So anyone heard this yet? It's got 24 spins so far on country. ---- tennessean.com/entertainment/music/archives/05/01/66334774.shtml?Element_ID=66334774The album doesn't come out until late spring or early summer, but a single called I Play Chicken (With the Train) is being given out to radio tastemakers at this week's Country Radio Seminar. The radio professionals already know about Cowboy Troy, who moved here last fall, because of his association with Big & Rich. He is a part of the Muzik Mafia collective that includes Gretchen Wilson, and he is the first act signed to the Mafia's Raybaw Records, a Warner Bros. imprint. ''I would bet that if Big Kenny and John Rich are involved with this, they're not going to put out a piece of (junk),'' said Gregg Swedbert, ClearChannel's VP of programming in Minnesota and the Dakotas. Swedbert is in town for the radio seminar. ''There are people who are purists who absolutely would not like the format to be any more complicated than an early Hank Williams record,'' Swedbert continued. ''But things change. The audience will tell us whether this is something that can get played or not. All we can do is expose people to new sounds. If they like them, good. If they say 'This isn't country,' then you've got to go with that.''

Well I've heard this now, but I think he'll need something a bit stronger. Definitely could love this eventually though.

I hope this goes away and never ever ever comes back. Muzik Mafia has almost single-handedly made me hate country music.

My ears are bleeding after that. Except for Gretchen Wilson, I wish the rest of the Musik Mafia would go away. Their "music" is painful and watching is like watching a 40 car pile up on the interstate.

This is an example of why people make fun of Country Music.

Country radio isn't buying into this so far.
On Mediabase it's fallen from 51 last week to 61.
Spins are down 37 from last week.

I'm new to these boards. What is Mediabase and how do I check it out? Mediabase monitors radio airplay. If you go down to the announcements forum on the main page, you can get a link to the mediabase charts for all the formats. As for this song, terrible would be a kind thing to say. Its that bad.

I don't think country music can get any lower than this. I grew up listening to it and it makes me sick to think this is where it's at. I am a fan of Rap and R&B I'm just outraged that they would call it country. I think Cowboy Troy is a joke and there is no way country radio will play this. The only good thing to come out of the Muzik Mafia is Gretchen Wilson(she's country) and I promise you this she will be the only one around in 3 or 4 years when all this fake you know what goes away.

What's the current status of this song? #65 on mediabase 24/7. It's not looking like its moving anywhere. This song has to be one of the dumbest things I have ever heard. The only reason people know him is because of Big and Rich. This is country not "HickHop" as he likes to call it. This really makes country look pathetic. It's giving it bad name.

I heard it for the first time last night on Nashville Star. When I did, I think I threw up a little in my mouth. This is pretty close to rock bottom.

If this Cowboy Troy guy and his "songs" are country, then Shania Twain is the most Traditional Country singer to have ever lived and Celine Dion is a Bluegrass singer.
Cowboy Troy's initials should be switched. This song and his whole act are Total Crap.
The same goes for Big & Rich and that Hot Apple Pie group.

I don't know if I agree with you about Gretchen being around for years to come, but I think it is ironic how her connections have managed to get such garbage on the radio. Her legacy will be an interesting one. She is the industry's most beloved favorite at the moment, but, ironically, she has played a big part in helping the careers of two of the worst acts in country music history (Big & Rich and Cowboy Troy). Without the Gretchen connections, I often wonder if Big & Rich and Cowboy Troy would have made it more than 1 day in Nashville. Something tells me they definitely wouldn't have made it. It definitely pays to have connections.

Actually, without John Rich of Big and Rich, Gretchen wouldn't have a career. I think that Big and Rich would have made it, or atleast Rich as a songwriter.

I just think that Big & Rich, and now Cowboy Troy, have been the ones that have benefited from the Gretchen fan club in the industry. When I say that, I am referring to Big & Rich having a "cameo" role for Gretchen and Cowboy Troy in their debut video. Plus, Big & Rich were introduced to Country radio, in my area, as buddies of Gretchen and the ones behind "Redneck Woman." That's how they got their start on radio here. Now this Cowboy Troy guy is getting the same treatment. I acknowledge that their introduction may have been different in other areas. That's just my perspective on it.

Somebody likes Big & Rich. They've sold 2 million CD's and they're supposedly selling out shows. Personally, I don't get it. They suck IMO.
