This is awesome. LIIC has some of the toughest, strongest Donna vocals. I like this remix. It sounds like a lot of care went into the remix album. Not sure how the IFL remixes will work since the original is still an amazing piece of work.

I, for one, cannot wait for this release to come out. I know some Donna fans don't want any of her songs remixed, but, I say, remix away! I love the "Love To Love You, Baby" remix and I can't wait to hear the rest. I wish there was more than one unreleased track, but I'm glad that there is one:) I like the "Love Is In Control" remix also.

I love the "Love To Love You, Baby" remix and I can't wait to hear the rest. I wish there was more than one unreleased track, but I'm glad that there is one:) I like the "Love Is In Control" remix also. I am one of those fans who is afraid of how some of these might turn out. ;) The last thing I want is for it to be Donna's divine vocals to be sandwiched between vacuum cleaner noises, which is what many of the remixes coming out nowadays sound like. I was hoping for some of the unreleased, rare ones from the past like the Welcome, Junior Vasquez & Joe Carrano mix of "My Life", the Tony Moran & Jody Den Broeder mix of "Valley Of The Moon", and of course any others we don't already know about. Perhaps that will happen later on. Here is a live recording of the "Love To Love You Baby" mix by Giorgio Moroder from when it was played out by Giorgio himself. www.youtube.com/watch?v=W-_pdlkGGZAI do like how that one turned out. I am more accustomed to the slower, sensual original, but this gives it that futuristic "I Feel Love" sound that somehow works here.

We shall see:) Some of the unreleased tracks are floating around, but the quality is nothing like it could be on an official release. All of this could be in the works. Chromeo & Oliver really werked Love Is In Control. Fantastic mix. I have faith that Verve will do right by these songs. Nothing is replacing the original versions, but I welcome any of these projects that keep her music fresh and alive.

There is now a Deluxe Edition with more remixes. itunes.apple.com/us/album/love-to-love-you-donna-deluxe/id717509084?ign-mpt=uo%3D2I was disappointed by the new mix of "On The Radio", Benga's "I Feel Love" mix, and Duke Dumont's "Dim All The Lights". They hardly used any vocals and the few they did are buried under effects. And for some unknown reason, they put the instrumental version of Laidback Luke's mix of "MacArthur Park" on the standard edition instead of the vocal mix which is on the deluxe edition only. It was released for purchase yesterday on iTunes.

