Divinyls Return to Australian Sales Charts After Death of Chrissy AmphlettThe untimely death of Divinyls singer Chrissy Amphlett has spurred sales spikes on Australia’s record charts. The legendary rockers’ compilation “The Essential” has opened at No. 14 on this week’s albums chart, published Sunday by ARIA. It’s the first time the 2009 EMI release has cracked the chart. Meanwhile, three Divinyls tracks have re-entered the top 100 singles chart, with former No. 1 “I Touch Myself’ coming in at No. 49, “Pleasure And Pain” at No. 56 and the band’s first hit, “Boys In Town” in at No. 79. Amplett died April 21 at her home in NYC after a battle with breast cancer and multiple sclerosis. She was just 53. Her passing was one of the biggest news stories in the entertainment world last week and prompted Australia’s prime minister Julia Gillard to lead tributes for one of the finest performers this country has produced. With Amphlett at the mic, the Divinyls enjoyed an impressive, hit-laden career that was punctuated in 2006 with induction into the ARIA Hall of Fame. Australia’s state-funded broadcaster the ABC showed fans what they had lost with a special program on its Saturday edition of the “Rage” music video show. The playlist comprised videos, backstage interviews and live performances tracing the bands career. Fittingly, the Divinyls special finished with the promo for their 1984 song, "Good Die Young." www.billboard.com/articles/news/1560003/divinyls-return-to-australian-sales-charts-after-death-of-chrissy-amphlett?utm_source=twitter
