You literally brought up democrats and trafficking. If you didn’t want conservatives to side with you, why literally bring up the one thing they use to bait people, as opposed to like, so many issues? This might be a difficult concept for some to grasp, but what if I told you it was possible he just... doesn't like either of the two parties and made a song called "Rich Men North of Richmond" to describe... the rich elites that run the country in Washington D.C., a city directly north of Richmond. The fact that Conservatives tried to glob onto it doesn't make it a right-leaning song. There's been plenty of politicians who got cease-and-desist letters from musicians over the years for playing songs at campaign rallies that they didn't get permission to use and the artists in question responded by being like "hold up, I didn't agree to this."

All I'm saying is, he brought up certain topics that feel like the same bait one of those groups have used to literally fearmonger people into siding with them, and then there's the fat-shaming (edit: Let me add, those on welfare too) in the song as well. Like I'll admit, I guess this guy is more believable with his claims than Aldean's ass, but I still don't think it was the wisest choice bringing these up, and what doesn't help is these being the ONLY things he brings up in the song.

Not sure the fat-shaming is some Conservative talking point. Pretty sure at this point it's well-known that there's a lot more obese people in traditionally red states like Mississippi than blue states like Oregon. And the opening verse about working his life away to barely make ends meet sounds like something more likely to be opined by a Liberal-leaning millennial lamenting the flawed system of Capitalism in this country, at least that's been my experience as being in that group and having most of my friends also be in that group... Republicans are always like "don't like the pay, get a better job. EASY!" I don't think it's some piece of amazing songwriting by any means, but the political discourse over the song just seems odd to me because it feels pretty straightforward in a "I don't like ANY of them" kind of way, right down to the title. The political divide in the country has become extremely over the top in the past decade or so, but the reality is the average American isn't hard-left or hard-right and I'd wager that a majority of them generally think that Washington D.C. is not working for the average joe schmoe.

Blaming overweight ( usually black) people for scamming welfare is a conservative trope going all the way back to Reagan, at least.

Blaming overweight ( usually black) people for scamming welfare is a conservative trope going all the way back to Reagan, at least. I disagree. It's a trope in many European countries too actually which historically haven't been conservative, and have tiny black populations. It's something that actually happens. Some able-bodied, mentally healthy, capable-to-work people go on welfare their entire lives and eat junk food and watch TV. Despite many people claiming this never happens, the truth is people like this DO exist, it happens in all countries, and it's a bad thing no matter your political affiliation. If you are supportive of welfare you should not want this to be happening. As said in the song, there are homeless people dying on the street who maybe would love nothing more than to have the opportunity to work and a house to live in. Then you have people with a house to live in and the opportunity to work and they decide to abuse the system to the detriment of others. That's not the point of welfare. Welfare is supposed to be temporary thing meant to help keep you alive if you lose your job while you are looking for work, or for disabled people who literally can't work at all. Also, bread and rice and soup are usually much cheaper than junk food, if you're trying to live on a minimal budget, so that can't be used as an excuse.

I don’t care what color you are, if you’re obese and are using welfare to buy unhealthy food ( which is ridiculous that you’re even allowed to)then you deserve to be shamed. I’ve been to the supermarket where I’ve seen people buy Soda, Chips, pop tarts….ect using a food stamp card.

I'd say let's stop shaming people for trying to enjoy life using whatever minimal means they have and let's start focusing on the fact that the problem lies with rich people hoarding the money and having too much control over how much the lower class can make.

I'd say let's stop shaming people for trying to enjoy life using whatever minimal means they have and let's start focusing on the fact that the problem lies with rich people hoarding the money and having too much control over how much the lower class can make. Nobody should be allowed to buy junk food with welfare. Nobody should have to be on welfare, but since we (read: corporations) don’t want to pay living wages, many individuals and families have to be. 75% of welfare users still work jobs and yet cannot afford to fully care for themselves and their families. So I don’t I think it’s fair to say people shouldn’t be allowed to ever buy junk food if they are on welfare. Sure there are some people on welfare who are probably taking advantage of the system, but those people are nowhere close to being in the majority and having popular culture like this song further perpetuate an alternative reality that all obese people milk welfare, whether you deem that political or not, is at the very least offensive and incorrect. I don’t think you could find a single person in the US that would claim the welfare system is perfect, but claiming that letting obese people buy unhealthy snacks through government welfare is the equivalent of this country kicking hard-working young men down to the point they DIE is the biggest farce of a narrative I’ve ever heard. If people like this random hick would stop judging people and realize that people like him who have been “workin all day, overtime hours for bullshit pay” and the people on welfare are literally in the same boat (if not one and the same) with the government letting them down in favor of big corporations then maybe we’d be able to make some progress in this country.

Also the problem is rich people. Strip them of their bones to save your fellow man.

Nobody should be allowed to buy junk food with welfare. Change your perspective. No rich people and corporations should be allowed to do half the shit they do. Stop focusing on what poor people are doing to try to get one kernel of enjoyment out of life and start paying attention to what the rich do to make sure they stay rich at the expense of the poor.

Stop focusing on what poor people are doing to try to get one kernel of enjoyment out of life and start paying attention to what the rich do to make sure they stay rich at the expense of the poor. If a rich person or corporation is doing something illegal then I 100% support going after them. The problem is that both the Republicans and Democrats in office make laws and loopholes for them. No argument from me there that everyone should be paying taxes and when companies like Amazon pay nothing that is 100% wrong. When it comes to middle class and lower class ppl not getting better financially a lot…not all has to do with choices they’ve made and lifestyles they live. How many people that say they live paycheck to paycheck have the latest iPhone? Get Starbucks everyday, drive a brand new vehicle with $700 monthly payments? Now I’m not by any means saying that everybody does that but a big chunk does. These people need to sit down and write a budget and learn what’s a want and what’s a need. If you make $2500 a month and have $800 car payment and $1200 rent….You need to retake a math class or get a better job or 2nd job. And lastly yes working for Walmart for $13 an hour sucks! I agree 100%!! Should Walmart pay workers more and provide them benefits yes They should. Do I want the government to force a private business to do that …No. Instead of demanding Walmart pay better why not try and better yourself and get a better paying job. There is a gas station here in the south called Bucces and their starting pay is $20 an hour. The Chik fil a by my house starting pay at $19.50. Nationwide there is a huge shortage of bus drivers with some districts starting pay at $30+ an hour. Those are just 3 jobs off the top of my head that I can think of. The world isn’t fair. I myself work 3 jobs not because I have to but because I’m young and I’m raking in as much money as I can to have for retirement / Savings.
