www.billboard.com/news#/news/alica-keys-earns-fifth-no-1-album-on-billboard-1008037752.storyAlica Keys Earns Fifth No. 1 Album on Billboard 200 Chartby Keith Caulfield, L.A. | December 05, 2012 Alicia Keys crowns the Billboard 200 chart for the fifth time in her career, as her latest album "Girl On Fire" debuts atop the list with 159,000 sold according to Nielsen SoundScan. Keys previously led the list with her first four albums (three studio sets and a live release). Her last album, 2009's "The Element of Freedom," launched at No. 2 with 417,000. Its hefty sales were buoyed by its week-before Christmas release date (Dec. 15). However, it was blocked from No. 1 by Susan Boyle's "I Dreamed a Dream," which was in its fourth week at No. 1 (with 661,000). "Girl On Fire's" launch is the smallest of any Keys album -- falling lower than that of her 2005 "Unplugged" set (196,000). That said, "Girl On Fire's" start is what industry sources had forecasted a week ago, when insiders suggested it would bow with about 145,000 to 170,000. One forecast that didn't pan out was that of Rod Stewart's "Merry Christmas, Baby" posing a threat to Keys' No. 1 debut. It sold 117,000 last week -- down less than 1% -- and rises 6-3. The album climbs as its sales decline is relatively mild compared to those found on the rest of the chart. As the new Billboard 200 reflects the week after the Thanksgiving holiday shopping weekend, the bulk of the titles on the chart see steep declines. (Sales are always down the week after what's generally one of the busiest shopping weeks of the year. This week, album volume fell by 23%.) For example, in the top 100 this week, not counting debut and reentries, only 13 albums post a gain. Thus, a number of albums with drops in sales move up the chart: the "Now 44" set jumps 15-11, though it's down 28%, while Scott McCreery's "Christmas With Scotty McCreery" leaps 21-12, despite an 18% decline. Starting next week we should see most of the titles on the chart stabilize and see increasingly larger gains as we march towards Christmas. Back on this week's chart, Alicia Keys' "Girl On Fire" is the lone debut in the entire top 20. The chart's second-highest entry is way down at No. 29, where Timeflies' "One Night" EP bows with 24,000. In the top 10, Taylor Swift's "Red" is steady at No. 2 (137,000; down 26%), One Direction's "Take Me Home" slips 3-4 (92,000; down 48%) and Phillip Phillips' "The World From the Side of the Moon" moves 4-5 (74,000; down 56%). Rihanna's first No. 1 album, "Unapologetic," slides to No. 6 with 77,000 (down 70%) in its second week. Michael Buble's "Christmas" rebounds 16-7 with 66,000 (up 24%), marking the 2011 set's first visit to the top 10 since it wrapped a five-week run at No. 1 on the chart dated Jan. 7. Lady Antebellum's "On This Winter's Night" also rises, moving 19-8 with 59,000 (up 13%) as does Blake Shelton's holiday effort "Cheers, It's Christmas" (18-9 with 53,000; up 1%). Rounding out the top 10 is Kid Rock's "Rebel Soul," dipping 5-10 in its second week (46,000; down 68%). Over on the Digital Songs chart, we have a new No. 1, as will.i.am's "Scream & Shout" (featuring Britney Spears), jumps from No. 66 to the top with 196,000 downloads sold (up 483%). The song debuted on last week's tally with five days of sales, as it was released on Nov. 21. The newest chart data reflects its first full sales week (ending Dec. 2), along with impact felt from its music video's premiere on "The X Factor" (Nov. 28). "Scream & Shout" is will.i.am's second No. 1 on the Digital Songs chart as a solo artist (but first as a lead), following his featured turn on Usher's "OMG" in 2010. He's also notched five leaders as a member of the Black Eyed Peas. For Spears, it's her seventh No. 1 on the eight year old tally. Bumped out of the top slot on Digital Songs is PSY's "Gangnam Style," which falls to No. 2 with 143,000 (down 37%). Alica Keys' "Girl On Fire" benefits from its parent album's release and a performance on "The X Factor" (Nov. 29), as it rockets 17-3 with 140,000 (up 72%). In the No. 4 slot is the chart's highest debut, 50 Cent's "My Life" (featuring Eminem and Adam Levine), which starts with 140,000. 50 and Levine performed the track live last week on NBC's "The Voice" (Nov. 26). Bruno Mars' "Locked Out of Heaven" is stationary at No. 5 (135,000; down 10%), the Lumineers' "Ho Hey" rises 7-6 (127,000; up 1%) and Ke$ha's "Die Young" falls 4-7 (122,000; down 19%). Rihanna's "Diamonds" tumbles 2-8 (just over 122,000; down 31%), Phillip Phillip's "Home" descends 6-9 (118,000; down 10%) and Flo Rida's "I Cry" slides 8-10 (96,000; down 18%). Overall album sales in this past chart week (ending Dec. 2) totaled 7.52 million units, down 23% compared with the sum last week (9.74 million) and down 7% compared with the comparable sales week of 2011 (8.06 million). Year-to-date album sales stand at 275.31 million, down 4% compared with the same total at this point last year (286.78 million). Digital track sales this past week totaled 22.15 million downloads, down 8% compared with last week (24.06 million) and up 7% stacked next to the comparable week of 2011 (20.67 million). Year-to-date track sales are at 1.209 billion, up 6% compared with the same total at this point last year (1.142 billion). Next week's Billboard 200 competes with the same week in 2011 when: Michael Buble's "Christmas" led the chart for a third week (479,000; up 64%) while the Black Keys' "El Camino" arrived at No. 2 with 206,000.

