#6The Reasonfrom the album Let's Talk About Love (1997) It's talk to talk about the flawless vocals and immense feeling toward a Celine recording at this point in time without sounding repetitive, especially with this song which is just fantastic. The opening notes and the horn in this song I find particularly exciting because it immediately brings me back to my first playing the CD and listening to the album. I got it for Christmas in 1997, just before My Heart Will Go On started it rounds as a hit single, but a few weeks after the album itself got released. (That's right. The album was released without having an actual hit. Tell Him with Barbra was the only single and it barely performed). Let's Talk About Love is probably my favourite Celine album when I take into account the number of times I listened to it as a current. While I have fond memories of The Colour Of My Love and will often cite THAT one as my favourite, I think Let's Talk About Love got more listens from me. And it all started with The Reason. While I did get Falling Into You when it was big, I think the fact I got it on cassette rather than CD hindered the number of times I wanted to listen to it but having this album on CD allowed me to freely listen to it over and over without having to rewind, fast forward, or whatever. I could skip the french song if I wanted to and skip Tell Him while I was at it. It was an exciting CD. I don't consider this song as a single even though it was released in several European countries and I *had* seen the CD single in stores where I lived. It hit #11 in the UK and should have been the next single in North America but for some reason, the era ended after To Love You More. Alas, it's still one of Celine's best tracks.

"To Love You More" is so fucking flawless! :'( CΓ©line + a beautiful violin completes my life! The song would definitely be in my like top 3 favorite songs from her! So happy it made it this high!
Did not expect to see "The Reason" for some reason, but I'm so happy it's here! Such a great song!

#5Because You Loved Mefrom the album Falling Into You (1996) I know I've been talking a lot about being excited as a Celine fan but I definitely think early 1996 takes the cake. Since being a follower in 1994, this was the first time I was able to experience a Celine era from the beginning and see her song go to #1 on Casey's Top 40 while getting tons of video play on the various TV music outlets from back then. 1996 was such a great year in music with Alanis Morissette and Mariah Carey having excellent eras, along with most of the other hits so watching Because You Loved Me race up the chart just added to that. The theme to the movie Upclose & Personal, the song also hit #1 on the Hot 100 where it spent 6 weeks, 19 weeks at #1 on Billboard's AC chart (a then-record), 14 weeks on Hot 100 airplay, 12 weeks on Adult Top 40 and was nominated for 4 Grammys and both a Golden Globe and an Academy Award (but lost both to You Must Love Me by Madonna). At this point, it was Celine's biggest hit and the leading single from her biggest album. A true smash!

The Reason was actually supposed to be the lead single from LTAL, but for some reason got switched to *yawn* Tell Him instead. It's a great opener for the album. The song was also written by Carole King, and she is featured in background. Celine and Carole also performed the song together at the 1998 Divas concert.
I don't know how accurate this is, but there is a rumor that the reason why this song was scrapped as a single was because of the pending Monica Lewinsky investigation at the time, and a few of the lyrics seemed to parallel and a bit provocative for a Celine song. Again, I doubt it is true, but funny nonetheless. "I'm going down cause I adore you, I want to floor you." The local AC station here even made their own edit of the song removing that lyric, but it never made it to air.
As for Because You Loved Me, what can be said about it that hasn't already been said? To me it is the definitive Celine song. It's timeless, and still sounds as incredible today as it did in the 90s.

The suspense is killing me!! Just four more songs to go.
During all of that, I'll be posting some fun facts and figures too. Feel free to share some of your own that I might accidentally leave out. I certainly don't know everything.
#4 should come tomorrow:

#4Only One Roadfrom the album The Colour Of My Love (1993) This was the fifth single from this album, although it only got a little bit of airplay where I lived, it did hit #1 on Canadian AC, #15 Canadian singles and #93 on the Hot 100. This song, like a lot of this album, has a strong tendency to get trapped in my head for days at a time when I hear it. Along with other great great songs from The Colour Of My Love, like Everybody's Talkin' My Baby Down, Next Plane Out and Real Emotion, they sometimes make me a little homesick and timesick for this particular period. I was about 10 and I distinctly have memories that I was losing interest in kids stuff and that it was really depressing for me because, well, when you're 10, all you know is what you've been interested in as a kid. It's an odd thing to think about now and an odd thing to associate with these songs. But they also bring me back to a much simpler life and just being a kid since these songs were what I heard a lot that year. Since Celine was my first love as a singer, and 1994 was the year I got into music (it replaced my kid interests), these songs essentially serve as the dawn of my musical tastes. Only One Road is the one that I place at the top of the list and it sits here at #4.

