Um... I think this is the wrong thread. How so. Damn it. I was in the wrong thread. I could've sworn I was in the thread about that stupid YouTube song about her boyfriend being gay being sent to pop. V5 not having the title in every post is annoying as hell.

The RIAA will only count US YouTube streams though, so that number will be significantly lower than the overall view count. Oh duh. lmao Baby got like +9x platinum from 855 million youtube views though. Gangnam Style is easily the most certified with this new formula, they just haven't updated it yet. Poor I Gotta Feeling.

What I found interesting was the weighting the RIAA placed on streams. 100 on-demand streams = 1 digital download. The BB Hot100 , before the introduction of YouTube streams, had a weighting of 150 on-demand streams = 12 digital downloads, a significantly greater weighting. Um... I think this is the wrong thread. The point I was trying to make was, if Billboard and the RIAA (both in the business of measuring music popularity) were looking at the same data, then you would think they would arrive at nearly the same answer (i.e. 100 on-demand streams = 1 download). Guess I was mistaken.

This makes no sense...
Never translate streams into sales... that's playing a game of guesses.

No R. Kelly? I would've thought he would lead the pack when it came to streaming number ones.

I think this is a bad move. RIAA certs were based on something tangible. Actual purchase and possession of music. This is just ridiculous. Theoretically, you could be 10x platinum and have made no money for it whatsoever.

I agree this is a STUPID idea. Do they count TV showings of movies towards their home video sales?

Theoretically, you could be 10x platinum and have made no money for it whatsoever. Are people not realizing that the labels receive revenue from streaming? I read somewhere that they make the same amount of money from 100 streams as they do 1 actual sale, which is the ratio RIAA is using, isn't it? This is the way of the future. I can definitely see the argument for perhaps having separate certifications for sales and streaming, but I applaud Billboard and RIAA for finally acknowledging such a significant component of how the public consumes music in this day and age. Didn't Billboard used to include jukebox plays in its formula? At least as far as the Hot 100 is concerned, I have no idea why people get so up in arms about the inclusion of stuff like YouTube (although I understand the point about parodies or only song clips) while having no problem with the weight that radio holds.
