but then she does it in half a dozen songs and it starts to a) feel overused and b) hurt your ears. She needs to save that for when it's really necessary, IMO. I disagree a bit. She's got the pipes and she wants to show it off, as I think she should. (i think it sounds good, as long as the control is there). She's got a great voice, but every great voice has its limits. Demi definitely does this thing where she deliberately pushes her voice past its limits until it cracks, for the emotional effect. This works amazingly in 'Skyscraper', but not so much in 'Never Been Hurt', IMO.

Bought the album, cannot wait to listen to it. I love that the UK version has GYHAB/Skyscraper as I didn't have them. <3

As I said in the 'Heart Attack' thread, 'Really Don't Care', 'Something That We're Not', and 'Neon Lights' all need to be singles at some point. They're too good to go unreleased, and clearly the public agrees.

Just saw her on Britain's Got Talent. She did well, crowd went wild and she called Simon an 'old man'. Should give the album/single a nice boost.

I believe "Really Don't Care" is the GYHAB of the album, bbut she really needs to put herself together before releasing anything else.
She has been looking as a mid-30s soccer-mum as of late...

This album is REALLY strong. I was ignoring Never Been Hurt before but what a song! Her voice is great on this album too. I hope it does well in the long run because it's her best album.

My desk mate bought this album. A lot of the songs sound the same, but they're not bad.
I want "Something That We're Not" to be the next single. It's so much fun!

She's slowly but surely converted me to being a full-on fan. I know Really Don't Care is the popular opinion for second single, but I absolutely love Made in the USA and am glad it's next. It's the first song this summer that really gives me that fun, pop, summery vibe that I got from Brokenhearted last year (Blurred Lines and Get Lucky are great, but they don't give me that intangible "fun" factor.)

I've been obsessing over "I Hate You, Don't Leave Me" recently. What a flawless song, omg Seriously anyone that hasn't taken the time to listen to it yet, do it!

Wow, I just heard that her father passed away. I'm surprised nobody's mentioned it on here yet.

I didn't think it was necessary. Her biological father was an abuser and a user. There were obviously a ton of issues. I just wonder how she's dealing with it.

Yeah, I wasn't quite sure what the situation here was because they kept saying in the articles that they hadn't spoken to her in years. I'm curious as to how much it affects her if he wasn't that big of a part in her life (at least as a positive figure).

He definitely was a big part of the negativity in her life. I don't know...
It just makes me wonder how she'll take to performing songs like "Warrior" or "Shouldn't Come Back" now. She probably won't. She's always avoided performing the more personal songs about her strained relationship with her bio dad.

But, Demi knew her father was battling cancer for a very long time, and still didn't reconcile with him and continued to be estranged from him. She was not living with him and hadn't talked to him since 2007. Patrick had reached out to Demi via the press in 2011, begging her to contact him. 'I love her so much, and I just want her to call me,' Patrick told RadarOnline in October that year. 'This is the only way I can talk to her, I try to reach her but it never works.' Patrick, who lived alone in New Mexico, said he wanted to reconcile with his daughters and their mother Dianna, who subsequently remarried Eddie De La Garza, Demi's stepfather. 'My health isn’t what it used to be and I know my daughter loves her daddy, so please call me Demi,' he pleaded. He even asked that all he wanted was for her to talk to him again, and she didn't, which I can respect. And she tweeted this recently: RIP Daddy.. I love you.. Love, Your little partner Wouldn't it be nice if she could do this before he died?

I thought they reconciled around the time Unbroken came out. ??? No. "Shouldn't Come Back" and "Warrior" are evidence enough to disprove that. I think she said she reached out to him once, but he hadn't changed.

Nobody can judge her decision to reconcile with him anyways. If the relationship was as sour as evidenced (go listen to "For the Love of a Daughter" -- flawless) and he hadn't changed since, then I can't say I'm surprised. I'm sympathetic for her and her family, though.

I am absolutely obsessed with "Made in the USA" -- such a great catchy little pop tune! I wasn't immediately a fan, but the more I listened to it, the more it grew on me in a big way. Really excited to watch her career progress.

Demi won three awards at the Teen Choice Awards tonight: Female Artist, Choice Single: Female Artist ("Heart Attack"), and Female Personality. The X Factor also won Reality Competition Show. She lost to Miley Cyrus in Choice Style Icon, Harry Styles in Choice Smile, and Selena Gomez in Female Hottie.
And here's her performance of "Made in the USA":
