Released June 20th, 1995 1. "Scream" (duet with Janet Jackson) 4:38 2. "They Don't Care About Us" 4:44 3. "Stranger in Moscow" 5:43 4. "This Time Around" 4:20 5. "Earth Song" 6:46 6. "D.S." 4:50 7. "Money" 4:41 8. "Come Together" 4:02 9. "You Are Not Alone" 5:45 10. "Childhood" (Theme from Free Willy 2) 4:28 11. "Tabloid Junkie" 4:32 12. "2 Bad" 4:49 13. "HIStory" 6:37 14. "Little Susie" 6:13 15. "Smile" 4:56 Possibly his most divisive album, while it is a bit all over the place, it does include some of his strongest tracks in my opinion. It was sold only as a 2 CD set coupled with 15 of his greatest hits on the other disc.

Easily his most personal album and my second favorite album of his after Dangerous. Highlights for me are Scream, They Don't Care About Us, Stranger In Moscow, This Time Around, Earth Song, D.S, Money, You Are Not Alone, Tabloid Junkie and 2Bad.
The promo for this album was insane. He was bloody everywhere when this came out. I'm not sure I've seen an album as hyped as this was. The claim is that this is the best selling double album of all time. 20 million units. Impressive for someone who was rocked with what some thought was a career ending scandal. Sure, his light was hugely diminished but he could still pump out great, quality, personal music like no ones business. The videos from this era are some of his best, too. Sigh. So many great memories.

I bought this when it came out. I love this collection. I was disappointed that some obvious hit singles were not included. They really had to whittle it down to the essentials. All of the 80s to early 90s hits could have easily filled up 2 or 3 CDs in addition to the second disc that had the brand new songs.
But I do really love the second disc. I agree with @dsulkers about it being one of his most personal albums. So much had been made in the media about his seemingly bizarre or erratic behavior at the time in the media, some true, most of it fiction and what really mattered--the music got ignored or placed on the backburner. This album really gave us a window into how he was feeling at that time and what he was going through. I liked or loved pretty much every song. The music videos were extremely well-done, as were the club remix packages for all the singles. David Morales, Frankie Knuckles, and Hani did a great job on all their respective mixes of "Scream", "You Are Not Alone", and "Earth Song."
I liked the companion album Blood On The Dancefloor as well.

Yeah, definitely his most personal album but that makes it inconsistent because he recorded songs written by others and also covers (I like "Come Together" but why did he decide to use it this time?), especially the final two songs on the CD are way out of place for me and I'd rather it was a 13-track album. But he was obsessed with filling the complete CD on Dangerous-HIStory-Invincible.
"This Time Around" should have got a video! My favourite, both song and video remains to be "Earth Song".

I love "Scream," "Stranger In Moscow," and "Earth Song" but the new songs as a whole were a mixed bag.

The remix of "Stranger In Moscow" on Blood on the Dance Floor is probably my favorite MJ track ever. I like the original quite a lot as well, wish it would've performed better stateside.

Gave this a full listen today, it's 19th birthday. Loved every second. Still remember getting my copy the day it came out.

"Stranger In Moscow" is one of his unsung masterpieces. Such a gorgeous song and the video is one of his best. "Earth Song" is one of his few save the world type songs that I like. "TDCAU" and "Scream" are both top notch.
Unfortunately, the rest of the album is such a mixed bag. I hate most of the ballads with a passion, "You Are Not Alone," "Childhood," "Little Susie," "Smile." And his remake of "Come Together" does nothing for me.

Ghosts and 2Bad were everything to me. Scream was iconic, and TDCAU, TTA, and D.S. are the shit.
Was not fond of the other songs, including "Little Susie" (I've only heard it one time on the way to L.A.), and the cheesy songs like "Smile" and YANA I can completely live without.

Not his best album, but I do like Scream, You Are Not Alone, Childhood, and Stranger in Moscow.

I really liked a lot of the "History" album and wish different singles were released at the time or maybe more in the US. I really liked the ballads and downtempos. "Stranger In Moscow" has an eiry sound to it and I always loved "You Are Not Alone". I also loved the title track maybe if it was released during a different era or even this era it could of done well. I also thought "Earth Song" was great. However the rest of the ballads weren't my favorites.
I liked some of the uptempos even though they were a bit aggressive. I loved "2 Bad" and "Tabloid Junkie's" chorus is amazing but the mumbled aggressive vocals of the verses brought it down some for me. "This Time Around" was good and I got used to "Scream". The rest of the uptempos were ok not my favorites but still a good Michael cd.

I didn’t like “You Are Not Alone” in the context of the album, but on its own it’s a strong ballad. That speaks to the randomness of the disc of new songs. “Come Together” was pointless.

I still play this album. It’s one of the best pop records for the ‘95. It grew on me. I enjoy this album when I play it.
