www.billboard.com/biz/articles/news/chart-alert/1558370/paramore-earn-first-no-1-album-on-billboard-200Paramore Earn First No. 1 Album On Billboard 200 By Keith Caulfield | April 17, 2013 Rock band Paramore nabs its first No. 1 album on the Billboard 200 this week, beating out Brad Paisley, who debuts at No. 2. The former's self-titled set starts with 106,000, according to Nielsen SoundScan, while Paisley's Wheelhouse launches with 100,000. For Paramore, it's the trio's first album since 2009's Brand New Eyes, which debuted and peaked at No. 2 with a 175,000 start. The new album's lead single, "Now," slipped off the Alternative Songs chart this week, after peaking at No. 13 in March. Paramore is the second chart-topper for its label, Fueled by Ramen. The company earlier hit the top with Fall Out Boy's Infinity on High on Feb. 24, 2007. Meanwhile, country super star Paisley—who has yet to tally a No. 1—grabs his fourth No. 2 album with Wheelhouse. (All four of Paisley's No. 2 sets have debuted in the runner-up slot.) He's now tied with Sheryl Crow for the most No. 2 albums without a No. 1. Crow strung together four consecutive No. 2 sets between 2002 and 2008. With a 100,000 start, this marks Paisley's lowest opening week for a non-instrumental studio album since 2003, when Mud on the Tires bowed at No. 8 with 86,000. Since then, he's released five proper studio sets, including Wheelhouse. On the bright side, Wheelhouse rolls in at No. 1 on the Country Albums chart—Paisley's lucky seventh No. 1 on the tally. The album's lead single, "Southern Comfort Zone," topped out at No. 2 on the Country Airplay chart in February, while its follow-up, "Beat This Summer," rises 15-14 this week. Last week's Billboard 200 No. 1, Justin Timberlake's The 20/20 Experience, falls to No. 3 with 98,000 (down 30%) while Blake Shelton's Based on a True Story . . . is steady at No. 4 with 61,000 (down 25%). Eric Church's new Caught in the Act: Live debuts at No. 5 with 61,000. It’s the country singer's second top 10 set, following 2011's Chief, which debuted at No. 1. Fellow country act the Band Perry slips 2-6 in its second week with Pioneer, moving 56,000 (down 56%). Hip-hop star Tyga bows at No. 7 with Hotel California, moving 54,000 in its first week. His last album, 2012's Careless World: Rise of the Last King, started at No. 4 with 61,000. He's one step above his Young Money label founder, Lil Wayne, who falls 5-8 with I Am Not a Human Being II with 42,000 (down 38%). Rock band Volbeat nets its best week yet as its new album Outlaw Gentlemen & Shady Ladies starts at No. 9 with 39,000. The group's last album, its breakthrough set Beyond Hell/Above Heaven, spent 110 weeks on Heatseekers Albums. It has sold 225,000 and spawned three No. 1 singles on the Active Rock airplay chart. Closing out the top 10 on the Billboard 200 is another rock band, Stone Sour, who arrives with its fourth top 10 album, House of Gold & Bones, Part 2 (No. 10; 35,000). It follows House of Gold & Bones, Part 1, which entered at No. 7 on the Nov. 10, 2012, chart with 31,000. Over on the Digital Songs chart, last week's No. 1, Bruno Mars' "When I Was Your Man," drops to No. 6 with 166,000 with a 51% decline. Its sales surge to No. 1 last week (when it zoomed 4-1 with 340,000, up 45%) was caused in part by a temporary $0.69 sale price in the iTunes Store. This week, without the discount in place, the song drops back to its normal level of sales. Thus, P!nk's "Just Give Me a Reason" (featuring Nate Reuss) returns to No. 1 this week, stepping 2-1 with 283,000 (up 1%). Macklemore & Ryan Lewis' "Can't Hold Us" rises 6-2 with 208,000 (up 12%) after the duo performed it on the MTV Movie Awards on Sunday (April 14). Florida Georgia Line's "Cruise" holds at No. 3 with 179,000 (down 28%) while Rihanna's "Stay" (featuring Mikky Ekko) slides 5-4 with 176,000 (down 15%). Macklemore and Lewis are in the top five a second time, as "Thrift Shop" slips 4-5 with 165,000 (down 21%). The pair is the first act to have two concurrent top five singles on the Digital Songs chart since Nov. 3, 2012, when Taylor Swift had a pair in the region. Elsewhere in the top 10 on the Digital Songs chart this week, Luke Bryan's "Crash My Party" debuts at No. 7 with 164,000 (up 526%) after a full week's worth of sales. It's his best sales week ever and first top 10 on the Digital Songs chart. The song was released in the evening on Sunday, April 7, the same night he premiered the song via a performance on the Academy of Country Music Awards. Timberlake's "Mirrors" climbs 12-8 with 127,000 (up 10%), Imagine Dragons' "Radioactive" slides 7-9 with 124,000 (down 24%), and Icona Pop's "I Love It" (featuring Charli XCX) descends 9-10 with 116,000 (down 12%). Overall album sales in this past chart week (ending April 14) totaled 5.4 million units, down 4% compared with the sum last week (5.7 million) and down 3% compared with the comparable sales week of 2012 (5.6 million). Year-to-date album sales stand at 85.1 million, down 5% compared with the same total at this point last year (89.8 million). Digital track sales this past week totaled 25.5 million downloads, down 10% compared with last week (28.3 million) and down 9% stacked next to the comparable week of 2012 (28.1 million). Year-to-date track sales are at 410.3 million, down 1% compared with the same total at this point last year (418.6 million). Next week's Billboard 200 competes with the same week in 2012 when: Lionel Richie's Tuskegee held at No. 1 for a second week, selling 114,000 (down 11%) while Jason Mraz's Love Is a Four Letter Word debuted at No. 2 with 102,000.

