If a new single drops within the next few weeks and is a legitimate mega hit she can definitely release some time in October and be fine. November is not the only month available, especially if she does a surprise digital release and have the physical come out a few weeks later.

I kind of feel like this will be a Gold album from her, sales wise. I'm sure they'll do what Ariana's team did and overship for the plaque.

With One Direction, Justin Bieber and Adele dropping in November, her team kind of screwed themselves. They waited too long. Now, her grabbing a #1 album is going to be extremely difficult. And without any music currently out, the odds are stacked against her. Really curious what the plan is. It took Rihanna seven tries to even get one #1 album. I don't think this is what would hold her back from a release now (they could have gone for a slow week in August if that was all they wanted). She and/or her label are just not ready yet. I agree with Keelzit that she could release in December and be ok, if the promo is handled correctly. Right now that would be my only concern, a half-assed and messy rollout. I kind of would prefer her to cobble together some of what she has recorded and drop a mixtape on us to finish the year out. That way we get something new and it keeps her name out there, but there's no pressure or commercial expectation.

So what you're saying is this is business as usual for Rihanna. To be perfectly honest, I don't think she wants an album out because I don't think she wants to promote it. She's never been super into her work unless it was taking a few hours out of her day to get stoned out of her mind and shoot a commercial for some designer none of her stans can afford; but if there's an ounce of truth to that report of what it was like to shadow her, then she really doesn't give a s**t about promo or touring. I think I've talked about this before, but it's obvious via her live performances while on tour that she doesn't give a f**k LOL. I agree with both of these things, but that makes it quite the puzzle then. - If Ri didn't want to put an album out, why offer anything at all? She could have just kept us waiting. There might be a specific number of albums she has to release stated in her contract. I don't know how often they do this in the 21st century, but I remember Michael Jackson put "scraps" out in the form of BOTDF and History because he wanted to be rid of Sony. There were a certain number of albums and/or videos he had to release for him to become a free agent if he didn't want to buy himself out. I think Rihanna wants to release an album, or at least continue releasing music in some capacity. She just doesn't want the associated pressure that goes along with it. It could be a similar situation to what Britney's doing with random promo singles and an album whenever she feels like it, but then when will Rihanna ever feel like promoting exactly? The thing about Kanye is that there's probably some kind of contractual obligation set in place. I don't know exactly how much control an executive producer gets over a record, but I imagine if its Kanye then he's going to want to hold onto the reigns pretty tight. I sort of understand that much (although I think hiring his highness was a terrible move because the man can't even get his own album out). What I don't understand is that she has all of this material that the label could, at the very least, filter into an EP for the sake of having something out. I don't know if I believe that a lack of material was ever an issue, though. It's been what, almost three years since her last album now? Maybe two, I lost track, but either way she's bound to have recorded a lot of material in that time. I think there's some truth to the fact that the album was pushed back after the lukewarm reception to the songs, especially considering who she began working with after the fact. I wouldn't be surprised if there's some conflicts between Rihanna and her label about the sound, either.Sorry to double quote you. 1) I don't understand the part about "pressure". She came onto the scene as a musical "artist"/singer, so she shouldn't be mad that people are waiting for the default. While I do understand the pressure of having to succeed with releases, I cannot get down with the possibility that she doesn't want to promote music. (I hope this was coherent.) 2) There probably is a contract with Kanye. If he is a factor in holding up the album, I can tell you right now it's because he's still trying to promote his hobo-chic fashions while renting his booty out for a come up. 3) This last part made me think of this: FFS, BBHMM, and AO are all totally different sounds. Not to say that an album/era cannot have multiple genres at once, but I cannot see FFS, BBHMM, and AO as a "family". They do not relate at all, whether in subject matter, beat, aesthetic - none of them have that "this whole group belongs on one album" trait. At least not in my opinion. That said, this all might be a case of her/her label throwing s**t out to see what sticks, which would fuel the theory that nobody is happy with the sound or the mechanics behind the album. Edit: @antigonerising A mixtape is a wonderful idea BUT she's too high profile. The people behind her would be too arrogant to let her release a mixtape. (Again, I hope this was coherent. I'm sleepy.)

She had so much fun on stage and that gives me hope that she still wants this.

Bitch still got it. It's mind-blowing watching her perform Unfaithful now opposed to the live performances of that song back in 2006, she's come a really long way.

Perhaps we're all on the same page but to clarify, I don't mean there is a low quantity of available songs. But obviously the 3 singles they had lined up didn't set the world on fire like she previously has. I don't think they have found those 2-3 smash singles they want. Nearly every major hit of the past year has been offered to her first. They've found the "smash" singles, but Rihanna passed on them. I think she really wants this record to emulate the "fuck the system" path that Jay, Beyoncé and Kanye represent. The path where radio hits are passé and projects value artistic vision more than chart acknowledgement.

That was great. I'm still looking forward to this and still have faith that it will get released before the end of the year. Even if it won't sell as well as past efforts, there's no way her new team is gonna let her just get bogged down by something like a release date. Her hit catalog is so outstanding now.
When you consider just how young she still is with her achievements, there's still more than enough time for another Loud type era. We've moved decently past the last huge pop wave that she rode as well, but give it about 3 more years at it'll be creeping back that way. No reason she can't capitalize then again.

From what I understood, the answers will only be unveiled when the magazine hits stands on October 27th.

I tried to watch that Rock In Rio concert, but I'm just tired of waiting for the album and I don't like the short versions of her songs. I love this chick too much, she playing with my heart...I need a new Rihanna era in my life!

http://instagr.am/p/8e2VceED_f She and Beyoncé kill me covering all these high profile magazines (ie: promo) and not releasing new music to go along with it.

Rihanna is having a viewing in LA today for r8's album artwork. It's going to be like an art gallery. I think it's safe to say the album is finished. I doubt she will release after November 20th. I'll bet money a surprise release will happen this month. My bet is on the Friday (October 30th) before Halloween. A viewing for art work but no music. Screams Kanye. LOL.

Lmfao NOT an "artwork viewing"!!!
As for the album possibly getting a surprise release... she might as well I guess. At this point, I just hope I'll like more than half of it. Of all the songs that have been released, one way or another, by now there isn't one that I love - and that's a first for me with a Rih album. There was a snippet of a Prince-like track posted a while back that sounded pretty promising, but who even knows how much of the material recorded ended up on the album?
ETA: I really hope she has worked on more songs with the producers who did "Towards The Sun," though. That song's production sounded pretty exciting/mysterious to me, I'd be interested to hear more of that.

@ her doing a viewing for album artwork, but then again... Anyhow, I'm glad that the whees are somehow still moving forward on this. I always expected this to come out by the end of the year though. When you consider how many parties have a connection to this project and obligations, I don't think they'd want to push all of this into yet another year.

Here's hoping it's more than just photos of her smoking again. If I recall correctly, that's what made up the artwork for her last two albums.