#3Water From The Moonfrom the album Celine Dion (1991) This is another one of what I consider to be classic Celine and a song I absolutely love. That first cassette tape I ever made that had three Celine songs also had this one in addition to the two I previously mentioned so it definitely has a special place for me. This is another of Celine's Diane Warren recordings and, judging by its placement on this chart, is one of the best Diane has written. I didn't realize this song was an American single. It was the fifth release from this album in the US where it made it to #11 on Billboard's AC chart. #13 in Canada and #3 Canada AC. This album, along with Let's Talk About Love, are the most prominent and represented albums in my Top 30, each with five songs making this countdown. Another thing about this album is that on the cover, Celine looks a lot like one of my Grade 2 and 3 substitute teachers Mrs. Dalton, who I also really liked. So another personal connection to Celine and my childhood. This song is one of Celine's first epic tracks.

I love Water From the Moon. However there is one thing that keeps this from being an all-timer for me, is the despite Diane Warren being one of the greatest songwriters of our time, the "Do I gotta get water from the moon" lyric has always irked me. It just sounds so wrong, and being an English major that is the one thing that has gotten to me. Call me a pitpicker, but I have the same gripe with "Love Can Move Mountains." Other than that, I love everything else about it.

#2It's All Coming Back To Me Nowfrom the album Falling Into You (1996) From what I've said over the last 28 songs, Celine has had a lot of high points in her career. I think her peak came in 1996 during this song, which not only serves as one of her absolute best recordings but also her best music video, which is essentially a mini-movie that is beautifully stunning. Written by Jim Steinman, the song is its own journey that broke barriers as a pop song in 1996. Few singers today would even think of recording a 7 and a half minute song for their album, let alone release it as the second single. The radio edit only cut off two minutes of the track, remaining at 5:33 and yet the song still hit #2 on airplay and #2 on the Hot 100. Both versions had their own slightly altered music video. From the haunting opening notes of the song, Celine takes us where she's never gone before. Even on the radio edit, which was done just right, there are aspects that I particularly enjoy that make it even more dramatic than the album version. Even over the years, this is one of the Celine songs that has always stayed pretty close - I've never gotten sick of it. A definite true classic from Celine, from the 90s and from music in general!

So I'm going to post #1 tonight. But first, I'll do a quick rundown of the list up to now. 30. Taking Chances [2007] 29. I Want You To Need Me [1999] 28. Stand By Your Side [2003] 27. I'm Alive [2002] 26. Another Year Has Gone By [1998] 25. A New Day Has Come [2002] 24. My Heart Will Go On [1997] 23. Let's Talk About Love [1997] 22. Un Garcon Pas Comme Les Autres (Ziggy) [1991] 21. Miles To Go (Before I Sleep) [1997] 20. I'm Your Angel [1998] 19. That's The Way It Is [1999] 18. Des Mots Qui Sonnent [1991] 17. Love Can Move Mountains [1991] 16. Misled [1993] 15. Think Twice [1993] 14. All By Myself [1996] 13. If You Asked Me To [1991] 12. I Drove All Night [2003] 11. I Surrender [2002] 10. Beauty And The Beast [1991] 9. Did You Give Enough Love [1991] 8. Us [1997] 7. To Love You More [1996] 6. The Reason [1997] 5. Because You Loved Me [1996] 4. Only One Road [1993] 3. Water From The Moon [1991] 2. It's All Coming Back To Me Now [1996] Here's an album-by-album breakdown as well, based on the number of songs to appear from each one: That totals 29, leaving one more. But first, I'm also going to post my Celine Dion personal chart history! It doesn't look that impressive but it's important to keep in mind that my chart began in 1998. Had I started it in 1994 or 1995, Celine would easily have had a few additional #1 singles in Because You Loved Me, It's All Coming Back To Me Now and My Heart Will Go On. Plus, I would have charted To Love You More in its 1996 release. To Love You More - #23 Miles To Go (Before I Sleep) - #3 Let's Talk About Love - #8 I'm Your Angel - #1 That's The Way It Is - #1 Live For The One You Love - #55 I Want You To Need Me - #11 God Bless America - #80 A New Day Has Come - #12 I'm Alive - #13 Goodbye's (The Saddest Word) - #40 I Drove All Night - #21 One Heart - #79 Stand By Your Side - #56 You And I - #65 Taking Chances - #34 Alone - #75 So without any more distractions: I bring you... #1!

