CBS announced RiRi is gone from all future telecasts. Of all people, why on earth would Rihanna quibble with CBS' decision? It was clearly the right move in light of the coverage they had planned that evening. I don't understand her rant from either a personal or professional point of view.

(Only 8 games are on CBS this season.) It's not that big of a deal, it's just that she could've handled it far better. It would've been completely inappropriate for CBS to air her song and the comedy skit right before a 30-minute discussion of Ray Rice and domestic violence in NFL. Wrong tone - it was much more hard news than the typical fun, pre-game show. I still don't get where she was coming from on this.

I was going to say....is it really looking like we're not going to have a new Rihanna album for a second year? Where the hell is the single?

There's still definitely time to release a single, but they risk either:
a. Putting an album out before the single really takes off because there's a really small gap between the two releases (this happens: I remember the BEP put out The Time (Dirty Bit) in early November 2010, and then the parent album came out around the end of the same month). What can happen here is that the album will open to lower numbers than it would otherwise because the single hasn't gotten enough exposure yet (and yes, this counts regardless of your celebrity).
b. Releasing the album late into the 4th Quarter (i.e. December). Brave move, but it may result in a lower chart position for the album due to increased competition and they would have to hustle hard through the Holidays to keep it selling as much as they can. Of course, they still have the Grammy boost, but that's only 1-2 weeks normally.

I think it's only coming in 2015 but I agree with Glove Slap: there's still time. Back in 2009, she released "Russian Roulette" only in October and the album, "Rated R", came out 1 month later in November.

Her holiday releases since her superstardom have all peaked in the top 5 . Rated r being her lowest , at 4

It really is weird without new Rihanna music at this time of the year. I was getting my life from 2009 to 2012. I'm sure she'll kill it when she comes back, because the new music is going to be EVERYWHERE!

Wrong tone - it was much more hard news than the typical fun, pre-game show. I still don't get where she was coming from on this. Sorry for the month-late response, but apparently the problem was that CBS had not ever gotten permission to use Run This Town in their clip. (It's not Ri's song, but they were specifically using her part of the song + her name to promote the skit without her ok so that is why the focus is on her instead of Jay-Z.) Roc Nation sent a cease and desist order...then two seconds later the Ray Rice issue went down, and CBS tried to play it off like THEY were the ones who decided to pull the clip, rather than being told from the jump that they couldn't. So Ri was not appreciative of them trying to capitalize off her name both ways. Ri doesn't have the classiest or most articulate of tantrums, to say the least; but strangely enough she usually isn't in the wrong about them either. eta: source (the 'update' paragraph at the end).

I assume it's Michael Bolton. They were seen in the studio together. Yass Rih, coming for that traditional pop smash!

I think Beyoncé pretty much put this theory to rest last year Well, that may be partially true but we cannot forget the surprise release. That helped the album open to bigger numbers than it would have had it been normally released without a successful single.