The response to the remix album has been anywhere from somewhat negative to very negative from some in the music industry. These are direct, unedited quotes from Facebook.
Abel Aguilera of Rosabel "Good Morning Peeps, and hope your weekend was great, and if not, look forward to the next one. Now, my week starts ANGRY at what is going on with the records labels and A&R whatevers, and Promoters almost everywhere nowadays. Sometimes a "CLASSIC" should be left alone, BUT, if you are gonna have it REMIXED, it doesn't mean you have to DESTROY what took REAL musicians, technicians & Singers hours and days of creating a masterpiece !!! Lately, I've seen nothing but DESTRUCTION to some of our Most popular classics in Dance History. IT IS PATHETIC ! Just because "a Remixer" is the hottest in a particular genre, does not mean he can just take anything and remix it !! Ralphi and myself, have turn down SO MANY remixes and artist because we will not just do it for the money or to just to take the job, regardless who the artist is. Now please correct me if I'm wrong, but did they just DESTROY the whole Donna Summer remix album, (with the exception of the Frankie Knuckles remixes of Bad Girls) or did "Someone leave the cake out in the rain" for so long, that shit drowned ? I'm sorry, but certain artist do not need to be remixed in that form that you will actually piss off their entire fan base of DECADES to please the modern children of whatever you wanna call music today, that have no clue what real music is. Those artist will not be acknowlegded because of a new remix. But this is not just the Donna Summer project, it's also on the entire collection of the Salsoul Records catalog, some Sylvester, Michael Jackson, Etc, etc,....I AM 100% SURE, those incredibly missed and never forgotten deceased artist would never approve of some of these horrible remixes. My point is, GET THE RIGHT OR "APPROPRIATE" REMIXERS FOR THE RIGHT ARTSTS/ SONGS BEFORE YOU DESTROY AN ORIGINAL MASTERPIECE. Back then, there were no "Remixes" and you had to swallow what they gave you, and it worked !! This is why we always get mash ups. Labels only see one way, "RADIO", and fuck the rest, because the others, "Club dj's" are doing it for free......... So this is what I get in "Private" responses from "Certain" people in the business......"The circuit doesn't have 15,000 people at an Event".... So there you haven't it folks. So my guess is, House Remixers, and clubs, STRAIGHT OR GAY, don't count in this business anymore. It's whatever that's "Popular" that counts now. So from now on, I guess I will remain being myself, in my little and most appreciated world of House music lovers, and be the artist I am, TRUE TO MYSELF, cause I'm not playing shit that everyone has to be forced to play, since I AM NOT A JUKE BOX, and because "House doesn't cut it" around the world anymore, But I guess us Tribal house, techy, housy, deep, or progressive djs will still travel around the world playing in our little world, cause we don't count, so I go back and forget to support the "Popular" and support the ones that serve their best on my floor, and draw the line there. Djs, please be true to your sound, what you like, and be the artist you want to be, regardless of what genre of music you are into. Cause if you do change into what the others want, you're just in this for the money honey, and not an artist, just another juke box in a lap top form........... And BTW, I only express my opinion clearly for those interested, the rest of you, chao baby....."