Yay! Congratulations to Paramore on their first #1 album. I'm glad the numbers were very similar to those on HITS.

music.yahoo.com/blogs/chart-watch/week-ending-april-14-2013-albums-keeping-brad-151214192.htmlWeek Ending April 14, 2013. Albums: Keeping Brad Paisley Humble By Paul Grein | Chart Watch Right about now, Brad Paisley is probably wondering what he has to do to land a #1 album. His new Wheelhouse enters The Billboard 200 at #2 (behind Paramore’s new album). Unless it moves up to #1 in a subsequent week, which rarely happens, it will be his fourth album to peak at #2, following Time Well Wasted, American Saturday Night and This Is Country Music. Only one other artist in chart history has had as many as four #2 albums without reaching #1. Sheryl Crow reached the runner-up spot with four consecutive releases from 2002 through 2008: C’mon, C’mon, The Very Best Of Sheryl Crow, Wildflowers and Detours. “Accidental Racist,” a track from Wheelhouse, has stirred considerable buzz and controversy. (The consensus is that it was a well-intentioned, but clumsy, attempt to start a conversation about race.) The track, a collabo with LL Cool J, enters Hot Digital Songs at #50 (based on sales of 43K copies). That puts it ahead of “Beat This Summer,” the first single from the album, which sold 32K copies. Sting is runner-up among artists who have had the most #2 albums without ever reaching #1. As a solo artist, he has had three #2 albums: The Dream Of The Blue Turtles, The Soul Cages and Ten Summoner’s Tales. (He did land a #1 album with The Police.) The Fine Print: Kidz Bop Kids has amassed five #2 albums without a #1, but that’s a franchise rather than an identifiable artist with a consistent line-up of members. Paisley has of course has had better luck on Top Country Albums. Wheelhouse becomes his seventh #1 on that chart, displacing The Band Perry’s Pioneer. Paramore’s Paramore debuts at #1. Each of the band’s four studio albums has fared better on the chart than the one before it. The band’s debut album, All We Know Is Falling, failed to chart in 2005. Its sophomore album, Riot!, peaked at #15 in its 10th week on the chart in 2007. Its third album, Brand New Eyes, debuted and peaked at #2 in October 2009. (It was kept out of the top spot by Barbra Streisand’s debuting Love Is The Answer.) Paramore is the first eponymous album to reach #1 since Evanescence’s Evanescence in October 2011. Paramore sold 63K digital copies this week (out of 106K total), which puts it at #1 on Top Digital Albums. Brand New Eyes also hit #1 on the digital chart, with first-week digital sales of 73K. Paramore also debuts at #1 on The Official U.K. chart. It bumps Justin Timberlake’s The 20/20 Experience from the top spot in both the U.S. and the U.K. Both Paramore and Timberlake are from Tennessee. (Paramore was formed in Franklin. Timberlake was born in Memphis.) Paramore is the first American rock band to reach #1 in both the U.S. and the U.K. since Linkin Park scored with Living Things in 2011. Country artists account for four of the top six spots on The Billboard 200, a reflection of the high ratings for the recent Academy Of Country Music Awards show. Eric Church’s first live album, Caught In The Act, debuts at #5. It’s Church’s second top five album. Chief hit #1 in August 2011. (Styx had a double-disk live album titled Caught In The Act—Live in 1984.) Tyga’s third studio album, Hotel California, debuts at #7. It’s his second top 10 album. Careless World: Rise Of The Last King peaked at #4 in 2012. (Eagles’ classic album Hotel California debuted at #4 in the last week of 1976. It went on to log eight weeks at #1 and receive a Grammy nomination as Album of the Year.) Will Tyga’s album be as successful? I’m guessing no. Volbeat’s fifth studio album, Outlaw Gentlemen & Shady Ladies, debuts at #9. It’s by far the highest-charting album by the Danish metal band, whose only previous chart album, Beyond Hell/Above Heaven, reached #161 in 2010. Stone Sour’s fifth studio album, House Of Gold & Bones Pt. 2, debuts at #10. House Of Gold & Bones Pt. 1 