Both of the San Antonio stations report to both Billboard and Mediabase :)

Happy to report I'm still hearing this a couple times on the radio...glad I don't have to resort to the cd. Also happy to see IGAC at double the audience it was just two weeks ago. I know the "add date" for this was in November, but for my own ease of mind I haven't counted the weeks of November and December for this release. I really do still have hope that MCA is going to push this one. George isn't even a month into the final leg of the tour so hopefully IGAC has room to grow and at least crack the top 25 or 20???

I try not to get excited about single day updates, but a couple more days like today and I'll start to become a believer of this going top 30 and maybe top 20. I also received a phone call from my mother today saying "Did you hear that George Strait has a new song out about a car and it's really good". I still believe that if this gets out to everyone it will pick up steam.

Surprise, surprise! The Cumulus block has just added this one. Maybe it can work its way into the top 30 after all.

The city he'll play his farewell show in and has been one of his biggest supporters, their Cumulus station skipped the block. I guess selling out the Texas stadium in a matter of minutes isn't enough to win Dallas over. smh...

It's up against Joe Nichols' "Yeah" in one of my local stations' weekly showdown, so it's at least getting some spins there, too.
Sometimes Cumulus adds in two chunks - I've seen that happen fairly often recently so I would guess that all Cumulus stations will be on board in the next two weeks.
Huzzah!

Ha, that's what I was thinking too. When I saw the Charlie Worsham avatar, I thought it would be more bad news about this song's chances. I still don't believe this will be the huge hit most of us want it to be, but it's now looking good to stick around a bit. :)

Good thing because it barely kept its bullet on the Billboard Airplay chart this week.

I've been following this daily for the past two weeks watching it go up and down from a high of 8.3 I think on Mediabase, mostly with WWKA out of Orlando leading the way. Hopefully with these adds it gives it the shot it needs indeed. Any analysis on why this is just now getting added to Cumulus? Is MCA gearing up to actually push this thing into the final months of George's tour? He's scheduled to perform at the ACM's so he'll either sing this or a medley of songs (but he's already done that previously at the ACM's).

NOT a good update today, loses 33 spins and over a loss of over .200 million in audience. Plus it is without a bullet today at -6. To make things seem a little better and less worse, lot of songs again today had not good updates, hopefully the days ahead bring in better updates.

Yet again we get teased with a HUGE daily gain of over .300 in audience, up to almost 8.9 over 8.5 yesterday (which was also a decent gain as well). Is this actually really going to take off like some of us believed all along? This next week should be the best indication of that if we're going to see it happen.

But today was bad. This is so frustrating. There's still time for a move into the top 30 because so many songs are on the verge of being pulled off the chart. I know this is weird, but what if -- no, stick with me here -- what if MCA pushed just a little, to give it a shot at the top 30? What if?
Maybe radio will resist, maybe MCA has tried -- I can't tell. And I do know how much this song goes against the current trends, but there has to be some room for a different style. Sara Evans is having modest success week after week, and it all adds up. That's what I'm imagining could happen to IGAC.

It pretty much went flat again. If I saw correctly "I Got A Car" got a spike in airplay at the two San Antonio stations, possibly coinciding with George holding his Team Roping Classic event there. I still hear "I Got A Car" daily on the radio in Austin (KVET has IGAC at #17 on its top 50 as an example), but unfortunately both stations playing it are not monitored by Billboard.

I'm going to plead stupidity here.. My only choice for a daily update is Media Base, and the numbers looked fantastic to me for the last 3 days, including today, so I need to know where you're looking that made it "punch in the gut". Please tell me what and where. Thanks

whynotnow, tim is referring to yesterday's daily Mediabase update, in which George Strait lost one spin and 288k audience impressions. Granted, this means little to George's chart run in the long-run, but yesterday was what I like to call a "bad day" for this song.

^^Part of that peculiar stat was the difference in the loss of spins in Orlando @ WWKA combined a hefty gain in spins in San Antonio @ KAJA; there are still six tunes going recurrent @ Mediabase over the next 2 1/2 weeks (and LBT could be the seventh), so even if 'Chainsaw' passes him today or tomorrow, he should be able to reach the top 30 by April 6th, or April 13th at the absolute latest.
This has to be the most infuriating chart run of any of his singles during the past 15-plus years by far.

I do think this will go top 30, but I just can't see it climbing much higher. It's just hard to envision the same radio station playing both "This is How We Roll" and "I Got a Car" in heavy rotation. That just seems like too wide a range of styles, and of course it certainly doesn't help that George's label did that big push to get GIAWGT to #1 and then further killed his momentum with "I Believe." I'm going to predict that this will get to about #24. The highest I can imagine is #16 or 17, but, yes, there will definitely be some big leaps for George and a lot of other folks in the 30's and 40's in the next week or two as a handful of songs drop off at once.

I'm once again cautiously optimistic with this song's chances, though a top 30, maybe top 25 peak is the most likely scenario for "I Got A Car". The upcoming recurrents the next two weeks on Mediabase comes at a good time though, which I pointed out in the "It Ain't The Whiskey" thread (Though I still believe Gary's fate is a bit bleaker than George's).
By the way, I heard this on my way home today on WYRK's noon tunes show (A hour request show from 12-1 P.M, though they still only play the requested currents, and recent reccurents ;)). I had switched to WYRK, after The Highway started to play "Bottoms Up". The times that WYRK has saved me from satellite radio are few and far between to say the least.

I would like to see "I Got A Car" do what Craig Morgan's "Wake Up Lovin' You" is doing is just gradually and slowly moving up the chart. It has taken Craig more than a couple of months just to reach Top 20 on Mediabase. We also have a few songs about to leave ("The Mona Lisa", "Young Love", "See You Tonight") so there's probably room for George and Gary Allen too to move up more now that these 3 songs will be leaving.
Wouldn't it be something for George to add another accomplishment by taking "I Got A Car" 50 weeks to get in the Top 10?

Funny, I though Luke only did covers of artists like Bruno Mars and OneRepublic ;) Nevertheless, nice to hear him play tribute to George!

George's song is at 36 on today's MB -- can it get to the top 30 in 2 weeks? I can see the +6 or even +7 you're writing about, but won't Paslay and EYB pass George by that time? We're still talking about top 30, depressingly enough, because it's still in doubt. I'd take that #24 prediction of Churchchoir's right now and give up on a higher finish, that's how discouraged I am. Or how about a deal where we combine George's audience and spins with Gary Allan's and make them share one chart position?