Albums: Good Week Or Bad For Keys? By Paul Grein | Chart Watch – 11 minutes ago Alicia Keys' Girl On Fire enters The Billboard 200 at #1. It's Keys' fifth #1 album out of six releases. Here's the odd part: Girl On Fire puts Keys back at #1 even though it sold less than half of what her last album, The Element Of Freedom, sold when it debuted and peaked at #2 in December 2009. Girl On Fire sold 159K this week. The Element Of Freedom sold 417K when it bowed. That album had the misfortune of debuting when there was a phenomenon at #1. Susan Boyle's I Dreamed A Dream sold 661K in its fourth week at #1. This is the slowest start to date for a Keys album. It sold even fewer copies than Keys' Unplugged album sold (196K) in its first week in October 2005. Of course, overall sales aren't as healthy as they were in 2005. Here a positive note for Keys: The title track (featuring Nicki Minaj) is shaping up as a big hit. It surges from #17 to #3 on this week's Hot Digital Songs chart. Only two other female R&B (or pop/R&B crossover) artists have five or more #1 albums. Mariah Carey and Janet Jackson have each had six. (Disclaimers: Beyonce has also had six #1 albums if you combine her solo and Destiny's Child albums. And of course all of these artists transcend R&B, but the music industry is built on categories.) Girl On Fire sold 56K digital copies, which puts it at #1 on Top Digital Albums. Christmas albums are helping the music industry keep the lights on this holiday season. There are a whopping 78 Christmas albums on this week's Billboard 200, up from 49 last week. There are four Christmas albums in this week's top 10. It's the first time that has happened in 20 years. Rod Stewart's Merry Christmas, Baby jumps from #6 to #3 (matching its highest ranking to date), Michael Buble's Christmas rebounds from #16 to #7, Lady Antebellum's On This Winter's Night rebounds from #19 to #8 (a new peak) and Blake Shelton's Cheers, It's Christmas jumps from #18 to #9 (breaking into the top 10 for the first time). The last time four holiday albums appeared in the top 10 at the same time was in December 1992. Amy Grant's Home For Christmas was #7, A Very Special Christmas 2 was #8, Neil Diamond's The Christmas Album was #9 and Garth Brooks' Beyond The Season was #10. (Rod Stewart was 47 in December 1992, but he apparently thought, "No, not yet. Maybe in 20 years.") Brooks went on to land a second top 10 Christmas album, Garth Brooks & The Magic Of Christmas, in 1999. Will Stewart also be a Christmas repeater? Given his five volumes of Great American Standards, I'm going to say yes. Buble's album, the top Christmas album of 2011, is #1 on Top Catalog Albums for the fifth week. The album has sold 393K digital copies, more than any other holiday album. It's one of only two Christmas albums that are included on Nielsen SoundScan's running list of the 100 best-selling digital albums of all time. The other is Vince Guaraldi Trio's 1965 classic A Charlie Brown Christmas, which has sold 308K digital copies. Taylor Swift's Red holds at #2 for the third straight week. It's #1 on Top Country Albums for the sixth week. The album is #2 for the year-to-date. Adele received a lot of well-deserved attention last week when 21 topped the 10 million mark in sales. But she did something else last week that was also remarkable: Her music video Live At Royal Albert Hall topped the 1 million mark in sales. It's the first music video to sell 1 million copies since Garth Brooks' 2007 hit The Ultimate Hits, and that was a CD/DVD hybrid. What was the last music video that was not a CD/DVD hybrid to sell 1 million copies? Eagles' Farewell Tour: Live From Melbourne, which