), and Destiny's Child's sophomore album, Writing's On The Wall ( 6,347,000).
