Pretty early for this, but...

Bruno Mars to sing at Super Bowl half HOWARD FENDRICH| September 07, 2013
NEW YORK (AP) β Grammy-winner Bruno Mars will sing at halftime of the Super Bowl in February, a person familiar with the NFL's entertainment plans told The Associated Press on Saturday.
The person spoke on condition of anonymity because no announcement had been made. The official word is expected to come at an event in New York's Times Square on Sunday.
The NFL's regular season began Thursday, and the first full slate of games is Sunday.
The Super Bowl will be played Feb. 2 at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, N.J. Halftime shows have drawn more than 100 million television viewers in the United States alone in past years.
Beyonce was the star of this year's Super Bowl halftime show in February in New Orleans, where the Baltimore Ravens beat the San Francisco 49ers 34-31.
Some recent halftime performers at the NFL's championship game were Madonna in 2012, The Black Eyed Peas with Usher and Slash in 2011, The Who in 2010, and Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band in 2009.
Mars is one of pop music's top acts, with several No. 1 hits, including his most recent, "When I Was Your Man."
The 27-year-old singer-songwriter-producer was honored for best male video and choreography for "Treasure" at the MTV Video Music Awards last month.
Mars, who was born Peter Hernandez, released his platinum-selling debut, "Doo-Wops & Hooligans," in 2010, and released his second album, "Unorthodox Jukebox," last year. His hits include "Locked Out of Heaven," ''Just the Way You Are" and "Grenade."

Interesting. I would've thought they'd try to go back to the older bands this year. Cool, though. I think Bruno will do well.
My only concern is that he doesn't seem nearly as accomplished in the industry yet as the other performers.

Wile not headliners, there have been at-the-time relative newbies who have appeared/performed (i.e. N Sync in 2001).
Black Eyed Peas was a headliner, but it had been around longer than Mars. His first album only came out almost three years ago.

Lucky they only get to play 3-5 songs cause that'd be pretty much his whole known catalog to most people

great choice. Bruno is a great singer and performer. his performance this year at the VMA's was the best that night though he got overshadowed by Miley and the NSYNC reunion . also Katy and Gaga had more buzz going in . but in the end Bruno held his own and surprised alot of people . he will i am sure do it again for the Superbowl.

I'm all for this. He has seven top-five hits, three top-five features, plus "Marry You," "Lighters," and now "Gorilla," so it's not like he won't have enough material, and he's proven time and time again that he's a great performer. P!nk would have been a great choice too, but I don't think Bruno's relatively short career should be a hindrance for him.

Bruno is a safer choice than Katy or Gaga and is familiar and popular enough with the current music crowd. Those watching for the music will enjoy it, and will be familiar with all the songs. Those watching for the game likely won't care one way or the other

Great, but we all know the people who watch just for the game will care less since all they want is 80s-90s band reunions and the like

Really? I kind of thought, that for many who tune in for the Super Bowl, the event is about the two teams on the field, not about who is singing at halftime. If that is true, then I don't think 80s and 90s band reunions will generate increased interest.

Yeah but they still want something worth their time when halftime rolls around, and that's what they would prefer. Maybe I should've said "the older demographic" instead. They want 80s and 90s bands not because it would increase interest, but because they for some reason think everyone who watches The Super Bowl are similar and are into that stuff, which is not true.

He's a fabulous performer with a great (if smaller) catalog...this is a no-brainer. Go gurl.

A number of SB viewers are under the influence of alcohol, and are just enjoying the game, for the most part. :) Despite the huge audience, the SB really doesn't have all that bigger an impact than programs that are fully music-oriented, i.e. the VMAs. It has been known to cause a bigger spike in catalog sales, though, which makes sense, given that acts perform older material.

Not sure I agree with that. "Everyone who watches the Super Bowl are similar and into that stuff" - If we were talking about football, I agree. If we are talking about 12 minutes of performances at halftime - I don't. It wasn't until 20 years ago that The Super Bowl included big name music performers at half time. The 'older demographic' grew up with the game being about football, not the extra entertainment that surrounds it

If it is in conjunction with a few performers ala the early 2000s Super Bowls than I am game for it. If it is just Bruno alone. Hell no.

I think it would be a brilliant idea! Bruno always gives great live performances and has enough recognisable hits to fill the show (JTWYA, Grenade, Lazy Song, LOOH, WIWYM, Treasure possibly). He could also incoperate "Nothing On You" or "Billionaire" into the performance as well. I hope this rumour is true!

Great choice actually. At least it's a given that he will be on point, sound great, and put on a great show. I'm not even a huge fan of his of music, but definitely respect his abilities as a performer.

He's a fabulous performer with a great (if smaller) catalog...this is a no-brainer. Go gurl. I am not a big fan of his music, but I do appreciate his live performances. His performances evoke the style that Elvis and Sammy Davis Jr. had back in the day. It is reasonable to expect some collaborations on stage. I could totally see Janelle Monae joining him for one song. There is always the possibility of him recording some new music to perform there along with his earlier hits.

Yeah, I wouldn't be surprised if it resulted in a re-release of his album or a new EP or something.

I am a Bruno fan, not a stan. And as just a fan, I can say that his Moonshine Jungle Tour is the best I've ever seen. And I've been to dozens and dozens of arena shows. Needless to say, I'm excited for this.

He will be amazing. But it's too early in his career for this.
If the VMAs proved anything, it's that JT should be the one.

I'm sure Bruno will put on a fantastic show so I'm all for this choice, even if it is a little too early in his career. If the VMAs proved anything, it's that JT should be the one. Wasn't he and Janet Jackson banned from the Super Bowl halftime show along with MTV after the 2004 fiasco or am I making that up?

The guy has vocal for days and commands the stage extremely well, he in my mind is becoming the best male live performer out in pop music and clearly has a huge following that would draw in numbers for the SB as he is now a household name. Its a bit too soon in his career (agree with Jack) but he has hits for days so he can pull it off.

100% content with this. I was expecting Gaga or Pink to get chosen, but he's proven himself time after time again that he's a grade-A performer. Good for him! I'm excited to see his set.
I still think a Pink halftime show would be incredible, though, so I'm always going to be secretly pushing for that one in the future.

Pink would have been SICK. And I kind of feel like the final declaration to the world of quite how spectacularly talented she is as a live performer.

Pink would own that stage! Bitch would come down from the air with her gymnastics and still sing on point, that is one flawless white girl!

Happy with the choice... just surprised they didn't go with someone "bigger". I'm sure he'll be great, nonetheless.

I would think most of the 'divas' wouldn't want to perform outside in 20 degree or below temperatures. It would be a mess for them.lol
