Another week with a surprise debut at #40, this time “Alone Together”. What the hell is it doing coming straight in when it’s #53 on the comparable Mediabase chart – are affiliates really comprising that much of its overall spin total? ??? Having said that, the extra dropper of Icona Pop (that I didn't predict) isn’t really nearly as much of a surprise.

Elsewhere, both “Mirrors” and “Can’t Hold Us” have now spent at many weeks at their current positions as “Roar” has spent on top. On the subject of “Can’t Hold Us”, that’s now the oldest song in the countdown – with “I Love It” falling off, we’re back to an “oldest song” under 30 weeks old. :) That said, “Can’t Hold Us” looks like it’ll go well into the 30s before it’s done. “Sweater Weather”, meanwhile, seems to be doing what “True Love” was doing before – slowly going up, even as its overall Mediabase trajectory doesn’t reflect that. (Of course, that’s no longer true for the latter song, as it sets a new peak for itself this week.)

On another note...there isn’t a planned one coming up, but there’s been only one guest host so far this year – Pitbull, on July 6. Anyone else surprised by that?

I was glad to hear Rihanna "What Now" on the countdown as a breakout. Hopefully she will make it without having to go through that "on the verge" segment next week. Selena continues to rise with "Slow Down" which is good. I will make my prediction and say that after about 2 more weeks, Katy will fall out of the top spot and Lorde will take over.

As to the former, I'd say there's a good chance of it next week. :)

As to the latter, I think Katy could end up with six weeks on here before Lorde takes over, particularly since it's still a question as to whether that will even happen tomorrow on Mediabase.

When introducing the song, Ryan mentioned that she'd recently spent 4 consecutive years in the Top 40 and that this would be her 35th AT40 hit.

I was also surprised at the lack of guest hosting this year. This week, we get back-to-back Jason DeRulo and the top 2 are command songs.
We've had 3 different #2's in the past 3 weeks. The chart seems semi-fresh. It's as if the producers can't decide if they
want a stale or current chart, so it is in between.
A lot of the artists have multiple tracks, and they could have picked someone other than Bruno Mars for the last optional.
Ryan interviewed Zedd who never intended to become a DJ or a producer. He sings in the background, but can't really be heard.
I thought this was curious: Going in order, there were back-to-back M songs, G songs, C songs, G songs, and S songs.
(For instance, Marry Me and Miss Moving On)
