What's going on with Drugs or Jesus? I check mediabase everynight and this song has been losing spins evernight this week. It's down to -100 right now. It's been many moons since Tim hasn't made the top 10. It is sitting at number 12 right now. I now a lot of songs lose their bullet a couple of times on their way up but -100??

Tim has been very consistant with songs that I enjoy until I hear them 1000 times a day. However, I cannot stand this song. Yuck, way over the top for me and I don't think the song is true at all. There is a lot more to life than drugs and not everyone wants to get high.

Tim's never had an official release miss the Billboard top 10 since he broke through with Indian Outlaw. I think this is one of his better songs, but he has had some truly awful material go to #1, so he deserves something like this.
I disagree with your interpretation of the lyrics, but it's not important enough to go on about. Maybe most people hear it the way you do, which is why the song is struggling. It's so novel and even enjoyable seeing him struggle for airplay -- nothing personal against Tim, I just like it when the superstars don't get an automatic pass to the top 5. Now if only Mr. Chesney would get a taste of what TK and TM are battling....

I love this song. I really hope it make it into the Top 10, but who cares if it doesn't. A song doesn't need to be heard by listeners every 2 hours to make an impact. It's not as if the song did poorly, that would be more like missing the Top 20 altogether. You could ask country radio listeners if they knew the song and most likely all would.
Although I do realize it is rare for Tim McGraw to miss the Top 10.

This song is crap. Tim McGraw is definitely not an artist, but on his "Set This Circus Down" at least he knew how to pick songs that weren't pathetic trite plays on emotion that had no depth whatsoever. Ever since then its been nothing but crap from this guy. Why can't he go back to the days of songs with actual stories and real emotion like "Angry All The Time"? I hope this song falls off the face of the earth.

I like this song? I don't know about it on the radio, has it been released? or am I way behind and has it peaked?

yes songs should be hits on quality, not who sings them...I agree completely! I agree with you and the others who are glad to see Tim finally struggling to get to the Top 10. It's annoying when singers like Tim, Kenny, and formally Toby Keith, all get/got Free Passes to the # 1 spot on the country charts. No matter what they released, it was an automatic[/U] Top 5 and, most of the time, it ended up at # 1. Like the other singers I've mentioned, and even others that I haven't named, Tim has had a lot of lousy and even horrible songs get to the top of the charts based solely on his name and his status in the industry. I don't like that at all. Like I said. I too am glad to see Tim not getting an easy pass to # 1 this time. I hope he does not even make the top 10 with this song. That would be a nice change. I wish a few other Automatic Top 5/# 1 singers would get the same treatment.

I hope this song falls off the face of the earth. I agree. Although, I think 90+% of the songs Tim has been doing has been garbage, and often sappy garbage, since he got married to Faith Hill in late 1996. Most, but not all, of the stuff he's done since then has been sappy stuff about love/family/kids. Now, since his dad died, the sappy songs have just gotten more and more unbearable. I consider him to be the male version of Martina McBride, minus the vocal skills that Martina has. Up until now, all of the songs Tim has done have all gone at least into the Top 10. It would be interesting to see what he does if country radio does decide to stop giving him Automatic status.

Let's take a look at his top 10 chances. On Billboard he's still at 14 (his recent run is 16-16-16-16-14-14-14). On the May 7 chart he'll pass Josh Gracin and maybe Sugarland, but he'll be passed by Keith Urban. He can't move higher than #13.
Adkins will replace Sugarland in the top 10, and Dierks Bentley is next in line -- but there are no more spots coming open all that soon. By the time something opens up, George Strait and Rascal Flatts should be ahead of Tim. I don't think he can hold on for another 6 weeks, but if he can, he might get into the top 10.
On R&R it's easier to get a top 10 because of the different recurrent rule. He's at 12 now because Gracin and Sugarland are already recurrent. However, the change in the panel leaves everybody ahead of him except Craig Morgan bulleted, so there will only be 1 vacancy any time soon and Dierks gets that one. I don't see him making the R&R top 10 either, barring a very long run in the teens.
We could debate the merits of the song -- I think it's vastly better than Watch the Wind or Grown Men Don't Cry, but not as good as Angry All the Time or Red Ragtop. It's far from his worst material. I'm no Tim fan, but this one is much easier for me to take than Live Like You Were Annoying or other Tim classics like Maybe We Should Just Sleep On It. (Anybody remember Refried Dreams? Now that was songwriting. And all of these made the top 10.) So I don't know why this one's being singled out for rejection by the public, or by radio, but I'm not complaining. It's about time. In any case, I am happy to focus on the practicalities, and they suggest that he won't go top 10.

