Definitely wasn't expecting "TKO" to shoot straight into the countdown at #40. I thought that would be turning up in Breakout Land this week.

And Ryan says there's four debuts...hmmm. I would have guessed three (with departures being Cody Simpson, Pink/Nate Ruess, JT's "Take Back the Night"), so I wonder who's taking the unexpected early trip outta here.

NOTES:

• Well, there's one debut to go. (Hoping that's not just a Seacrest screw-up.) That, no doubt, will be Miley - as I said last week, I'm guessing she'll sail right into the Top 20.
• Going to call the fourth and final dropper now. I guess I could still be wrong, but I'm very much doubting it by now. Their early departure (wasn't expecting them to go clear off from #17, either) ties the Seacrest-era record for highest drop-off, the other three being "Wind it Up" (1/13/07), "I Got it From My Mama" (10/6/07), and "Not Myself Tonight" (6/5/10).
• Since they decided to play Cody as an Extra (Nice one, guys.) I put in the droppers now. I'm waiting for a little longer before calling it on One Direction, but the other two besides Cody I'm fairly confident on.
• Back-to-back white rap acts this week, though with commercials in between.
• Biggest Mover and Biggest Dropper are the same size this week, though just shy of a direct swap.
• Well, they seem to be dusting off some not-heard-in-some-time hits for this week's Optionals. That gets a plus for sure. :)

After slipping a little behind over the course of the past few weeks, the chart catches up, again. Always nice to see that happen. I, too, was expecting "TKO" to Breakout this week, and debut next week. It manages to jump the gun, a little. Miley's big entry seems about right. I expected Britney to enter in a, slightly, higher position (around #25). I guess they can't all be winners.

#17 does seem to be the "magic number" for high drop-offs this era. Clearly, it wasn't the "Best Song Ever", but they tried. I believe the record for highest drop-off for the entirety of AT40 history still belongs to Air Supply's "Even The Nights Are Better" from 1982. It dropped out from #6 (it plummeted 6-42 on the Hot 100, AT40's source at the time, that week).

Is Cody Simpson the new Austin Mahone? As I predicted, last week, "Pretty Brown Eyes" was a "one week wonder". Yet, they still can't seem to let it go.

Somebody likes Gaga, this week. She gets two extras...the first hour optional and the Two For One.

Not entirely. Austin at least got halfway up the countdown--to #19, and then, like 1D this week, fell right off from a top 20 peak. "What About Love" was heard 12 times--6 as an extra and 6 as a chart hit. By contrast, Cody has been heard on the last 5 AT40s, and only one of them was as an actual chart entry.

BTW, Paramore's current hit is "Still Into You."

I'm flabbergasted to see "Best Song Ever" exit this week, especially from its peak of #17. It's the second song in the past 6 or 7 weeks to exit from inside the Top 20. And that's the biggest fall from the Top 40 since "Not Myself Tonight" back in June 2010. I did not expect "Closer" to rise to #26 so quickly. Plus, "Clarity" falls seven spots to kick off the Top 10, and that's like the biggest fall from the #3 position in many years, I suppose.

I thought it would get one last week in the countdown (possibly tying Anna Kendrick for Biggest Dropper, if nothing else), but considering that it free-fell to #69 on the following week's Mediabase sans recurrents, I guess it's not really going to be missed here this week.

Swap "You and I" for "Born This Way" and it would've been a perfect three-fer. :) (Though I love both songs anyway.)

I'm hoping that Armin van Buuren/Trevor Guthrie's "This is What it Feels Like" can get in as a Breakout soon. That's a good song that needs all the help it can get. :(

Definitely an "old school" chart this week. Not uncommon to see an occasional top 20 dropper back in the 80's. Also Zedd's drop within the top 10 is huge in this day and age!

Ryan wanted to know what people thought of Miley's new music, aside from all the publicity about her
lately.
I'm surprised that stations don't have to respect the time constraints anymore. I mean mine usually runs
over by 15 to 20 minutes, even when the show starts on time.
Are we going to miss Anna Kendrick when she's "gone, gone, gone"? As much as I like Rihanna's music
I haven't missed it the past couple of weeks.
