It is what the so-called "MuzikMafia" members (Gretchen, Big & Rich and others) call country. Well, they actually call it "Hick-Hop".

Wtf??? I'm so tired of these trashy novelty acts. Big and Rich, Cowboy Troy, and Gretchen Wilson should be banned from music.

It's 50 Cent's side project! He's trying to expand his Candy Shop horizons just a lil' bit I threw up a little bit in my mouth at the Nashville Star performance too. I had no idea who this guy was and now I do. And he sucks. Badly.

Strong debut for his CD. 51,408 units in his first week.
That's more than I would have expected.

Strong debut for his CD. 51,408 units in his first week. That's more than I would have expected. According to CMT.com, the CD debuts at #2 on Billboard Country this week. Here is what they say: Had it not been for the simultaneous arrival of a superstar's new release, a "6-foot-5, 260-pound, black rappin' cowboy from Dallas, Texas" would claim the No. 1 spot on Billboard's country albums chart. The phrase quoted above is how John Rich of Big & Rich often introduces Cowboy Troy, a newcomer who just sold 51,000 copies of his debut album, Loco Motive, during the first week of release. Granted, the week's top country album sold almost six times that amount, but is anybody truly taken aback when a Toby Keith album debuts at No. 1? He's done it again, of course, with Honkytonk University. Although Cowboy Troy's "I Play Chicken With the Train" remains one of CMT's most popular videos, the single did not fare nearly as well at country radio. A flurry of national media coverage and a high visibility with Big & Rich in the MuzikMafia were instrumental in boosting his initial sales. And there's no doubt the rest of the music industry will be watching closely to see if Cowboy Troy can sustain five-digit sales in the coming weeks. ~.~ I agree that these numbers will drop dramatically. This stuff has some limited fun as a novelty thing, but long term, it just won't do...

The album received 3.5 stars from Rollingstone.
Cowboy Troy Loco Motive
Originally released: 2005 Warner Bros. Nashville
Believe it or not, six-foot-five black cowboy rappers from Texas are still a rarity in country music. So meet Cowboy Troy, the self-proclaimed "blackneck" who brings the hick-hop. He's a protege of country outlaws Big and Rich, who produced Loco Motive after introducing Troy on their Horse of a Different Color. He raps in different languages -- Spanish, Japanese, Mandarin Chinese -- but he sounds right at home with the country fiddles of the excellent party track "I Play Chicken With the Train."

What little credibility "Rolling Stone" reviews may have had is now completely gone.

Seeing as I like all types of music, I tried to be open minded about this cd.
I listened to it on CMT.com and I couldn't imagine actually spending any money on buying it !
Not just because it's rap or hick-hop or whatever, I actually do have some R&B & pop & rap cd's in my collection. (Not a lot, but some).
The simple fact is, the lyrics are simplistic. There are too many repetative choruses. He sings 2 versus and the chorus is just repeated multiple times.
He's obviously from Dallas, because he mentions it about 14 times in the lyrics (that's nice to give a shout out to Dallas and all, but how many times does it have to be mentioned ????)
Also, I don't see why Big & Rich have to sing background vocals on almost every song. I know they are buddies and all, but I think some of the songs would benifit from a B&R break !
I do admit to laughing at the song "Ain't Broke Yet" as I thought the lyrics were funny. But other than that, I see a lot of people buying this because of the novelty of it (like it was mentioned in an earlier post)
But, I also forsee this cd being available in the "USED" section of music stores very soon.

Sales of his CD are down about 50% this week. 24,682 units
Total for two weeks: 76,090
Still way more than I ever would have thought.