I live in the town that this song was written about (Gadsden, Al) and during the girl that wrote it's (Amie Mayo) teenage years this was a good assesment of what kids did then. I do the the song is a little over the top and could be taken the wrong way to a casual listener. I am ready for something like the All I Want album from Tim. The vibe for this album was just really different than the rest.

Most of you know this already, but the song lost its bullet May7th on Mediabase and has been sliding ever since. Today it's at -838. It never reached the Top 10 on both R&R and Billboard.
At one point it had bullets over 600.

I never really liked this song. It is a poor song on a solid album. Probably Tim's best.
'Do You Want Fries With That?' will probably return him back to the #1 spot. It was my choice for the third single and should do really well with radio. Listeners should 'eat it up'. :) .

There has been no official word as to the next single from Tim (I STRONGLY believe that Blank Sheet of Paper should be released... but Curb always misses the boat on great singles)
The singles from LLYWD have been:
LLYWD :) Back When Drugs or Jesus
And you're right, Tim isn't a big video guy... but he did do one for Drugs or Jesus... it's on CMT.com

Allaboutcountry.com has DYWFWT listed as a new release... so add date confirmed yet, but I'll keep watch.

PLEASE TIM!!!!!!!! STOP WITH THE AWFUL MUSIC!!!!!! If it's not a cliche (LLYWD, Fries With That), its emotional sap (Back When, Drugs or Jesus), or both (LLYWD). I'm tired of this being played on the radio. I'm glad DorJ didn't do well. What is he thinking??????
What happened to the days of Angry All The Time, Red Rag Top, Unbroken, and Telluride??? Angry All The Time was a great, original song with meaning and emotions that weren't drenched in crap syrup.
Tim McGraw is starting to rival Lone Star as sappiest and most pathetic attempt at true country music out there. Shania may be pop, dull, lacking any depth, and boring, but AT LEAST she isn't sappy.
Enough is Enough!!!!!!!!! Ok my rant is done. Sorry, I just wish he would start making music with some semblance of meaning.

Don't forget radio started giving garth, faith, leann, lee ann, and last but not least, shania a harder time making the top 10! Now, throw tim in that....notice anything? These are all artists who've crossed over! So who knows, Rascall flatts and keith urban could be next. However, does anyone remember the following: Kenny Rogers, Anne Murray, Dan Seals (only 1 crossover), Dolly, Crystal Gayle....need I go on? All of these artists were HUGE back in the 70s or 80s w/ multiple songs going to #1 at least on AC, if not the Hot 100. Radio didn't shun them then!

These are all artists who've crossed over Sweet Lawd, I wish people would quit saying Tim crossed over. When did he cross over? He offered guest vocals on another artist's song. Not the same thing, my friends. And again... the man couldn't sing pop if he tried. If you listen to the Nelly song, it's actually funny. Tim has a country voice. There's no getting around it. I concede that the choices for singles of this CD are very questionable. I don't like this CD nearly as much as the last 2, but there are definitely better songs on it than Back When or Fries. I thought Blank Sheet of Paper would be a definite radio release. Who will ever know how these decisions get made?

KMCB has a point there about Tim just being a guest on another person's song, BUT...
CMT kept airing the video for the Nelly collaboration. That could have reinforced the perception he had crossed over, or ticked off people who watch CMT for the country content it's supposed to have. The C in CMT doesn't mean Crossover. There wasn't anything country about the song except for Tim's voice, yet it still got airing on CMT for some reason.

I'm gonna get clobber for this but... I agree with Perpetual. He should get the same treatment Shania does. He has a bigger hit on AC now than she does, as does Keith Urban and Martina McBride and Rascal Flatts is showing up too. But the whole crossover thing should be viewed this way: it should reflect positively on the artist/genre because it shows that he/she/they appeal outside of country and it shows that country can be more than 'your Grandpa's music', it kind of shakes off that bias.

CMT definitely makes the strange choice here and there... but the deciphering country fan (as we all are here :) ) should know the difference. I guess my definition of an artist crossing over is one who changes something about a song or their music in general and ships it to AC or pop or whatever. And for the record, I don't necessarily have a problem with it... I just don't at all think of Tim as a crossover artist.

Hehehe... If ALL you knew about the song was seeing the video on CMT, you'd think Nelly was the crossover artist, not Tim. That's assuming you even knew who this Nelly guy is. And you'd wonder why the steel guitar was buried so deep in the mix. Some engineer foul up, for sure. ;)