reached #7 in 2012. It’s one of two sequels in this week’s top 10. Lil Wayne’s I Am Not A Human Being II drops from #5 to #8. “Just Give Me A Reason” by P!nk featuring Nate Ruess returns to #1 on Hot Digital Songs (283K), after being displaced last week by Bruno Mars’ bargain-boosted “When I Was Your Man.” This is its third week on top. That’s the longest run at #1 on the digital chart for a female-led collabo since “We Found Love” by Rihanna featuring Calvin Harris had five weeks on top in late 2011. Will it also jump to #1 on the Hot 100? You’ll find out later today when we post Chart Watch: Songs. Here’s the low-down on this week’s top 10 albums. The Top Five: Paramore’s Paramore debuts at #1 (106K). It’s the band’s second top 10 album…Brad Paisley’s Wheelhouse debuts at #2 (100K). It’s his eighth top 10 album…Justin Timberlake’s The 20/20 Experience drops from #1 to #3 in its fourth week (98K). It has been in the top five the entire time… Blake Shelton’s Based On A True Story… holds at #4 for the second week in its third week (61K). It has ranked in the top five the entire time…Eric Church’s live album Caught In The Act debuts at #5 (61K). It’s his second top 10 album. The Second Five: The Band Perry’s Pioneer drops from #2 to #6 in its second week (56K)…Tyga’s Hotel California debuts at #7 (54K). It’s his second top 10 album… Lil Wayne’s I Am Not A Human Being II drops from #5 to #8 in its third week (42K)…Volbeat’s Outlaw Gentlemen & Shady Ladies debuts at #9 (39K). It’s the band’s first top 10 album… Stone Sour’s House Of Gold & Bones Pt. 2 debuts at #10 (35K). It’s the band’s fourth top 10 album. Six albums drop out of the top 10 this week. Tyler, The Creator’s Wolf drops from #3 to #22. New Kids On The Block’s 10 plummets from #6 to #53. Killswitch Engage’s Disarm The Descent drops from #7 to #36. Imagine Dragons’ Night Visions drops from #8 to #17. P!nk’s The Truth About Love drops from #9 to #14. Bruno Mars’ Unorthodox Jukebox drops from #10 to #12. Device’s debut album, Device, debuts at #11. The industrial metal band was started by David Draiman, front-man for Disturbed (whose last four studio albums have reached #1). Device also features Geno Lenardo, former guitarist with the band Filter. Pitch Perfect drops from #30 to #34 in its 25th week. It’s the highest-ranking soundtrack to a theatrically-released movie for the 15th week. Cast member Rebel Wilson hosted the MTV Movie Awards on Sunday. Pitch Perfect has sold 517K digital copies, which makes it the second best-selling soundtrack in digital history. Twilight is the leader among soundtracks, with digital sales of 727K. Will Pitch Perfect top Twilight in the digital realm before the year is out? Stay tuned. Dawes’ Stories Don’t End debuts at #35. Dubstep pioneer James Blake’s Overgrown debuts at #37. The Postal Service’s 2003 album Give Up re-enters the chart at #45. This constitutes a new peak for the album, which originally peaked at #114. The album re-enters Top Catalog Albums at #1. The album has been a true sleeper hit: It has sold 1,094,000 copies even though it has reached 15K in weekly sales just once (Christmas week of 2004). The duo features Benjamin Gibbard, who also formed Death Cab for Cutie. Sound City—Real To Reel returns to #1 on Top Music Videos. This is its third week on top. It has sold 24K copies over the course of its six-week run. Coming Attractions: Fall Out Boy’s Save Rock And Roll and Kid Cudi’s Indicud will vie for #1 next week. Also due: Yeah Yeah Yeahs’ Mosquito, Iron & Wine’s Ghost On Ghost, Sarah Brightman’s Dreamchaser, The Flaming Lips’ The Terror, Steve Earle & the Dukes’ Low Highway, Snoop Lion’s Reincarnated and Olly Murs’ Right Place, Right Time.

I thought Paramore hit #1 which in turn blocked Mariah Carey from #1 spot, or am I confusing it with a similar band?

Happy that Stone Sour made top 10. Device at Number 11 isn't that bad.

^Thanks, 2m.
Why is The Joshua Tree listed as a new entry? A 20th anniversary edition was issued in 2007 (unless there was a 25th out recently; BB didn't note that it's a special edition).

