Here's the article from Billboard's Chart Beat man, Fred Bronson.
'BABY' STAYS: Sugarland's debut single, "Baby Girl" (Mercury), holds at No. 15 in its 46th week on Billboard's Hot Country Songs chart. That is the longest run for any title since the chart has been compiled using monitored airplay data.
The previous record of 45 weeks was held by two songs: "Beautiful Mess" by Diamond Rio and "Let's Make Love" by Tim McGraw and Faith Hill. The former reached its 45th week in the Feb. 15, 2003 issue of Billboard and the latter saw its 45th frame in the Nov. 4, 2000 edition.
Sugarland has two songs in the top 15 this week. The follow-up to "Baby Girl," "Something More," moves 14-10, giving the Atlanta-based trio its second top 10 hit out of two.

46 weeks seems a bit long to play a single.
Anyway, it's quite the accomplishment for a debut single.

Ya, it is quite a long time, but heck, it could stay on there for another 46 wks for all I care. I absolutely LOVE them.

I sent this to Fred Bronson after I saw his column on Friday.
Fred, what you wrote in your chart beat bonus on 5/27/05 about "Baby Girl" being the longest charting country song since the change in 1991 was incorrect due to a change in the chart on 1/8/2001. On that chart, it switched from 75 to 60 positions. As a result, there were quite a few singles that had from 1-14 weeks removed from the "weeks on" column. Among these was Gary Allan's "Right Where I Need to Be", which lost 8 weeks. Technically, it charted for a total of 48 weeks. Tim McGraw's "My Next 30 Years" lost 14 weeks, and technically dropped off after 46 weeks. Now, if the same 20/20 rule for recurrents were in effect now, as they were then, we could see Sugarland stay and tie the record or break it.
