This is now up at AllAccess. After one listen, I don't like it at all. Nothing I've heard from the new album has really impressed me very much. www.allaccess.com/wma/alanblue.wma

I don't like this either. "Monday Moring Church" is the only single I've even thought was okay.

ALAN JACKSON The Talkin' Song Repair Blues Producer(s): Keith Stegall Writer(s): D. Linde Publisher(s): EMI Blackwood Music; Rising Gorge Music (BMI) Genre: COUNTRY Label/Catalog Number: Arista 82876-68850 (CD promo) Source: Billboard Magazine Originally Reviewed: April 02, 2005
Alan Jackson is well-known not only for great music, but for his love of family and appreciation for automobiles (previously demonstrated on such hits as "Mercury Blues" and "Drive"). Which is precisely why this cleverly written Dennis Linde tune is such a perfect fit. The song finds Jackson dealing with a shady mechanic who begins reciting a litany of car repair troubles that ends with an $800 bill. When the mechanic turns out to be an aspiring songwriter, Jackson has a chance to exact a little justice, by working on his song. This single boasts some of Linde's most inventive lyrics, and Jackson delivers each line with a tongue-in-cheek attitude that is sure to elicit smiles. Between his personality-packed performance and a radio-ready chorus, "The Talkin' Song Repair Blues" sounds like another hit for this veteran chart-topper. One more reason to pick up a copy of his excellent album, "What I Do."—DEP

Ok, after my first listen I'm not impressed at all. It won't matter though. It'll still probably do well. Gimme "Hot Rod Lincoln"* by Commander Cody and the Lost Planet Airmen over this anyday. * Midi version and lyrics: users.cis.net/sammy/hotrod_l.htm

Agreed. Nothing I'm heard from his new album really satisfies my taste buds.

I like it! It's good to hear something light-hearted from Alan. There are a lot of musical terms in the song (melodic structure, dotted 8th notes, augmented 5th) which I just went over this past semester in Music Theory class.
My prediction: Top 5

I love Dennis Linde, the writer, but this is really bad. I haven't liked anything from Alan since Who I Am. I always thought Hole In The Wall would have been a smash.

It probabbly won't hit #1, but it seems a cinch to hit the top 10.

The song seems to generate some harsh reactions by those surveyed on Bullseye Research's Callout America chart... www.bullsi.com/CalloutAmerica/Country/05-17-05/The combined total of 13.8% in the Dislike/Strong Dislike categories puts it among the songs with the highest (meaning, worst) numbers in that statistic. A 'Remember When', this won't turn out to be, but I"m sure they realistically didn't expect it to perform like that monster hit. His label might be bothered by those higher than expected negatives, though.

Alan's negatives on the callout research improved greatly this week. His Dislike/Strong Dislike totals fell from 13.8% to 7.8%, and he moved from #28 to #23. His bullet took a big hit today on Mediabase though. A swing in the wrong direction by about 100 spins. He's -42 today.

Personally, I like it - but I'm a little biased! LOL. I agree it's not one of his better songs - but it is cute in it's own way.
Speaking of Alan - does anyone here ever remember him being on the old TV show 'Home Improvement'? I used to watch that show all the time and never saw AJ on it. My son recently started watching it and saw the episode with Alan twice in the last couple months. The Strayhorns are on with him and he sings "Mercury Blues".

Does anybody know what was AJ's last single that didn't make the top 10 before this one?
