I'm not going to give up on this exceptional song even after 20+ weeks on the charts; longtime country powerhouse KSON/San Diego boosted airplay on this tune to 33 spins from 17 last week, so I can only hope that many other country stations will jump on board, even if it's better late than never; it's downright absurd and asinine that it's taken THIS long for this tremendous and universally-loved masterpiece to reach the upper thirties on the chart, which has to be unprecedented for a King George tune with the possible exception of 'GIAWGT', which had an absurd chart run of its own as we all know.
For folks such as myself and lots of the fine folks reading this this chart run serves as yet another indictment of the over-infestation of 'bro-country' product at the expense of never-get-tired-of-'em sublime standouts such as 'Living And Living Well' , which was streaking up the charts enroute to a month-long stay atop the R&R/Mediabase chart a mere 11 years ago this month.
Even if it takes him yet ANOTHER 3-4 weeks just to crack the top 30 (assuming that the EYB will pass him by the end of this week), it's still disgusting that we're having this discussion, isn't it?
If country radio were the rationally-programmed entity that we all want, 'I Got A Car' would have ideally either preceded or succeeded 'When She Says Baby' to #1, if not have spent multiple weeks in the penthouse and denying Mr. Aldean another #1 tune, since both tunes debuted on the Country Aircheck Music Edition Mediabase chart last Nov. 18th!!!!!
Absurd, indeed, and since about the only item I can think of missing King George's Texas-sized warehouse of awards would be winding up with the year's #1 single, this would have easily been a strong competitor in this year's contest, not to mention a richly deserving one IMHO if it were ruling the charts right now, and wound up spending three or more weeks in the penthouse, which would suit me just fine, thank you very much!
Oh well......

This is a legitimately good song with actual country instrumentation, tasteful production, and an actual narrative about a believable human experience. No surprise it's going nowhere.

^IGAC is on the radio as I type and I see it's moved up to #32 today. There's been no word yet on what song George will be performing, but if it's this I think and hope that'll be the kick that this song needs.

One of my friends just tweeted that if Ready Set Roll outpeaks this, he will bother Chase Rice on Twitter until Chase blocks him.

One of my friends just tweeted that if Ready Set Roll outpeaks this, he will bother Chase Rice on Twitter until Chase blocks him. Huh. We have the same friends. ;) I told him to do a whole lot more than annoy Chase. In other news, rumors are swirling that Chase has been picked up by Sony Nashville. Womp.

I wish George would make a video for this song. If any of his songs scream "video" this is it!

I wish George would make a video for this song. If any of his songs scream "video" this is it! I was thinking the same thing today . When I was jogging around dusk, I thought to myself when this song came on my shuffle that boy this would make a killer video. I already have the perfect visual of this song in my mind and normally I would be fine leaving it up to the human imagination, but "I Got A Car" could really use it. We really haven't seen George do one since "Troubadour" and before that "The Seashores Of Old Mexico" (Not counting the live one for "Living For The Night").

^ sabre14 I was pondering the same thing while getting in a run tonight haha. I don't usually listen to country when I go for a run, but once in a while I'll pull out a song or two and just happened to give "I Got A Car" a couple listens. Couldn't help but think why their hasn't been a video for this song (even a live one!). Give us one last video George!

One slight correction regarding the downright flawless 'Living And Living Well'; it was streaking up the charts 12 years ago this week as opposed to 11, and wound up #4 for the year @ R&R/Mediabase behind 'My List', 'Drive (For Daddy Gene)' and 'Good Morning Beautiful' all three of which spent five weeks at #1---imagine that!

Wow, a rare ad for this one from MCA on the front page of tonight's Country Aircheck Weekly. This has been out for quite some time so it'd be a candidate to go recurrent soon if it starts losing airplay, but this ad gives a nice reassurance that MCA wants to at least see this through to the top 30. Hopefully it can go higher than that yet...

This is one song I think a music video would've really helped push up the charts. Come to think of it, it's been a long time since I saw a King George music video that wasn't a live performance.

I swear I read somewhere that George had a bad experience with an early video, and that's why he doesn't do them often. Anyone know the truth behind this?

I remember hearing George say on TV somewhere (Maybe GAC), that his first video for "You Look So Good In Love" was so embarrassing to him. I just watched it now and he does look a bit awkward and the video is poorly done compared to today's standards, but it didn't look that bad to me. I have known for the longest time that he never enjoyed doing music video shoots and that something like Pure Country was a one off kinda thing.

I can't remember his exact words but I think he called it sappy or something to that effect. He's not big on doing videos and I remember reading that he thinks not all songs make good videos and that he would not make a video just for the sake of doing one. I think the way George phrases his songs paint a video all on its own.

Basically, I've been following this scintillating song's rise on the charts via the AllAccess charts simply by going to various stations which have increased airplay on it to the point where tons of stations should be playing it after 20+ weeks on the charts, which for me means means 45+ spins per week.
KTTS/Springfield, MO is now up to 41 spins per week, and has also recently played the extraordinary 'Keep It To Yourself' by Kacey Musgraves, as well as 'Take The Keys' by Leah Turner, my personal choice as the most criminally underplayed country song of the past six months IMHO, neck-and-neck with 'Best Seat In The House' by the LoCash Cowboys, easily the 'I-never-knew-they-had-the-ability-to-record-a-standout-tune-such-as-this' mindblowing song of the year by one of the format's most irreverent acts out there these days.

A little off topic but today I ran into Ace In the Hole Band's Tarry Hale, aka George's bass player. I think he was a little caught off guard I recognized him and knew his name haha. We chatted for a minute but wish I would've asked him if they'll be at the ACM's this Sunday and if so if George is performing solo.

George Strait's team at the label sent out an even shorter "Radio version" of the single with instrumentals cut even more (ends basically after he says the lyrics).

I love the instrumentals at the end. Its really makes the song. That's about as bad as if they cut the instrumental end off of "Amarillo By Morning."

This song would be the perfect one to get the video treatment and it would help the song get more exposure from the younger generation. It would also be a nice send-off as his "final" music video if he really felt no need to do another after this one. All he'd have to do is sing the song in front of a camera somewhere and they can hire actors to do the storyline.

Well not sure what kind of bump if any this will get at radio after George's ACM performance and win, but it's up to #15 today on the iTunes country chart, which is probably the highest its been since its release. What I wouldn't give to see it at #15 on Billboard right now.

iTunes has... Meanwhile Back at Mama's (#6) My Eyes (#12) I Got a Car (#15) River Bank (#24) Golden w/ Stevie Nicks (#34) Even the Stars Fall 4 U...hate the "4" and "U" in the title (#45)
There's others from the show, but this is to serve my point lol.
My point is, of the songs played last night, I'm shocked IGAC is as high as it is. Anymore it's more common to see Lady A, Urban, and Paisley ahead of George on iTunes. It's nice to have him moving ahead of some these others songs, especially since they're new and his has been out for awhile.

Good bump today. Another week of these gains and we can start talking about it having a future (mostly sarcastic as the song hasn't had a good week yet).
