ONE-DAYS: IT'S TOMLIN, AND THAT'S THE TRUTH Christian Contemporary Act Could Hit #1 Next Week; Hollywood Undead, Black Veil Brides Among Other Debuts
January 9, 2013
It's entirely possible that Christian contemporary aritst Chris Tomlin could score the #1 spot next week with his sixsteps/Sparrow release Burning Lights, which looks set for at 60-65k bow. Does any current release have a prayer of surpassing him on next week's chart? Uh, ask us later. What about the week's other debuts? We're glad you asked. Hollywood Undead (A&M/Octone) should scare up 50-55k, while Black Veil Brides (Republic) are expected to conjure 45-50k. Celt-punk stalwarts Dropkick Murphys (Dropkick Murphys) are on track for a mosh-worthy 28-33k, while Conor Maynard (Capitol) is looking to start in the 12-15k range.
Stay tuned for more numbers and boldfaced names very soon. Love you. Mean it.

The way they wrote this, it is possible Mumford, Taylor Swift or Les Miserables or something else could be #1

I think Les Miz could get the #1... it'll have both the Golden Globe awards & the Oscar nominations in its' favor.

Chris Tomlin, Hollywood Undead Headed for Top of Billboard 200 Chart January 09, 2013 | By Keith Caulfield ( keith_caulfield), Los Angeles Next week's Billboard 200 chart could see Chris Tomlin earn his first No. 1 album. The singer/songwriter's new album, "Burning Lights," may sell upwards of 60,000 to 70,000 copies by week's end on Jan. 13, according to industry forecasters. If "Burning Lights" arrives atop the list, it would mark the second No. 1 debut from a Christian album in less than a year and only the fourth Christian set to ever be No. 1. Last September, tobyMac started at No. 1 with "Eye On It." The new Billboard 200 chart's top 10 will be revealed on the morning of Jan. 16. Tomlin's last studio album, "And If Our God Is For Us…" debuted and peaked at No. 17 in 2010 off a start of 45,000, according to Nielsen SoundScan. He's reached the top 10 once, when 2008's "Hello Love" bowed and peaked at No. 8. Tomlin's best sales week so far was registered when "Glory in the Highest: Christmas Songs of Worship," moved 63,000 over Thanksgiving week in 2010. With few major new albums arriving to market in the first half of January, a fairly small sales figure can enable a high debut on the Billboard 200. For example, this past week's No. 1, the "Les Miserables" film soundtrack, topped the list with 92,000. It's too early to tell what "Les Miserables" will see this coming week, so don't rule out a possible second week at No. 1. Aside from Tomlin's "Burning Lights," other new albums that are aiming for a top 10 debut next week include Hollywood Undead's "Notes From the Underground" and Black Veil Brides' "Wretched and Divine: The Story of the Wild Ones." The rock band's respective titles are likely to sell around 50,000 and 45,000. Only 12-15k for Conor? I guess I shouldn't have expected much considering he's not very big here, but the album's pretty good.

Thought Black Veil Brides were about to sell a bit more, they have some sort of hype going on.

It would be pretty cool if Les Misérables was able to stay at number one with increased sales. When was the last time that happened?

I thought those numbers were actually good? lol He has no hit or much promo, so I wasn't expecting it to do much, if anything. I think his itunes advert is responsible for it selling tbh. Hopefully "Turn Around" will continue to rise up on POP and become and hit. It's a great song.

I like Conor's new cd and have been waiting for it to come out since "Can't Say No" However he hasn't even gotten a raido hit yet so I wouldn't expect him to sell much. He was on Letterman Mon. night. He sang "Turn Around" by himself. He was ok.

YOUR TOP 15: Lord have mercy! It's looking like Christian Contemporary artist (not contemporary Christian, as previously reported) Chris Tomlin will debut at #1 on next week's chart, as the Top 3 albums are all new releases. We're hoping that our coverage of Chris' chart success will help keep us from getting struck by lightning, at least for another week. Here's how it looks headed into the weekend:
* Chris Tomlin (sixsteps/Sparrow) 70-75k * Hollywood Undead (A&M/Octone) 50-55k * Black Veil Brides (Republic) 45-50k Les Misérables (Republic) 45-50k Taylor Swift (Big Machine) 45-50k Bruno Mars (Atlantic) 35-40k Pitch Perfect (UMe) 35-40k Lumineers (Dualtone) 30-35k * Dropkick Murphys (Dropkick Murphys) 30-35k P!nk (RCA) 27-30k One Direction (Syco/Columbia) 24-27k Mumford & Sons (Glassnote) 24-27k Phillip Phillips (19/Interscope) 21-24k T.I. (Grand Hustle/Atlantic) 21-24k Imagine Dragons (Interscope) 21-24k Rihanna (Def Jam/IDJ) 21-24k Now 44 (Capitol) 21-24k

I still think they're underestimating "Les Miserables", but maybe that's just wishful thinking from my part.