Remixer, DJ, and former model DjMark DeMarko (formerly known as DJ DeMarko!) "I just posted about that yesterday Abel and couldn’t agree MORE! That Dj/Remixer a.k.a (LBL) “MASSACRED” MAC ARTHUR PARK"! I literally DELETED it after it played for no more than a minute! I wouldn't play it to drown out the neighbors cat in heat - MUCH LESS THE NEIGHBORS IN HEAT AND THEY AINT A PRETTY SIGHT! Some of these people in A&R who think they have a sense of "POWER" obviously have NO SENCE OF HEARING A GREAT REMIX - much less a descent one! STOP TRYING TO DICTATE WHAT THE PEOPLE SHOULD LISTEN TO!! I understand your radio version is what pays the bills - but thats only because THATS WHAT YOU PUT OUT THERE! Not everything played in the clubs should be on the radio and vice versa - nevertheless not every masterpiece is see (or heard) by the masses! No one can say for ONE SECOND that since the early days from DJ from Knuckles to Morales, Vasquez, Calderone and Rauhofer and of course ROSABEL as well as myself - HASN’T HAD ANY INFLUENCE ON THOSE SAME EXACT POP TARTS and radio gaga’s since the ‘80s! Because if it didn’t - The A&R’s would have the jobs they have today!! They are not the one’s in the clubs week after week witnessing the reactions the crowd gives to the remixes of the artist, otherwise those same artists WOULDN’T BE AS BIG AS THEY ARE!! With the EXCEPTION of Madonna’s first album everything else she’s ever done has been remixed from hell to highwater and TRUST!! When she has a song comin’ out, yeah we listen to the original mix - but we cannot wait to hear - WHAT THE REMIX IS ALL ABOUT!! AND THAT MY DEAR, IS THE STATE OF THE REMIX WORLD TODAY!! You want people to hear and love your artist, you bettah make sure it’s IN THE REMIX!"
Remixer, DJ, and record label owner Cajjmere Wray " Abel I'm with you 100% on this one. All too often these record labels are ruining works that should not be touched by any means.
One of the saddest stories I heard in the past few years with reference to a remix album being put together, was about an A&R guy who was so clueless as to who should be involved in the project he was spear-heading, that he went to his 12 year old son for help. He asked him, "who are you listening to on your iPod that's making popular dance music?" So of course this kid rambles off a bunch of names who were totally wrong for such a task, but they were top charting guys on Beatport and iTunes, so conveniently they all wound up being on the album.
As much as it's been nice to see dance music get some mainstream attention again as it did during the disco era, I believe it's also now being taken advantage of and cheapened by the excessive push on radio. Don't get me wrong, there are guys out there in the studio who are getting it right, but also wayyyyyyy too many who are getting it wrong."
DJ and remixer Peter Presta "It's because the A&R's were sh!t & still are SH!T today!! The A&R's know absolutely "DICK" & are trying to keep there job thinking they know music by saying WE NEED TO REMIX THIS RECORD!! It's amazing. . . Uhmm Peter, "Can you please raise the kick??" & Then when it blows up, They say, "Ya see Peter, It blew up because I have told you to raise the kick 1 DB meanwhile I didn't!!" HAAAA!! This is why I ALWAYS did the overseas shit!! Shame on these tired ass A&R's in the states!! FIRE 'EM ALL!!"
Remixer, DJ, and veteran record label owner Jerome Farley "All hail the masters like Ralphi&Abel, Tony and the many other remixers who only touch what they can make even better with their golden touches - the master Peter would be disgusted by that Donna Summer Remix album I bet..."