came out in June 2005. (It has sold 1,549,000 copies.) Adele and Eagles are both mass appeal artists. Both are Grammy winners for Record of the Year (he said, on the day the Grammy nominations will be announced). One Direction's Take Me Home dips to #4 in its third week. The album has sold 808K copies, which puts it at #12 for the year-to-date. The quintet has two albums in the top 15 for the year-to-date. Up All Night ranks #3. No other act has two albums in the top 15 for the year-to-date. Adele has two of the top 20. In addition, Up All Night—The Live Tour logs its 24thweek at #1 on Top Music Videos. This ties Adele's Live At The Royal Albert Hall, which spent 24 weeks at #1 from December 2011 to May 2012. The last music video to have a longer run at #1 was Pink Floyd's Pulse, which spent a total of 25 weeks at #1 from June 1995 to October 2006. (All three acts are British.) "Scream & Shout" by will.i.am featuring Britney Spears vaults from #66 to #1 on Hot Digital Songs, displacing PSY's "Gangnam Style." "Scream & Shout" is the seventh career #1 on Hot Digital Songs for both will.i.am and Spears. For will.i.am, it follows five chart-toppers as a member of the Black Eyed Peas and one with Usher ("OMG," on which he was featured). How high will "Scream & Shout" debut on the Hot 100? You'll find out later today when we post Chart Watch: Songs. Here's the low-down on this week's top 10 albums. The Top Five: Alicia Keys' Girl On Fire debuts at #1 (159K). It's Keys' fifth #1 album; her sixth to make the top 10…Taylor Swift's Red holds at #2 for the third week in its sixth week (137K). This is its sixth week in the top 10...Rod Stewart's Merry Christmas, Baby jumps from #6 to #3 in its fifth week (117K). This is its fifth week in the top 10… One Direction's Take Me Home dips from #3 to #4 in its third week (92K). This is its third week in the top 10…Phillip Phillips' The World From The Side Of The Moon dips from #4 to #5 in its second week (74K). The Second Five: Rihanna's Unapologetic drops from #1 to #6 in its second week (72K)…Michael Buble's Christmas rebounds from #16 to #7 in its 16th week (66K). This is its 10th week in the top 10…Lady Antebellum's On This Winter's Night rebounds from #19 to #8 in its sixth week (59K). This is its second week in the top 10…Blake Shelton's Cheers, It's Christmas jumps from #18 to #9 in its eighth week (53K). This is Shelton's sixth top 10 album…Kid Rock's Rebel Soul drops from #5 to #11 in its second week (46K). Four albums drop out of the top 10 this week (but they all stay in the top 20. You will not see the word "plummet" in this paragraph.) P!nk's The Truth About Love drops from #7 to #13, Jason Aldean's Night Train drops from #8 to #14, Led Zeppelin's Celebration Day drops from #9 to #17 and Keyshia Cole's Woman To Woman drops from #10 to #15. Timeflies' One Night EP debuts at #29. It's the electro-pop act's first chart album. This is the week's second highest new entry, after Alicia Keys' Girl On Fire. It edges out Glee: The Music, Season 4, Volume 1, which debuts at #33. Is Glee over as a potent record selling force? It's sure getting there. The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn, Part 2 drops from #24 to #30 in its third week. It's #1 on Top Soundtracks for the third week. The movie was #1 at the box-office for the third weekend in a row. Coming Attractions: Wiz Khalifa's O.N.I.F.C. and Ke$ha's Warrior are expected to be next week's top new entries. Also due: Florida Georgia Line's Here's To The Good Times, Chevelle's Stray Arrows: A Collection Of Favorites, Hinder's Welcome To The Freakshow, Paloma Faith's Fall To Grace and Gavin McGraw's Sweeter Live CD/DVD.