Is a current album still considered 78 weeks old? Beyonce's album re-enters, with 73 total weeks on the chart, and it's been absent for a good amount of time. Maybe it's because it has (non-radio-active) tracks charting on the streaming charts?

At least the overall numbers aren't quite near the record low.

www.billboard.com/biz/articles/news/chart-alert/1558975/chart-moves-postal-services-give-up-makes-10th-anniversaryChart Moves: Postal Service's 'Give Up' Makes 10th Anniversary Return to Charts By Keith Caulfield, Los Angeles | April 19, 2013 This week on the Billboard 200 albums chart, Justin Timberlake's The 20/20 Experience fell from the No. 1 slot after a three-week reign, letting Paramore open atop the list with its self-titled album (106,000 according to Nielsen SoundScan). Brad Paisley just missed his first No. 1, as Wheelhouse rolled in at No. 2 with 100,000. Elsewhere on the Billboard 200 this week there were a number of movers and shakers, as usual. Let's take a look at some of them: -- The Postal Service, Give Up, No. 45: The Postal Service's million-selling album Give Up notches its best rank ever on the Billboard 200, as its 10th anniversary reissue reenters at No. 45. The set, which saw its sales combined with the original 2003 release, sold 11,000 copies last week -- the album's third-biggest sales week. (Only two weeks over the Christmas holiday of 2004 were larger for the set.) First released in February of 2003, the Give Up album has sold 1.1 million in the U.S. The new reissue includes 15 bonus tracks, including two newly recorded songs. In the album's initial run on the Billboard 200 chart, it spent 31 weeks on the list between March 2004 and April 2005, peaking at No. 114. -- Academy of Country Music Awards: The annual Academy of Country Music Awards broadcast spurs a number of big gains on the Billboard 200, as this week's tally reflects the first full week of impact after the April 7 show. Performances on the CBS telecast triggers increases for 10 albums within the top 40 this week. The largest unit gain belongs to Miranda Lambert's Four the Record, which rises 66-39 with 12,000 (up by 5,000). For the week ending April 14, country album sales grew 8% to 999,000. On the rest of the chart, there was a notable gain by Kelly Clarkson and a bevy of debuts from the likes of Device, James Blake, Jake Miller, Boney James and Jake Bugg. -- Device, Device, No. 11: Not to be confused with the short-lived pop/rock band of the 1980s, this new act debuts at No. 11 and is led by Disturbed's David Draiman. Its debut set enters with 35,000 and also bows at No. 3 on Hard Rock Albums. Lead track "Vilify" rises 7-6 on Active Rock. -- Kelly Clarkson, Greatest Hits: Chapter One, No. 31: After two performances on TV last week, the original "American Idol" takes a hike up the chart with a 41% increase (rising 46-31). Clarkson returned to "Idol" (April 11) for a performance of new single "People Like Us" and the Academy of Country Music Awards to sing her recent country hit "Don't Rush" (April 7). -- James Blake, Overgrown, No. 32: After spending 36 weeks on Heatseekers Albums with his self-titled debut, the British dubstep singer/songwriter returns with his sophomore set, hitting a new chart high and earning his best sales week (14,000). It also launches at No. 1 on Dance/Electronic Albums. -- Boney James, The Beat, No. 54: The saxophonist debuts this week on the Billboard 200 with The Beat, and also at No. 1 on Contemporary Jazz albums marking his seventh chart-topper. He's now tied for the fourth-most No. 1s on the list with the Rippingtons. Kenny G has the most No. 1s (15), while Fourplay (nine) and George Benson (eight) follow. -- Jake Miller, The Road Less Traveled (EP), No. 55: The 20-year-old Washington, D.C., rapper makes a splash with his second EP, selling 8,000. That's twice as many sold in one week than what his first EP, last year's Spotlight, has sold to date. Until this week, Miller had only ever charted on our new and developing artists chart: Uncharted, peaking at No. 7 last December. -- Jake Bugg, Jake Bugg, No. 75: The British singer's debut lands with 6,000 while current single "Lightning Bolt" is just bubbling under the threshold of the Triple A airplay chart, with 109 spins from 15 reporting radio stations (up 43%). "Bolt" also got support from iTunes last week as its free single of the week. It's no surprise then to see that 71% of the album's first week came from digital download sales (the bulk of which was likely iTunes-driven).

^Thanks, 2m. Why is The Joshua Tree listed as a new entry? A 20th anniversary edition was issued in 2007 (unless there was a 25th out recently; BB didn't note that it's a special edition). This is the 20th anniversary edition. The main album has not been on the BB200 since 1989 but the 20th anniversary deluxe spent 5 weeks on the comprehensive chart - so technically a "new" entry since it has never actually charted.