I love the whole album, especially hot stuff and bad girls (in their new slick digs)...and working the midnight shift is a revelation. But I'm still not sure about dim all the lights. It's too much of a reconstruction to accept at first listen.

I rarely like new dance mixes of old classics. I think in this case, these songs are such classics in their original versions, and there's such a sentimentality towards Donna's music after her death, that people find this kind of project borderline offensive. That's the reason I think "Love Is In Control" probably works the best. It was a decent sized hit for her when it came out, but it hasn't endured and has been largely forgotten. The remix serves as kind of a reminder of a forgotten hit (sounds like the kind of song that would have been a UK hit several years ago if they looped the chorus). Even though I don't mind it, it just makes me want to go back and play the original though.
By the way, they released a video for the "Love Is In Control" remix.

Donna's husband Bruce Sudano has given an interview about the remix album. Bruce Sudano On The “Love To Love You Donna” Remix Album – EDM News – EDM CultureBy Magnetic Here is a Q&A from Bruce Sudano, singer-songwriter, producer and arranger who was married to the late Donna Summer. Here he discusses his contribution to Love To Love You Donna—the new remix album on Verve Records which celebrates the life and voice of the “queen of disco” and Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee. MAGNETIC RECOMMENDS: Verve Announces Love To Love You Donna Remix LP LET’S TALK ABOUT DONNA’S LEGACY AND HOW YOU CHOSE TO HONOR HER WORK? Soon after Donna passed away, I began to recognize the desire and responsibility of caring for Donna’s legacy. My kids and I spoke about it at length, ‘What were the priorities, what would have the most impact and how would things layout time wise, going into the future?’ My thought was and is, whenever possible work with friends–very talented friends–but people who knew and loved Donna. HOW DID THE LOVE TO LOVE YOU DONNA PROJECT TAKE FORM? “One night at dinner in Malibu with David [Foster, Verve Chairman] and his wife Yolanda, I said I had an idea and asked for a meeting with his staff. I presented Verve with two ideas, a remix album, and an album of Donna hits–I already had a list of contemporary singers and Donna songs. I knew both ideas were long shots but for completely different reasons; however, it quickly became apparent that the album of new recordings was an unattainable goal. So onto the remix record–something Donna and I had discussed for years. WHAT WERE THE NEXT STEPS IN THE CREATION OF LOVE TO LOVE YOU DONNA? Well, there was one major problem…Universal couldn’t find the master recordings of Donna’s catalogue! Hard to believe but true, so we decided to search again anyway. In the end, as unbelievable as this sounds, Giorgio [Moroder] found some of the masters in his laundry room.” “For all the other vocals there’s a new technology that allows you to isolate and separate the vocal from a mix. It wasn’t cheap, but we tried and the results were mixed. Sometimes it worked great, sometimes it didn’t work as well, which was the case with ‘Working the Midnight Shift’ (the Donna shadow controversy), but I really wanted that song on the record, as well as ‘Our Love’–after all these were songs she also wrote. I was pushing for more obscure songs but for obvious reasons the label and some of the remixers wanted the hits. STAY IN THE KNOW! SIGN UP FOR MAGNETIC’S NEWSLETTER HOW INVOLVED WERE YOU IN THE SELECTION OF THE REMIXERS? I wasn’t involved specifically in the selection of the remixers–this complicated task fell to the very capable Dahlia Ambach-Caplin and Randall Poster, both of whom are experts in the genre and know all the players. This was no easy process either. They did it brilliantly, casting the record with a diverse group of contemporary remixers to re-imagine Donna’s songs for the current dance scene. It would have to cover many bases in order to hit all the different styles and moods of the scene currently in vogue, but they got it done. Donna was always about pushing the envelope and never wanted to repeat herself. She wanted to be in the moment, or even better a step ahead, so we knew not to play it safe in our approach. But at the same time, we had an understanding that some Donna purists might be put off. My thought always is, the originals exist. This record is about bringing Donna music into the current dance world, much of which is ambient and deconstructed and hard for older ears to digest, especially for those married to the originals. To them I say, try to imagine yourself as a 24-year old hitting the clubs! If you can’t do that, put the record on when you’re cleaning the house on a Saturday, it works perfectly! I know, I tried it.” ANY FAVORITE TRACKS ON LOVE TO LOVE YOU DONNA? I like all the tracks on the record obviously, but if I had to choose a favorite, today I’d say ‘Dim All The Lights,’ OMG!! I think the album works as a whole from start to finish–it takes you on a trip with different flourishes and remembrances of Donna along the way. I’ll tell you this, it’s always a challenge to reinterpret a masterpiece, but you have to try and separate yourself from it and view it as something new. LET’S TALK ABOUT “LA DOLCE VITA.” WHAT MADE YOU DECIDE TO RELEASE THE TRACK NOW? From the very beginning of the project, it was my desire to include a new song, especially for the fans. I knew they wanted new Donna as much as I did, but the label wasn’t convinced. I sent them a demo of the song ‘La Dolce Vita’ early on and they said they didn’t feel it would work. Somewhere along the way I brought it up again but they still weren’t feeling it. Finally, as we were getting ready to master the album, Giorgio [Moroder] asked me if I had any new Donna songs that he could possibly include on a project of his. I took this as an opportunity to approach the company again and said, ‘What if Giorgio would produce the new song?’ They liked this because it bookended the project in a beautiful way. Abel Aguilera announced that him and Ralphi Rosario (as Rosabel) have done some remixes of "MacArthur Park". No word on a release date yet, but hopefully soon. Digitally delivered: -Rosabel Club (8:28) -Rosabel Mixshow (6:43) -Rosabel Dark Dub (6:40) -Rosabel Radio Mix (3:38)
These are significantly better than the Laidback Luke versions. They retain much of what made the original so wonderful from the verses to the decadent extended orchestral breaks. They are melodic and contain no weird noisy parts. Unfortunately, the biggest issue I have is that amazing bridge has been omitted, just as the short 7" edit did when the song was originally released. The longer 7" mix kept it but didn't have the final chorus after it. I really do wish they had the chance to remix the full 17 minute "MacArthur Park Suite" which also contained "One Of A Kind" and "Heaven Knows". The suite is still brilliant in its original form today. The Dark Dub bears absolutely no resemblance to the other 3 versions as it is exactly what the name indicates. But it contains some brand new Donna spoken word parts that remained unused in the original song and its edits and the other versions for this project.

There were additional remixes by Disco Fries and Frank Lamboy that were digitally delivered. I thought both were pleasant enough, but neither contained the full vocals.

My favorite are the Frank Lamboy mixes. I just love what he did. Rosabel a definite close second.
