Jo Dee's next single from her excellent album DELICIOUS SURPRISE is the title cut. Here's a link from AllAbout Country: www.allaboutcountry.com/media/music/ram/jodeemessinadelicious.ramI like it. Glad they went with an uptempo release as opposed to a ballad as the 2nd single because IMO the ballads are extremely weak on this album. I think most of the uptempo numbers can be hits, but doubt that any of the slower songs can reach the Top 15. This one should reach the Top 10. I know there is already a thread running on the album, but I figured it would be good to have one on the new single as well....

Like I have said on another MB, true artists can sing BOTH uptemp AND ballads. Aside from Bring on the Rain, JoDee's voice doesn't fit most ballads.

"You Were Just Here" and "It Gets Better" would both reach top 10 status. IMO I like the choice for the second single though! They better not miss a big hit by overlooking "Too Late To Worry"!

I love this choice for the summer, but the clear follow-up to this is "You Were Just Here". No other JDM song has just vocal power and it is a beautiful reality about losing loved ones in a second, a song preaching how short life is...I love that song!! And the whole album!! And "Delicous Suprise"!!

I think for the ballad choice it should be It Gets Better. Amazing lyrics and melody... plus Jo Dee wrote it herself... so inspiring.

I would've gone with "Too Late To Worry", but I do like this song. But it shouldn't be that surprising that this is getting released now - whenever Jo Dee's had a title track it's always been the second single.

Did you even give "You Were Just Here" or "It Gets Better" are a fair lesson?? I personally believe that Jo Dee's vocals on "You Were Just Here" evoke such strong emotions that most artists wish they could be capable of doing, The unreleased track "Heaven Was Needing A Hero" is also an amazing ballad that is probably Jo Dee's best song to date (released and unreleased) Jo Dee CAN pull off the ballads very well...it's radio that kinda pigeon-holed her into the "uptempo, self-empowering" artist in the country genre.

So what your saying is "Because You Love Me" is a fluke, right? Im not sure if you could classify "Stand Beside Me" as a ballad or not, but I have always viewed it that way. Both of these are excellent songs!

Of course I did. I had the whole cd before it was even released because I was anxious to hear it. Needless to say I wasn't pleased with what I heard. I don't believe it has anything to do with radio. Like I said previously, I don't think she has the voice to pull off most ballads......that comment has NOTHING to do with radio.

I think 'Too Late To Worry' will be a big hit. Hopefully it'll be released next.
I'm with Steelo in that I think her ballads are usually dull...but I don't think it's a problem with her voice. I think she has an excellent voice on both uptempo numbers and ballads.
The only slower-paced one I like on the new disc is 'Where Were You'...and that really isn't a ballad...

They need to release You Were Just Here. When that came on I just lost it. I lost one of my closest friends recently. He was only 19. He was the same age as me so it's pretty scary.

Though EVERY SINGLE SONG on the CD could do well at the radio, I think 'You Were Just Here' is stunning and would cement her reputation as an amazing vocalist and not just someone with a good voice who picks fun songs. This song is by far her best ballad and maybe her best song ever in my opinion. Every time I hear it, I am simply in awe.

When she performed 'It Gets Better' on 'After Midnite With Blair Garner' the Thursday before the CD came out, I immediately tabbed it as potentially one of the best singles of 2005.
If I have to wait until next year (or the end of this year) for it to become a single, then so be it.
But that song is exceptional, and the CD is exceptional as well.

If she does release "Too Late To Worry", "You Were Just Here", and "It Gets Better" she WILL be the biggest female in country music! All of these songs SHOULD be #1's. I am doubtful about "Delicious Surprise" though. I love the song, just not sure how radio will accept it.

'Delicious Surprise' has a much better shot at being successful than 'It Gets Better'...
It Gets Better is over 4 1/2 minutes long and there really isn't anything they could edit out to make a radio-edit. 4 1/2 minutes is long for a radio single.
And, although most of you think it is great, it's not always the best songs that make it to #1. It's the ones that are promoted the best and the ones that radio accepts the most.
I doubt it or 'You Were Just Here' would do any better than 'I Wish'.
I think 'Too Late To Worry', 'Not Goin' Down', and 'Someone Else's Life' can all be big hits. I just think most of you will be very disappointed if they go with a ballad next or EVER because I doubt any of them would do well. They just don't sound radio-friendly to me.
JMHO.
Keep in mind I am NOT bashing Jo Dee...just stating I think there are MUCH better options of singles than any of the ballads.

Actually, there have been SO many 4:00+ singles in the past several years that I don't think the length of the single really means anything.
Joe Nichols 'What's A Guy Gotta Do?' is easily the shortest single in recent memory that became a smash.

Good point...I really hadn't realized how many singles have actually been 4+ minutes and made the Top 10, but looking/thinking back...you're right.
'Strawberry Wine' and 'Live Like You Were Dying' jump out right away...

Jo Dee's on a roll...
Her R&R bullet today is 284, her biggest daily bullet so far. Her R&R audience bullet is 2.155. She had the 2nd highest number of adds on R&R (13).
She had the most adds on Billboard this week, by far (23 stations) and moved up 5 to #32.

Glad to see it. She has been #1 added at R&R now for 3 weeks I believe. Good to see this one succeed. I think this will be another huge hit for her, #1 would be great but I would say Top 10 peak, somewhere #7- #10.

I am a big fan of Jo Dee, especially her first album but this single is really boring..She is stuck in these feel good about yourself singles that are really getting old. She needs to go back to basics in my opinion. Her first album had her best singles, Heads Carolina, Not in Kansas Anymore, Never Seen Julie Cry (which flopped). She is really different but seems to be falling into a certain sound that does not suit her. Of course thats just my opinion.

I do think she sings too many of those 'things are alright, find a positive spin on life' songs...and they do get old.
But I like this one and I also see it landing somewhere between #7 and #10. :) .

That's been my pt all along. Besides, like I've said b4...you can NEVER do a Beth Hart song unless you are Beth Hart.
People jump on the bandwagon about Martina singing the same kinds of songs, but no...not JoDee.

I loved the lyrics to MGADB but I hated the melody.
For DS, I love the melody (especially the infectious chorus) but I hate the lyrics.
And as for Jo Dee's performance of ballads vs up-tempo tunes, I just think she has a more difficult time with songs that approach the upper reaches of her range.
I was a big fan of I'm Alright (the cd) and Lesson In Leavin' is one of my favorite country songs of all time; however, subsequent songs/albums have sounded too much alike IMO.

If you will check the Martina thread about god's Will you will see that I bashed Martina for this as well.