30. Cee Lo Green, Cee Lo's Magic Moment: 21,000 (47,000) Woo good numbers for Cee Lo! Hits DD had Cee lo below Pitbull at #35 with 18,300. I hope Pitbull's numbers on Soundscand are higher as well.

Is that soundScan top 100 digital album list ever been posted? would love to see it. #2. That is impressive for Adele to move 1 million units. The Blu-Ray version has never been under $16.99 and that was just for a week during the holidays last year. It's pretty much been $19.99+ everywhere ever since. People are paying a lot for that. Shows her star power!

The list is paid, for subscribers only.
The entire top 200 list leaked not so long ago (maybe two months ago) in the Internet, however. We can't post it here, though. You'll have to look on other places.

^Thanks for posting. Physical sales more than double that of digital- good to see (even if that ratio is just temporary, given the time of year).

Congrats to ONJ and John Travolta on the #165 entry for This Christmas.
ONJ still looks great for her age and doesn't have to cater to the kids (or sleep with them for that matter) to maintain a career.

www.billboard.biz/bbbiz/industry/record-labels/chart-moves-rod-stewart-vs-michael-buble-1008043092.story Chart Moves: Rod Stewart Vs. Michael Buble: A Tale of Two Christmas Albums December 07, 2012 | By Keith Caulfield The Billboard 200: One lone new entry graced the chart this week -- Alicia Keys' "Girl On Fire," which bowed at No. 1 with 159,000 sold. It was the R&B super star's fifth No. 1 on the tally. Two steps below Keys this week is Rod Stewart's "Merry Christmas, Baby," which rose 6-3 with 117,000 sold (down less than 1% compared to the previous week). While the pop icon's set still seems like a sure thing to be the season's biggest holiday album, it might not rise to blockbuster status, a la Michael Buble's unstoppable "Christmas" set from 2011. "Merry Christmas, Baby" has moved 475,000 so far -- well ahead of the No. 2 holiday seller this year, Lady Antebellum's "On This Winter's Night" (217,000). However, a year ago at this time, Michael Buble's "Christmas" had already sold a million copies -- twice as much as Stewart's "Merry." Meanwhile, the No. 2 seller at that point, Justin Bieber's "Under the Mistletoe," had sold more than three times (674,000) what this year's second-largest seller has moved. Can Stewart pull it together and move some major units between now and Christmas? Sure. But since he already did a smattering of fairly high profile TV appearances last week (which didn't spark a gain), there's cause for concern. During the current chart's tracking week, his new PBS special debuted (Nov. 26) while he performed on NBC's "The Voice" (Nov. 27), "Christmas in Rockefeller Center" (Nov. 28), "Today" (Nov. 29) and "Live With Kelly & Michael" (Nov. 30). It would be fascinating to see if Buble's "Christmas" -- which was last year's second-biggest-selling album overall behind Adele's "21" -- can stage a comeback this season. This week, it rallies 16-7 on the Billboard 200, selling 66,000 (up 24%). It's the first holiday album to return to the top 10 after its initial season since the Billboard 200 lifted its ban on catalog albums in late 2009. Buble's second NBC Christmas special, "Home for the Holidays," will premiere Dec. 10 and feature guest stars Stewart, Blake Shelton, Carly Rae Jepsen and a virtual duet with Bing Crosby. An encore airing of "Home for the Holidays" is set for Dec. 21. A year ago, his "A Michael Buble Christmas" special earned 7 million viewers in its debut on Dec. 6, according to Nielsen. Also on Dec. 10 this year, Buble will guest on "The Voice," one week after he performed on "Today." AND IN OTHER NEWS: Let's look at some of the movers and shakers outside the top 10 . . . -- Christina Aguilera: After three weeks, her "Lotus" album has shifted 140,000. That's eclipsed by the 169,000 that her last studio set, "Bionic," moved in its first three stanzas. This week, "Lotus" slips from No. 17 to No. 47, selling 15,000 (down 72%). -- Future & Rage Against the Machine: Albums from both acts reenter the chart this week after they were reissued with bonus tracks and extra material. Future's "Pluto" was bolstered with three new songs and two remixes. In turn, it comes back to the list at No. 75 with 11,000 sold (up 136%). One of its freshly remixed cuts, "Neva End," rises 26-22 on Mainstream R&B/Hip-Hop this week. As for Rage Against the Machine, the band marked the 20th anniversary of its self-titled debut album by reissuing it with a bonus CD and two DVDs. It sold 8,000 last week and returns to the list (No. 102) for the first time since 1995, up by 1,119%. -- James Taylor: First released in 2006 on Columbia, his "James Taylor at Christmas" album was recently rereleased by UMe this year with a handful of additional cuts. This week, with a 26% sales gain, it reenters the chart at No. 103. -- "Elf" soundtrack: The movie soundtrack has become an annual go-to gift for those looking for holiday music. Since its release in 2003, it has sold 600,000 copies. (This week, it returns to the Billboard 200 at No. 113, selling 7,000 with a 25% gain). In 2011 alone it moved 63,000 -- up compared to the 44,000 it sold in 2010.
