The Christina-bashing that's going on in Pop threads today is going to stop... NOW.With all due respect this post seems a bit off and certainly lacks the neutrality a staff member should have. I know she's one of your favorite artists but posts that mindlessly claim she's "saving careers" are clearly intended to push more buttons than chart critique that happens to be less than favorable to an artist. When people were saying R. Kelly should have been replaced it seemed okay...

Thank you David and clearly the saving careers expression is sarcastic, anyone who is saying that is just saying it for fun not meaning it literally. (Just like the pitbull/hitbull saving careers when his stans took it so serious while we were just having fun mentioning it ) plz don't take every single post seriously !!!

Depressing songs have been hits before, people definitely connect with that type of material if it is presented in the right way.
My personal qualm with this is that I jus find it really boring, but that's more of a personal taste thing. I thought the same with Stay and WIWYM last year.

I put this in the category of poignant/powerful ballads, along with Someone like you and few others. Stay and When I was your man didn't cross the line and remained in the boring area.

Would love to see this go to #1! It'll get close but won't (I predict it'll peak somewhere in the upper top 5 and will have a good chart run but won't get #1 very simply due to Dark Horse). Pop radio (so far) has clearly been lukewarm to this. Only getting occasional very good updates but just not exploding like many songs above it and def. below it. Radio and streaming and fine, but its def. the consistent and 'strong enough' sales that's keeping this stay strong in the top 5.

How dare you put this in the same bucket as someone like you, possibly the most powerful of all powerballads that ever was. Compared to sly this is a piece turd after I've consumed a dos locos taco.

This song is so whiny and old, when will it go away?
What blows my mind is something like this blows up, but a sappy song like "Fix You", never blew up for Coldplay. I guess it's just the day in age in today's radio.
On another note, the new Foster the People came on, I would rather hear this song 100 times more than hearing that crappy song just once.

I don't hear anything whiny in this song. Yeah it's not about fireworks, glass raising, roaring lions, nonstop partying, etc, it's about letting someone go and having a secret hope that it won't happen. It's not the typical pop song message and it's a bit depressing/sad, but that's life... And the way it's sung and musicalized fit the lyrics perfectly. It's true many other good ballads have failed to be successful in the pop charts (Fix You among others). To me, I'm just happy that at least one good serious song is receiving attention

'Happy' has passed the duet/main version of this on iTunes. I think this may have peaked w/ sales. I dont see it suddenly 'dropping' but clearly Happy (w/ minimal airplay) is going to surpass this overall w/in the next month.

The 2nd version is still in the Top 50 on iTunes. This still has another 1 or 2 million to go.

With the help of an ad this has been featured on, it's really taken off in Australia now - it rockets 41 spots to #9 this week (run: 90-95-69-47-52-54-45-50-9). As Christina is given co-lead credit on this, it's her first non-feature top 10 hit since "Candyman", which hit #2 in May 2007 (and spent 17 weeks in the top 10!).

The main version is down to #6 on iTunes and looks like it's starting to fall more consistently. As I predicted last week, 'Happy' and 'Talk Dirty' were going to be the songs that would prob. pass it and they did. Looking like the best shot for a higher peak on the Hot 100 will be in the next few weeks. By then, clearly Happy should have enough points w/ the way sales are going (again will minimal airplay) but is now starting to erupt on the radio.

This got farther than a lot expected and it has great sales so it was a BIG success. Hopefully they start promo again since the album is being released.
