So her team passed on Selena Gomez's new single too. Which will probably become a big hit lol Same Old Love? If so, I'm not mad. Cute for Selena but Rih can come a lot harder.

I feel like at least 50% of the Disney girls' discographies are Rihanna rejects by now.

Travis Scott's album was one of the best of 2015. Here's hoping he can give her something hotter than a song that ends up in Selena Gomez's discography.

Why is she doing everything but dropping an album?

Rih is expanding her brand and venturing outside of music, doing things she loves and getting ha coins. She has said she does not plan on making music forever. Moreover, she now has her own label and a lot more control over her music, and her career, so she'll do things her way.
The album will come eventually, I'm done speculating or having meltdowns over it tbh. It's unnecessary and pointless at this point imo.

So many things wrong with this answer. How are you waiting on Kanye and still not done?

I had to wait 7 years for a new Janet album, Rihanna better not try that with me!

Part-time singer and full-time footwear designer Scathing. This going to get dumped out on Thanksgiving or Christmas with high Instagram pictures.

What kills me the most is she can find time to get drunk every other night in the club until 5am and smoke her face off at every Travis Scott show, but she can't finish the album. Now, it's Kanye? LOL. Whatever.
She's been recording since 2013 and judging by another writing camp about a month ago, they're not feeling confident in the material.

So what you're saying is this is business as usual for Rihanna. To be perfectly honest, I don't think she wants an album out because I don't think she wants to promote it. She's never been super into her work unless it was taking a few hours out of her day to get stoned out of her mind and shoot a commercial for some designer none of her stans can afford; but if there's an ounce of truth to that report of what it was like to shadow her, then she really doesn't give a s**t about promo or touring.

I agree with both of these things, but that makes it quite the puzzle then. - If Ri didn't want to put an album out, why offer anything at all? She could have just kept us waiting. - I honestly believe her when she says 'we're waiting on Kanye' (read: Kanye's ego is massive and he put Rihanna on the back burner for his own personal projects). But why is Kanye so important that they have to wait on him - is there some contractual agreement for him to executive produce her next album (and if so why are they still recording music and having writing sessions for her), because she's admitted herself that she has recorded more than enough material. I'm sure they could find ten songs in that bunch that could fit together well enough to make a sellable album. - She could have dropped the albm after FFS or BBHMM and been fine. But they didn't, which makes me think they actually didn't have enough material back then (esp. if it was all supposed to be Kanye produced and/or approved) and that's why nothing happened.

I think BBHMM and AO underperforming (by her standards) scared the hell out of record company and they wanted to start from scratch -> she's not interested because it's not "her" project any more.
I wouldn't be surprised if she gets a better deal from elsewhere soon and R8 (or whatever it's called, probably Invincible or sth lol) will be hailed as a huge comeback.

It's either that the material isn't there or they have a plan to drum all of this up and then surprise-release. I'm thinking it's the former since they probably had plans to release in the midst of FFs/BBHMM/AO before they under performed (or whatever happened). Anything about scheduling or perfectionism isn't it.

I think Rihanna wants to release an album, or at least continue releasing music in some capacity. She just doesn't want the associated pressure that goes along with it. It could be a similar situation to what Britney's doing with random promo singles and an album whenever she feels like it, but then when will Rihanna ever feel like promoting exactly? The thing about Kanye is that there's probably some kind of contractual obligation set in place. I don't know exactly how much control an executive producer gets over a record, but I imagine if its Kanye then he's going to want to hold onto the reigns pretty tight. I sort of understand that much (although I think hiring his highness was a terrible move because the man can't even get his own album out). What I don't understand is that she has all of this material that the label could, at the very least, filter into an EP for the sake of having something out. I don't know if I believe that a lack of material was ever an issue, though. It's been what, almost three years since her last album now? Maybe two, I lost track, but either way she's bound to have recorded a lot of material in that time. I think there's some truth to the fact that the album was pushed back after the lukewarm reception to the songs, especially considering who she began working with after the fact. I wouldn't be surprised if there's some conflicts between Rihanna and her label about the sound, either.

I don't buy the "lack of material" excuse cause she has had 3 years for this album. She released an album every year for 4 straight years (2009, 2010, 2011, 2012), so she is pretty quick at getting material for an album

Yeah, this is the part that is tripping me up. Kanye having some control over the album makes sense, but it conflicts with the Roc Nation and Def Jam having her record a bunch of new music/have writing camps in the past several months, and yet not put anything out after AO flopped. She probably doesn't feel like promoting or touring for real but she could pull a Britney and just do sporadic appearances. So I don't necessarily think that is the holdup. I should clarify that when I said 'didn't have enough material' at the time of FFS/BBHMM I just mean that Rihanna didn't have enough material with Kanye specifically. It's still hard to imagine they hadn't done a lot of work though, so maybe the battle over sound is the answer - the label(s) wanting to scrap most of whatever Ri and Kanye presented to them, with Ri still liking that stuff or at the very least feeling obligated to having Kanye EP the album. And Ri got a top 5 hot 100 hit + a #1 urban airplay hit out of this so she may feel statistically justified in digging her heels in even if the popular consensus seems to be that the reception was lukewarm. It could also be less Rihanna v. label and more Kanye v. label here - because why even entertain the idea of doing these other songs if you're butting heads with the suits that much? This goes along more with the idea that Rihanna just doesn't care, will show up to the studio whenever and record something and then go back to getting high and attending fashion shows, while the label is contractually stuck dealing with Kanye whether they like it or not. Yeah, I'm gonna go with it being one of those two theories just b/c they're the only theories that make complete sense right now. And much agreed on it being a bad idea to hand Kanye the keys to R8.

I love the talk of her finding enough material for an album. We all know this bitch is only looking for 3-4 actual good songs and 7-9 crap Asa album tracks.

Perhaps we're all on the same page but to clarify, I don't mean there is a low quantity of available songs. But obviously the 3 singles they had lined up didn't set the world on fire like she previously has. I don't think they have found those 2-3 smash singles they want.

With One Direction, Justin Bieber and Adele dropping in November, her team kind of screwed themselves. They waited too long. Now, her grabbing a #1 album is going to be extremely difficult. And without any music currently out, the odds are stacked against her. Really curious what the plan is.

Kind of annoying since back in January she said an album was being released in 2015
