I have been and still am a fan of the chicks. Just wondering if they'll be accepted at radio if/when they release a new album.

If you wanted to vote for yes at more than one format or no at more than one format, you can't. I vote no at country.

I think Country will play them. They still do a lot. At least the stations in my area.

Why would country not play them? How did Long Time Gone and Travelin' Soldier fare? And Landslide, which I know is more AC-leaning?

Neither country stations in my area play them. I don't really care if they do. I've never been a fan of theirs.

Country radio wants them back, but they can't admit it because that would make them hypocrite, cause they have NEVER been hypocrites I want them back and will buy the new album the day it comes out.

I don't think Country would play them again since they are known Democrats and Country radio feels the need to choose partisanship for its listeners.

Country radio, and the country industry itself, will welcome them back.
The country industry and country radio love[/U] artists who get on their knees and kiss a whole lot of butt.
That is especially true when an artist(s) runs back and starts groveling after they've done something bad that got them in trouble. (An example would be if industry favorite(s) crossed over completely.)
Examples: LeAnn Rimes and Lee Ann Womack were both welcomed back with wide open arms after running back to the industry. That is particularly the case with Lee Ann Womack.
Now, the country industry is just loving[/B] the fact that Faith Hill has now joined the ranks of the once-outcast singers who have come running back to beg for forgiveness. Country radio has already welcomed her back with wide open arms. The entire industry will do the same.
The Dixie Chicks will be the same way. The country industry loves it when people come back on their knees.
If the Chicks do that, they're back in.

I actually think Triple A will be their best bet from here on, possibly some Hot AC attention.
They're never going to retrieve the full lvele of country support they used to. I think there will still be plenty of stations that can help them get enough exposure to promote their next release to their traditional listeners, but I don't think they're ever going to have enough chart-topping single, or possibly a Top 10 hit even here in that manner.
I actually think the Dixie Chicks will still have a cult sales success kind of like the Dave Matthews Band, though. The Dixie Chicks proved even after the controversy they could still sell out huge venues, which they did in almost every stop they attended after the Bush comment. That's going to remain their huge strength and I certainly don't think we've seen the last of these chicks.
Sincerely, Noah Eaton

I don't think it's fair to compare the Dixie Chicks return to country radio to that of Lee Ann Womack or LeAnn Rimes. Didn't the Dixie Chicks talk a ton of trash about Nashville and the country music industry in general? I don't think that's the case with the two more polite ladies who tried to venture out to the mainstream. I heard they recorded their last album in Los Angeles. Could that be an indication that they'd like to go more mainstream? Hmmm....maybe they truly are snubbing the Nashville music scene.
I agree that they will still sell a good deal of albums. They picked up a ton of new fans from that controversy. Although country radio may not LIKE them personally, they are extremely talented and I think the quality of the songs will be the deciding factor.

so basically if you have an opinion that doesn't jive with the people in charge of what gets played on country radio, and you express that opinion, you won't get played on country radio.
isn't that, to some degree, illegal? or do the fans disagree with these alternate socio-political beliefs so much that country radio not playing them is a result of fewer requests and backlash towards the artist?

It's not illegal. Private businesses have the right to allocate airplay as they wish. We're entitled to form our own opinions about the decisions they make, and I for one miss the Chicks a lot; but there's no way it's illegal. I can't think of a short way to write what I think of that whole mess, so I'll just stop right here.

well, i guess you're right about the illegal thing.
however that still makes the people in charge incredibly close-minded and stupid. anyone who can't put aside their political differences to appreciate good music, and then turn their head to good music when an artist or artists share different views than they do is a moron, in my opinion.
i guess i would understand more if all the fans were saying "don't play the dixie chicks because they hate america and they're anti-america!" or whatever. however it's completely ridiculous if the political views of a few are dictating what the masses get to hear or not hear.
yet upon reading what i just wrote, it's completely ridiculous if the political views of a few are dictating what the masses get to hear or not hear", the only thing that popped into my head was "that's the way it works in every business".

Will their new record even be country? I thought I saw Emily sporting an electric guitar at a performance within the last several months. I can see them shifting their sound.
No matter what, I'm looking forward to some new music from them!

KZLA here in L A will undoubtedly play them, since TDC are still frequently heard on KZLA.

The Dixie Chicks aren't going to abandon their roots. Natalie Maines said herself she has no intention to stop writing country music.
I think what may happen, actually, is maybe they'll go with a style kind of like Mindy Smith, where country and rock elements are blended.
This sort of evolution of their sound can grant them a big welcome on Triple A, and they might get away with some continued restricted Country and Hot AC spins.
Sincerely, Noah Eaton
