HG..thats my POINT. You could argue at any angle about how much success she brings to a feature but saying she adds nothing would be taking it too far. In my opinion I feel like the songs she's released on her own just isn't songs people want to hear. "Your Body", while commercial, is the same old SEXED UP X-Tina that people seemed to be tired of. She doesn't even really promote her own singles for f**ks sake! It's a crime in humanity that "Just A Fool" sold over 500k, received great HAC airplay but never got a video. Hopefully she's able to turn things around for herself for her solo career with "We Remain" by promoting the hell out of it.

It might be a good thing for her if she just releases a new album full of great ballads or just a compilation of her old ballads plus 3 or 4 more new songs on it.

"Christina is number one"..."Go Christina"...she's even less of an element in this than she was in Jagger, can we stop heaping credit on her. It's a beautiful song, and she provides some beautiful BVs, and she got them their platform on The Voice, but that's the extent of it. Background vocals? No. She lends a full harmony line throughout the (almost) whole song, that's just as present as the lead vocal. It's a duet. And while it may not be to her complete credit, you cannot deny she adds a fullness and a depth to the song that isn't on the original.

"Just a Fool" just made the top 30 at Hot AC, which i decent, but not necessarily "great." One could argue that Blake Shelton brought in some of the sales, too.
Not sure how much she can turn things around- not saying it's impossible, but, with some acts, after a certain point, the interest just lags and doesn't quite recover.

The same could be said, though, in the opposite direction, JB- those who try to say a track does well because she's featured on it. Her presence may be here nor there on them; I mean, why would her own releases not do well, but the ones she's featured on do? Unless someone polls those who buy the featuring tracks, no way of knowing. Pretty early to tell how this particular track will fare, anyhow, outside of a performance-boosted showing. Choice of lead singles perhaps? Quite a few posters have said that people aren't here for Sexytina I mean, how much of MLJ's success was due to Xtina is somewhat debatable since Maroon 5 was a well-known (albeit struggling, at the time) band. A Great Big World, on the other hand...

Yea you sound madd but that's not surprising coming from you. What on earth does that mean? Who needs actual discussion when they can spout dismissive hysteria I guess.

The song was perfect before. Christina wasn't needed.

I think the song is better with her. Her vocals are downright haunting and beautiful and really work well with A Great Big World's vocals and song style. Quite a beautiful result and shows just how effective Christina can be and how talented AGBW is. I wonder if they would consider collaborating again-both sides seem to have had a great experience working together and Christina does like working with relative unknowns for cds sometimes (Like SIA at the time for Bionic) so that could be great for both of them.

They both have shared an interest to evolve their relationship with each other. We still have the video shoot later this month when Christina is available.

As much as I love this song, if this was performed on The Voice without her, it still would've shot straight to the Top 5 on iTunes. People like the SONG, not because Christina is featured on it. Same with "Moves Like Jagger." It would've been a hit regardless of whether she was on it or not.

It's funny how she can only get a hit as a featured artist, and yet her stans will still stick to the delusion that she's the main sell of the song. Lol.

First, will they had that performance on The voice if she wasn't going to sing with them? Because they are not exactly big names, This is new year is nice, but it wasn't a hit even after being performed on Glee. I agree that the song is good with or without Christina, but i'm not so sure it would be number one on itunes without her

While we've made comparisons to "Moves Like Jagger" given the Christina feature there too, I think it's also worth comparing to "Counting Stars," "Blurred Lines," and even "Let Her Go," all of which received significant boosts from being performed on the show (either by the main artist or a contestant).

Let's just agree that the song IS good, Christina IS featured, and that it's doing well right now? :) Why argue hypotheticals?

Exactly. It's not like Christina MAKES this song. It was already a great song originally, and its performance on The Voice just boosted its sales. The original also got up to #43 on iTunes yesterday. I hope this huge boost in sales can turn this song into a hit. Maybe it can be the "Stay" of 2014.

Originally the song was featured on So You Think You Can Dance and there was quite a buzz about it after that. That's what gave them the boost in the first place and how Christina heard about them. People were already praising the song and it was on the low end on itunes because of that. But Christina and the Voice platform was what gave it the extra push. I'm wondering if this is getting any radio play yet.

On this song, I would give Christina a lot of credit for making it a hit on iTunes. MLJ had M5, it could have been a hit without her. But, this song features an unpopular band. Their song most likely would have received very little attention without Christina. These smaller acts often record beautiful songs that never receive any attention. Love her or hate her, she's in a position of power right now. If she's featured, she can get them on a very popular show. Christina is also acting much more friendly on the show this season, making people like her more. Her current popularity on the show, plus the exposure she gave them is why this song is getting a significant spotlight. Without her, the song most likely wouldn't have been noticed.
As for the actual song, everyone knows its their song. But, it does showcase Christina's vocals beautifully. This song is only going to help Christina.

It probably won't go back to #1 until either another performance happens or radio starts jumping on this. Right now it doesn't have anything to help keep its sales at #1. All we can do is be hopeful that it stays in the Top 10.

This was yesterday in 190 with 13 spins. Hopefully it will increase at good rythm, but probably it will hit top 50 on hot AC first. This is new year did better in that format than in pop

REVIEW: A Great Big World "Say Something" Featuring Christina Aguilera Song Review — 5 out of 5 stars Every year a song comes along that defines a moment so beautifully and brutally that you can't turn away. It elicits the purest, most powerful, and passionate gut reaction possible, and it resounds around the world with seismic impact. Recently, you can think of numbers like "Rolling in the Deep" or "Somebody That I Used to Know". They're perfect for that time, but they also transcend and become timeless. Now, A Great Big World's "Say Something" featuring Christina Aguilera is that song for 2013. The slow, striking piano practically pulls on heart strings as Ian Axel and Chad Vaccarino paint a portrait of breaking up that's Oscar-worthy. There's a cinematic heft to the track that makes it utterly vivid and vibrant. Christina Aguilera's performance remains one of her best ever, fortifying the hook and harmony masterfully. You'll hear it once, and you'll never forget it. Link