#1Where Does My Heart Beat Nowfrom the album Unison (1990) It's easy to forget Celine's first english album Unison when you consider everything else about her career. It was Beauty And The Beast that established her as a major recording artist in the United States. It was The Power Of Love that made her a force. It was Because You Loved Me that made her a pop radio superstar. My Heart Will Go On made her an icon. Her touring and unmistakeable voice in the form of her Greatest Hits and hugely dominant comeback that made her a legend. But the song that really started it all was this one. Where Does My Heart Beat Now was Celine's third single from this album in Canada following If There Was (Any Other Way) and Unison. Both of those songs peaked at #27 on CHR in Canada. Where Does My Heart Beat Now hit only #23 on Canadian CHR but it served as Celine's first American single where it hit #4 on the Hot 100 (to be followed up with If There Was (Any Other Way) which peaked at #35 the next year). Either way, the song became a standard on Canadian radio as its gold airplay continued as other Canadian singers began or continued making their way into prominence in Canada. While I raved about Celine's other hits on this chart and the perfection that some of her songs contained, it's this song that strikes the strongest chord with me. The opening notes hit so hard and the song, to me, sounds so perfectly Canadian and historical but still good. Not just good, great. This song was Celine untampered, unaltered, in her natural state (english version) singing with true style and feeling without having anything at all to prove. Even though this song's release came during the transition of the 80s-sound into what would become the 90s, this stands apart from those having its own distinct production qualities that don't sound like many other major hits of the time. It does, however, have the sound that a lot of Canadian singers were going for in the early 90s. This song is a reminder of Celine's roots but also a foreshadow of what she was going to deliver over the next two decades.

Thanks to everyone who joined me on this fun journey down memory lane. It was a great reason to relive some of the great songs that made this list, and even some that didn't. I hope you guys enjoyed it.
I'm also going to announce my next list. I'm sure it's already been done several times but my next chart will be for Madonna! As a GaGa fan, I feel like I've bin pigeonholed into that label that disallows me from being able to add my input or opinion on anything Madonna without being branded a certain way. I haven't made the chart yet and I don't know how many positions it will be but I'm thinking it will be anywhere from a Top 30 to a Top 50! Stay tuned!

An excellent top two.
It's hard to deny Steinman's IACBTMN. Epic sing-alongs for days with that one.
But I'm incredibly, and happily surprised by your #1. I've always considered it such an underrated gem- grand and sweeping, yet quaint considering its age.
Anyway, I've really enjoyed this. Good work!

#2It's All Coming Back To Me Nowfrom the album Falling Into You (1996) Pretty much everything that has been said. Quite possibly my all-time favorite song, just everything about this makes amazing look like meh. The combination of Celine & Steinman is beyond a win. Some may call this the 90s version of Total Eclipse of the Heart, and yeah maybe it cane be, but as you said, her best video, her most standout smash!

#1Where Does My Heart Beat Nowfrom the album Unison (1990) Well I definitely was not expecting this one at #1. Not to take anything away from it, it's still an incredible track. I'm surprised that this is the only song included from the Unison era. (I can think of a few more I'd throw in here). Overall, amazing list! Can't say I disagree with anything. One of these days I'll have to put mine together, but in my case it would be similar to asking a mother to choose her favorite children.