I got used to seeing Taylor in the top 3 that anything lower than that seems like she's already flopping.

^Stop with the "flopping" talk. She's sold over 3 million.
I was just at Best Buy. The album is $14.99. It's expensive.
Most albums at Best Buy are just $11.99.

Yes, she's on her highest high with this era and with more hits than ever. "Red" will also easily become her best selling album worldwide.

^Probably in the same range as Rihanna & co. If not, maybe they are unsure due to her performance at the Peoples Choice Awards this week may have an effect.

Alicia Keys was only in the top 10 this week due to discounted pricing. Last week the album was at #18
It seems reasonable that there is no Alicia Keys listing for next week now that the sale is over. The album may not even make the top 20

Hits was off last week with Taylor so I won't be surprised if she's Top 3 again.

Black Veil Brides, Dropkick Murphys Top 10 Bound on Next Week's Billboard 200 Chart January 11, 2013 | By Keith Caulfield ( keith_caulfield), Los Angeles In the dead of January, a number of acts are taking advantage of the traditionally slow period for new album releases. Veteran Christian singer/songwriter Chris Tomlin, along with rock bands Hollywood Undead, Black Veil Brides and Dropkick Murphys, are set to arrive in the top 10 on the Billboard 200 albums chart next week. Tomlin could open atop the list with his latest album, "Burning Lights." It would mark his first No. 1 on the tally and second top 10 effort. Label sources suggest that the title might sell around 70,000 copies by the end of the tracking week on Jan. 13. The new Billboard 200 chart's top 10 will be revealed on the morning of Jan. 16. Looking to bow in the runner-up slot is Hollywood Undead's "Notes From the Underground" with perhaps 50,000, or so. Also on tap for a top five entry is Black Veil Brides' "Wretched and Divine: The Story of the Wild Ones" with around 45,000. The latter rock band has never been in the top 10 before, while Hollywood Undead has claimed one entry in the region (2011's "American Tragedy," No. 4). Also on course for a likely top 10 arrival is Dropkick Murphys' "Signed & Sealed in Blood." It might sell around 30,000 -- a bit less than the 43,000 that greeted its last album ("Going Out In Style") in its debut frame, according to Nielsen SoundScan. On SoundScan's Building chart (below), Hollywood Undead leads the tally, while the "Les Miserable" soundtrack is No. 2. The Building tally is a precursor to the final Billboard 200 ranking, reflecting the first four days (Monday through Thursday) of SoundScan's tracking week as reported by six major merchants. Elsewhere on the Building Chart, Taylor Swift's "Red" is No. 3, the "Pitch Perfect" soundtrack is No. 4 and Tomlin is at No. 5. How can Tomlin be at No. 5 if he's in the running for No. 1 on the Billboard 200? Because the Building Chart doesn't include sales from many Christian bookstores and non-traditional retailers (where Tomlin sells strongly), his position on the chart is deceiving. He will end up much higher on the Billboard 200 chart, which includes sales from the Christian marketplace and other non-traditional retailers. Absent entirely from the top 10 on the Building Chart entirely is Black Veil Brides' new album. The title is missing because of a processing error. Never fear, the album will certainly rank in the top 10 on the Billboard 200 next week. As for the rest of the Building Chart's top 10, we have Bruno Mars' "Unorthodox Jukebox" at No. 6; Dropkick Murphys at No. 7; P!nk's "The Truth About Love" at No. 8; the Lumineers' self-titled album at No. 9; and Mumford & Sons' "Babel" at No. 10. Nielsen SoundScan Building Chart Rank LW BB 200 Artist Title 1 NEW Hollywood Undead "Notes From the Underground" 2 1 Soundtrack "Les Miserables: Highlights" 3 3 Taylor Swift "Red" 4 7 Soundtrack "Pitch Perfect" 5 NEW Chris Tomlin "Burning Lights" 6 6 Bruno Mars "Unorthodox Jukebox" 7 NEW Dropkick Murphies "Signed & Sealed in Blood" 8 10 P!nk "The Truth About Love" 9 8 The Lumineers "The Lumineers" 10 2 Mumford & Sons "Babel" The Building Chart reflects the first four days (Monday through Thursday) of SoundScan's tracking week (which ends Sunday) as reported by six major merchants: iTunes, Trans World Entertainment, Best Buy, Starbucks, Target and Anderson Merchandisers. Billboard estimates that they make up about 85% of all U.S. album sales.
