I see no one has started this thread, yet. I'm away for the holiday. Can't listen to the show. Someone else will have to fill in the extras.
Pitbull guest hosts this week. I get the feeling I won't be missing much.

And that's five weeks in a row that "What About Love" has been an extra. I'm sure that's a record. At least it finally should make the chart next week; it's in the mid-20's on MB and this week's chart seems further behind than usual (or is it just me?) "We Can't Stop" has been played three weeks straight, and also should be on the next chart.
No surprise about Pitbull playing three of his own songs as extras, except maybe "Outta Nowhere" which could be viewed as an unofficial Breakout since it was just released and hasn't charted yet. (He also could have Two for One'd himself by playing one of those after "Live It Up" or "Feel This Moment".)
With "Scream and Shout" dropping off, that leaves Macklemore/Ryan Lewis and Bruno Mars with three songs each in the countdown. Macklemore and Ryan Lewis pull off the rare feat of starting and ending the countdown, with hits at #40 and #1.

OK, this week's chart is a mess. "What About Love" is in its fifth straight week as an extra of sorts, and I do believe Ryan put that as a Breakout way too early. I wanted to see "We Can't Stop" enter but no. Bruno Mars shouldn't be in the Top 10 and Demi should have taken a bigger drop from her position last week. Jason Derulo and Imagine Dragons should have entered the Top 10, Calvin's latest one in the Top 20. Krewella should have departed this week, even though I love their song. Britney's new one entered a little bit too early. :O

They really had to play "Outta Nowhere" right before the #1 song (and one song after yet another Pitbull extra)?

How & WHY does ANYONE with the smallest ounce of chart knowledge spend a single second on this utter Abomination of what was ONCE a pure staple of our lives! In a perfect world they would NEVER call THIS crap (I'm being waaaayyyy too nice) American Top 40...It continues to soil the legacy forever. It has me stumped why in the world you guys post this trash every week WITHOUT FAIL...just has my mind blown. I run my own chart since 1990 & I'm wondering how Carson Daly will do with this dalydownload.cbslocal.com/Haven't heard yet BUT it can't be any worse than what AT40 has become. Please if you listen weekly, get some MUCH NEEDED help for yourselves. I don't know you personally but, I KNOW you deserve SO MUCH better.

Should be a pretty active week next week on both charts.

We all agree that there are occasionally some faults with the AT40 chart. But for the most part it is accurate as it is compiled by Mediabase. The recurrent situation is what needs to be improved upon. But let me ask you this eric. Just how many people follow your chart that you have had since 1990? My guess is not many. That's great tbat you have your own chart, but so do many thousands of others. And until you obtain even 10% of the listeners that AT40 reaches, you don't have a lot of room trashing all the people that still listen to AT40. Say what you want about Ryan and/or the chart. But don't go stepping all over the terrific posters here that still follow that show after all these years!

I do feel the same frustration as ericcase having grown up listening to Casey and Shadoe and knowing it used to be so much better. The current AT40 production team manipulate the chart too much: - Always at least one debut (and almost always a debut at no. 40) - No re-entries - deliberate spacing of recurrents
I don't mind having recurrent rules in place (like the 20/26 rule Shadoe used) if they want a fresher survey, so long as what is in the top 40 isn't manipulated to suit station programmer preferences.

Good chart week. Only problem is WAY TOO MUCH Pitbull songs and hearing Austin Mahone again, as well as some artists don't seem to be in the correct spots. Shouldn't Jason Derulo and Bruno Mars "Treasure" be switched? "Treasure" never reached the Top 10 on MB. I've always enjoyed listening to AT40 and I always will. I will always be a loyal listener of this great show.

I don't disagree with how you and eric feel about this. Agreed regarding the chart issues, and for me at least, trying to make the chart a little fresher outside of the occasional fast droppers that occur once in awhile. For every 20 spot dropper there are at least ten other songs that sit in the same position for a month or two and/or spend well over a year on the charts. Something needs to be done to address this, but it won't happen as long as their affiliates object to this. My issue with eric was with his questioning the judgement of those people here who regularly listen to AT40. If eric can get his chart onto a weekly show on at least 20 or 30 major affiliates, I would be all for listening to his show. But right now AT40 is pretty much the only show accessible for most of us, not counting Rick Dees who we don't really know how much longer his show we'll be around. And we all know Rick's chart is a far bigger mess than the AT40 chart is!

Pitbull wasn't horrible as host, but he wasn't very good either. They laughed at his jokes but I didn't. And as was noted there were way too many songs by him, especially in the last hour. I finally found out that Pitch Perfect is the name of a movie. Scream and Shout falls off, but the other S and S song moves up nicely to #34. AT 40, for all its flaws, is still quite good, and it's really the only current countdown show I can hear in Miami. This morning on AT 40: the 70's, Casey said that (as of July 1977) Undercover Angel by Alan O'Day was only the third fantasy song to hit #1. The others were Angie Baby by Helen Reddy, and Elton John's Lucy In The Sky. Anyone care to update? I'm looking forward to Ryan's return next week.

It's usually a crapshoot on what you will get with a guest host, especially one who normally does not have radio experience. Pitbull was okay, and better than some, but not great. Serviceable would probably best describe his hosting skills. And yes, AT40 is still good and the best countdown going these days. At least Ryan is not totally devoid of giving out facts regarding the songs and artists.

I thought Pitbull did OK, though he seemed rather wordy; in some places he spoke quite fast, and others for a long time (the final outro was MUCH longer than Ryan's usually is.) Some of what he said was also quite risque for non-song AT40 content, but that's not surprising coming from him. It was amusing for a one-week guest appearance, though I think it would wear thin if he were hosting every week.

Thanks. Sorry I was unable to help as I am not able (right now) to go online at home (I mentioned that in the AT40 '70s/'80s thread on Friday). I posted this on a library computer.
Hopefully I will be back online in time for this week's show.
