I wonder if this would've trended higher if they lamely tacked on The Worst and released it right around the hype of that record. She seemed hellbent on separating the EP from the album. I wouldn't be surprised if she didn't want "The Worst" on the album because, to her, it didn't "fit," which I guess she has the artistic right and freedom to do. But from a business perspective, it was a stupid move. It could have at least been added as a bonus track for Target or something. It's even more mind-boggling that they chose to release this album in September, when she had much more hype around the beginning of the year and a big song at radio. But again, I think the release date has some correlation with that numbers s**t she believes in. And on top of that, "To Love & Die" went nowhere, which could have been the result of them switching singles, but now "The Pressure" is floundering. Just poor planning all-around. If she doesn't want to be a flash in the pan, I think she's really going to have to lighten up on the "I'm an artiste!" schtick and try new things. As I said in another post, I think the album is great. But it definitely wouldn't hurt her to collaborate with some different producers and co-writes for her next release.

The album is divine! Brave in particular is orgasmic. I was so overwhelmed when I first heard it; it almost brought tears to my eyes. Her voice is angelic and the whole album is so effortless. Wooow!!

Holy shit! LMAO, I wouldn't have pegged Jhene as the throw-shots-on-Twitter type but hey, stars will be stars.

I wish people didn't pit newcomers against each other like that.
I still love Jhene's music but her personality has seemed a little...off for a while. I would not be surprised at all if she felt a way about there being a rival light skint whispery R&B singer/songwriter coming out at the same time as her.

Especially with the overall lack of female talent on R&B radio these days, there's certainly room for both of them (and even many more). As far as I know though, Jhene's tweet is the first sign of an actual "feud" between the two, right? If so, why even start it?

After almost a month, I have grown to REALLY like this album. There are definitely areas to improve but a few of these songs are among her best ever.

In her defense, she did not make the initial comment and one of her fans threw it out there and she kind of just acknowledged it but didn't really go any further than that. As far as I know, Jhené has been in the game longer and stylistically speaking they do have some similarities. I like both artists and I'm hoping that a Brandy-Monica situation will come out of this in the future.

I have yet to listen to any Tinashe song besides 2 On so judging by that song alone, how can the two of them be similar in any way?

No offense but that is an absolutely ridiculous thing to say. "I only know one song by Tinashe so she can't possibly have other songs that are like Jhene's material, because based on the one song I know by her she isn't like Jhene." 2 On is nothing like most of Tinashe's material and the two have a similar vibe in most of their work. Not to mention vocally they share some similarities.
But I highly doubt Tinashe was influenced by Jhene moreso than they are both indicative of the direction that R&B is moving, a style which neither of them really "founded." I doubt Jhene meant any harm by the tweet though.

She's the pepsi artist of the week. Here's their interview with her: The past couple of months have been blissful for songbird Jhené Aiko. After her scintillating feature on Drake’s “From Time,” and collaborations with Kendrick Lamar, Childish Gambino, J. Cole, and Common, her appeal has only grown. When she released her Sail Out EP in November 2013, she was already becoming a household name known for masterful hooks and that angelic voice. She supported Drake’s “Would You Like A Tour,” and still has a few dates left opening for The Weeknd on his ”King of the Fall” tour alongside frequent collaborator ScHoolboy Q. Though she’s been in the industry since she was young, it’s really during the last few years that her music has captivated fans on a larger scale, garnering a slew of comparisons to iconic vocalists from years passed – one being Sade. Her biggest single to date, “The Worst,” tells a story of melancholy love in terms that make it easy for today’s youth to relate. It was an excellent precursor to her debut album, Souled Out, that dropped September 9. Songs like “Lyin’ King,” “Promises,” and “It’s Cool” are heartfelt anecdotes scripted by the songstress. That’s part of the beauty of Aiko’s touch—she maintains an air of approachability that allows her to connect with her listeners in a meaningful way. With appearances at Summer Jam, The BET Awards, on Ellen and Saturday Night Live, it’s safe to say that Aiko’s securing her place in the spotlight. We sat down with Jhené Aiko to talk about the Sade comparisons, origins of Drake’s “From Time” her growing fan base, and which rapper she’d love to do a joint EP with. Get to know her below. We remember watching your video for “The Worst” and noticing you actually warming up your peanut butter and jelly sandwich in the microwave. Is that a real life move? It is. [Laughs] I put it in for like a few seconds and its gets warm and mushy. It’s really good. It takes a peanut butter sandwich to a whole other level.A lot of men have admitted to gravitating towards your music. Does it surprise you so many men are checking for you musically? I don’t find it a surprise. I grew up with my brothers and cousins who are all boys. I just always found it easy to relate not just to guys, but to everyone. I always felt like I had a good balance of masculine and feminine qualities. So whenever I’m writing, I’m trying to make sure that another person could understand too. You’re an incredible singer, but we know you have some rap skills too. Do you ever see yourself doing a full-fledged hip-hop EP? I’m not comfortable enough with my voice to rap. It’s basically like your talking voice. If I do a song that’s more rap-influenced, I still feel like I’m singing. It’s not my full voice. So if I did a full project, it would be more along the lines of melodic rap.You have frequently garnered comparisons to the legendary Sade. How accurate are those comparisons? I would like to think that if Sade and Tupac have a baby…That’s a quotable! That’s who I am in my dream world, but I understand the comparisons to Drake, Frank Ocean, and a lot of people. Vocally they’ll say Amel Larrieux; I used to love her music. Erykah Badu. I welcome all of the comparisons because there are so many that it proves to me if I’m all of these things, I’m just me. Why are you even comparing me if I’m like all of these people? I must be a combination. That makes me just me.Do you think writing your own words gives you an advantage, not having to rely on songwriters for your records? I don’t know. I think that there are pros and cons because when you don’t write your own music, you can put out project after project and it looks like you’re just working. And you are working, don’t get me wrong, but if I were to put out three projects a year writing everything, I might literally be dead.On the flipside, I feel like it puts me at an advantage to the fans that connect with the music because they know that it’s coming from a real place. I feel like that’s why they’re so loyal and they really connect, because they know that at the end of the day I’m just a person like them. With that being said, do you feel there’s a limit to how much of yourself you can give away to your fans musically? I always said I wouldn’t ever tell anyone else’s secrets. If they’re confiding in me, I’m not going to put that in a song. With anything that has to do with me, I’m open to talk about whatever. As a person, I’m kind of like that too. Even if I planned on keeping a secret with myself like, “Oh. Don’t ever tell anybody that about yourself,” I’ll end up saying it anyway. I don’t like feeling like I’m hiding certain things. With Drake’s “From Time” record, you said that it took you a month to write and that you had to switch up what you were writing because you dove into your personal experiences. Can you tell us about that? I wrote from the top of the track to the bottom. It was a really good song, but I felt like I didn’t want him to think it sounded so specific to me, even though I know he would have made it work because he knows how to put songs together. I was just like, “Let me keep him in mind because this is for his album,” So when I went back in, I kept it simple and said something I felt like he would be able to relate to and expand on.If you had to choose between Kendrick, Big Sean, and Drake to do full EP with, who would choose and why? I would have to say Drake because he sings and he raps too. I think we would be able to have more variety.

I have yet to listen to any Tinashe song besides 2 On so judging by that song alone, how can the two of them be similar in any way? ...because, plain and simple, they're not similar based on that one song. Check out her three mixtapes and the rest of her album. But I highly doubt Tinashe was influenced by Jhene moreso than they are both indicative of the direction that R&B is moving, a style which neither of them really "founded." Definitely.

She vocally sounded great but I don't think the song translates well live...and certainly not acoustic.
